Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the Organising Committee, I would like to welcome the British Society of Gastrointestinal

Radiology to Birmingham - this is the fi rst time the annual meeting has been held in the City. Due to the

growth of the Society we have had to move from the more intimate environment of a hotel to a conference

centre. Hopefully the spirit of the Society will be preserved in this transition with

the Dinner and Reception off ering plenty of opportunity to catch up and

exchange ideas with colleagues and friends from around the country.

I am grateful for the continued support of our sponsors, as they help to keep

costs at a manageable level.

It is my pleasure to invite Professor Clive Kay to give this year’s Richard Farrow

Memorial Lecture. I am sure that most of you will be aware of Clive’s involvement

with BSGAR, having been President from 2008-10. Over the years, Clive has

progressively increased his managerial role, fi rst becoming Medical Director

in 2006 and ultimately Chief Executive of Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 2014, one

of the few clinicians to take on a CEO position nationally, and it is from that perspective that he will give his

lecture.

There have been many national reports, audits and guidelines relating to GI issues that have either been

reported in 2015 or are about to be published in 2016. Naturally there is a radiological dimension to these

and some have been chosen as themes for the meeting. Hopefully there is something of interest in the program

for everyone. In accordance with feedback from those that attended last years meeting, the political session

has been replaced and the time devoted to a clinical topic. Whilst feedback is often contradictory, any further

suggestions for modifi cations to the program, future venues and topics for sessions are gratefully received.

I would like to thank all the speakers for their time and eff ort in preparing and delivering their lectures and

I am grateful to Ian Zealley for organising the small bowel MRI workshops. Finally I would like to thank all the

members of the BSGAR committee for their hard work and support during my tenure as President.

I hope the 18th annual meeting is both educational and enjoyable to all.

Ashley Guthrie
