Good evening to the august gathering,

world.” Educating a girl means, educating a family, educating a society, educating a nation. When a

single seed can bring so many fruits, why not empower them so that they contribute valuable inputs

for improvement on home and social front. Let this seed to grow and enhance the beauty of the

nation. SKPC facilitates learning and knowledge environment which constructs the students‟ future

forever and improves their status of mind, body and spirit and paves way to success as well as

personal growth.

ACADEMIC TESTIMONY

In the University Examination April 2016 our students showed their academic excellence by

securing a pass percentage of 87. The total number of students eligible to receive degree is 449.

Appreciation and recognition are the major factors that motivate and inspires the students

to work harder and aim higher. Anticipating that they will be recognized is a strong motivation for a

student to „go the extra mile‟. Our Management, SKPD & Charities, various charities and

UNION ACTIVITES

Education gives many purposes to the life such as enhancement of the personal advancement,

increase social status, social health, economic progress, set goals of life, makes one aware towards

many social issues. The college council teaches the purpose of education towards society

development.

The Nakshatra Students‟ Council functions under the guidance of the Principal, Dr. T.

Mohanashree as the President, Ms. I. M. Sheeba Alorcious, Head, Department of English as Vice

President [Staff representative], Ms. V. Meena, Head, Department of Interior Design and Décor as

Secretary [Staff Representative] from Shift I and Ms. S. Jayalakshmi, Asst. Prof., Department of

English, from Shift II supported by 45 Student Office Bearers. The activities of the Nakshatra

students‟ Council are:

The Nakshatra Students‟ Council with its affiliated associations was inaugurated by Pulavar

Ramalingam and Talent Hunt was conducted as an ice break for the I Year.

A Mega Inter School fest “SIRPI” was organized wherein various competitions for students

like Essay Writing, Oratorical, Drawing, Solo Singing, and Wealth out of Waste and Cookery

Competition for the school teachers were conducted. Schools responded remarkably for the

competitions and the Overall Trophy was bagged by Unity Public School, Adyar, Chennai.

Students and Staff participated in Navarathi Parvettai organized by SKPD and charities.

Pongal the harvest festival is celebrated to fill the gap between the rural and urban people. To

teach the significance of the festival the college atmosphere and ambience is transformed into

a typical Indian Village Pongal Thiruvizhla. Programmeme was telecasted in Puthiya

Thalaimurai, Vasanth TV, Raj TV, Sakshi TV, ETV and Vaanavil Channel. On the same day

Nakshatra Students‟ Council honored their supporters, well-wishers and invited mentally

challenged people and gifted them provisions and garments.

Apart from the above said celebrations, the Nakshatra Students‟ Council also organized

Music Day, ESHA, Independence Day, Republic day ect.,

STAFF ACHIEVIMENTS

A true teacher understands the importance of developing oneself maintains high standard of

personal and professional integrity and builds a holistic array of skills for teaching and thinking.

Our proficient professors develop their competence, continue to build on them by clearing

qualifying Exams, presenting and publishing research paper, attending workshop, seminars etc.

Dr. K. Lakshmi, Head, Dept. of Tamil, Nalli Kuppuswamy Chetty awarded title in “Pavalar

Thilagam” at MOP College.

Dr. P. Barani Kumari, Asst. Prof., Dept. of Commerce, has been honoured for her Doctorate

in Commerce by Anna Nagar Arya Vysha Sangam.

Dr. K. Malathi, Librarian, was recognized by The Madras Library Association for significant

contribution rendered in Library and information field.

INTERNAL QUALITY ASSURANCE CELL

To improvise the policy system and fulfill the Vision & Mission of the Institution, the IQAC

organized the following programme to enrich the teaching fraternity.

The IQAC of SKPC organized a symposium on „Role of Higher Education in Enhancing

Career Readiness‟ wherein all the staff members of SKPC and 30 teaching faculties from

various city colleges had participated.

15 SKPC teaching staff and 14 teaching staff from other city colleges participated in a FDP-

Faculty Development Programme on “Stress Management” conducted in collaboration with

ICTAcademy.

The IQAC will be organizing a workshop on March 4th

2017 on the topic “The Art of Writing

Winnable Project Proposal for funding”.

ORIENTATION, WORKSHOP AND GUEST LECTURE

The Department of Sociology conducted an orientation programme on „Entrepreneurship

Development‟ in collaboration with CSIM.

The Department of English and other Languages together organized a workshop on „How to

be an Active Reporter‟.

The Department of Hindi conducted a workshop on „Importance of Hindi in Banking Sector‟

The Department of Corporate Secretaryship organized a Workshop on “Personality

Development”, Orientation Programmeme on “Introduction to Professional Courses like, CA,

ICWA, CS” and a Special Lecture on “How to empower themselves while in college”

The Department of Management Studies conducted Entrepreneurial Development

Programmeme in association with ICT Academy and SIDBI and a workshop on „Industry

Exposure on Marketing Research‟

The Department of Computer Science &Computer Application organized a Power Seminar

on „Big Data and Business intelligence‟ and a workshop on „Java Applications in Industry,

Web Development using HTML, CSS, Employment Opportunities and Scholarship for

Higher Studies‟.

The Department of Psychology conducted a workshop on „Clinical Psychology‟ and

„Developmental Stages‟ and also an exhibition for the school students on the occasion of

Sirpi.

The counseling cell, a part of the department of psychology extended their service by

providing training for 1st yr students of the entire department on the theme “Life Skill

Training” for this academic year.

The Department of Commerce and Corporate Secereatryship arranged a SEBI visit for III

year Students wherein Mr. Vijyan Asst. General Manager SEBI created awareness on

Investment Portfolios.

The Department of Commerce conducted a workshop on " Students Enhancement in

Education"

The Department of Psychology organized a consultancy project for vendors and parents on

the theme “Psychological Intervention for Alcoholics” and also for school teachers on the

theme „Compassion and Non-Violence through Psychological Principles‟.

STUDENTS ACHIEVEMENTS

Competitions play a role in motivating students to perform and excel, offers a chance for

participants to gain substantial experience, show case skills, analyze and evaluate outcomes and

uncover personal aptitude. The SKPC encourages the students to adopt innovative techniques and

develop their ideas and skill and unfurl them at inter collegiate level.

PAPER PRESENTATION BY STUDENTS

Ms. Tersa F and Ms. Rajyashree A of III B.Sc.,(Psy) presented a paper on “Identify formation

among adolescent students” and “ Impact of positive emotions and well being on identity

formation” in the International Conference at Anugrah institute of social sciences, Dindigul.

Ms. Teresa .F of III B.Sc.,(Psy) won 1st place in “Paper Presentation” at Rajiv Gandhi

National Institute of Youth Department.

Ms. P. Roshni and Ms. A.S. Nirmala of III B.COM “A” presented a paper titled “Viral

Marketing is Dynamic” in FINO FEST 2016 conducted at DRBCC Hindu College.

Ms. R.Gayathri and Ms. S.V. Mohana Sujana of II M.COM presented a paper titled “Ancient

India Vs. Smart India” in the Inter-Collegiate Seminar conducted at GSS JAIN COLLEGE.

Ms. Revathy P of I M.A.,(HRM) won 2nd

place in Case Study and Ms. Mathuri M, Ms.

Praveena A of I M.A.,(HRM) won 2nd

place in Power Point Presentation at SSS Jain College.

Ms. K. Varundhara, Ms. M. Bhargavilatha and Ms. A.M. Sandhya Rani of III B.Sc.,(CS), Ms.

D. Sravani of I B.Sc.,(H.Sc.,-ID&D) and Ms. D. Bhavya of II B.A.,(Soc) published articles in

Yuva Online Journal.

Ms. B.V. Divyalakshmi of II B.Com., (CS) presented paper on „Impact of demonetization on

Trading‟ at Hindu College and bagged 1st place.

Ms. S. Kameshwari and Ms. J.Subashree of II M.Sc.,(IT) presented a paper in a National

Seminar on „Neural Networks‟ at KCS Kasi Nadar College of Arts & Science.

Ms. Divya Piplwa and Ms. Juhi. M of II B.B.A., presented a paper on „Viral Marketing‟ and

won 1st place at DRBCC Hindu College.

PRIZES ACHIEVED IN INTERCOLLEGIATE COMPETITIONS

Ms. Aarthy R.J. and Ms. Logeswari M.H, of II and III B.Sc.,(Psy) won the Youth Achiever

Award at IWJWA.

‘KALAALAYA’ FINE ARTS ASSOCIATION

“Kalaalaya Fine Arts Association” under the headship of Ms. K. Ganga, Asst. Prof., Dept. of

Tamil reinforce the extra-curricular talents of the students as these activities foster a sense of

commitment, reduces selfish behavior, teaches time management and prioritizing, involves in diverse

interests, raises self esteem, builds solid relationship skills and finally students become more

marketable in the workplace.

The various cultural programmemes conducted are:

“Snigda”- 2016 Inter departmental Cultural show for “Fresher‟s” and “Esha”-2016 were

conducted to exhibit the concealed talents in students. A rolling trophy was introduced this

year to enhance the competitive spirit.

Students of Mathematics department bagged 2nd

place in “Hello FM” -2016 competition and

won a cash prize of Rs 15000/- .

“Navarathri” was celebrated with joy and fervor. Students performed various traditional

dance, and classical songs at Sri Kanyaka Parameswari Temple.

CLUB REPORTS

According to Jason Marsh “when we give to others, we don‟t only make them feel closer to

us: we also feel closer to them” Being generous and kind encourages one to perceive others in a

positive light. To foster a sense of community, a feeling of interconnectedness among girls, they are

engaged in various clubs.

NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (N.S.S)

Under the leadership of Ms. D. Vijayalakshmi, Asst. Prof., Department of Tamil & Ms. K .Aysha

Banu, Asst. Prof., Dept. of Home Science - Interior Design & Décor, the club conducted many

service programmes which are as follows:

Rendered service to Jeeyar Education Trust (JET), GMR, „TTD‟, “Kuchalambal Service”

and on “Vaikundha Yegadesi” at Thirumala Thirupathi.

Jointly with Shankara Nethralaya conducted an eye camp for students and participated in an

eye donation rally.

On the eve of Independence day celebration, YRC along with the Rotract and Karuna club

KARUNA CLUB REPORT

Karuna club under the directions of Ms. L. Madhumitha, Asst. Prof., Dept. of Commerce and Ms.

Jayalakshmi, Asst. Prof., Dept. of Mathematics conducted the following activities:

As part of Independence Day celebration face painting competition was conducted.

To emphasize the importance of trees, „VANA MAHOTSAV DAY‟ was celebrated.

A drawing competition on ANIMAL WELFARE, „Fireless-Wireless‟ Cooking Competition

Pot Painting Competition based on the theme of „Environment Protection‟ were conducted.

Karuna club and the Eco club joined hands with Exnora team and launched projects named

„Re-greening Chennai 2017‟ and „Green Campus‟. Justice. P. Jyothimani, Judicial Member,

National Green Tribunal, Southern Zone graced the occasion.

To promote awareness on the impact of the pets Karuna club visited Blue Cross at Velachery.

Eco club under the tutelage of Ms. Bhanu, Head, Dept. of Sociology conducted couple of

activities:

Jointly with Karuna club distributed 500 Saplings to the Public on the New Year Day of 2017

in association with The Exnora Greater Chennai.

Conducted Essay writing competition on the theme “Environment in the hands of youngsters”

and also “Wealth out of waste”.

CITIZENS CONSUMER CLUB (CCC)

The Citizens Consumer Club under the guideship of Ms. M. Jayanthi , Asst. Professor, Dept.

of Corporate Secretaryship and Ms. R. Geetha, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Commerce organized

following activities:

Face painting on „Effects of hybrid vegetables and fruits‟

Paper presentation on „Effects of Demonitization among Indian Consumers‟

Supported the weavers to sell their products by putting up stalls in our college campus.

Under the supervision of Dr. V. Janaki, Asst. Prof., Dept. of Sociology, Ms. Madhu Vinay,

Asst. Prof., Dept. of Hindi and Dr. Sudha Asst. Prof., Dept. of Mathematics organized following

EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMMEME

The Empowerment Programme under the direction of Ms. M. Lakshmi, Asst. Prof., Dept. of

Psychology, nurtures the spirit of entrepreneurship among students and provides a platform for

challenging minds to think differently and experience entrepreneurship through hands on learning.

The courses offered under Empowerment Programme are beauty theraphy, mehandi

designing, ornamentation, bag marking, fashion designing and tally. The classes are handled by

Ooviyaas School of Design and Fine Art Govt. of India Training Centre and successful candidates

are awarded with Govertment Certificate at the end of the course. This academic year the total

beneficiaries are 605.

PLACEMENT CONSORTIUM

Placement consortium of SKPC acts a liaison between the interest of the students and the

companies. Under the guidance of Placement Coordinator Ms. C. Geetha, Asst. Prof., Dept. of

Computer Science encourages and helps each student to grow and progress and understand one‟s

strength, abilities, weaknesses, skills, and values. For archiving this consortium regularly organizes

seminars, workshops, training and skill development programmes. The activities for the academic

year are:

In the academic year 2015-2016, 239 final year students had registered in placement consortium

and out of them 205 students are placed in various companies that is 86% of students were placed

successfully. The data of students placed in companies are:

Infosys – 14 students got selected

Tata Consultancy Service -58 students got selected.

Sutherland Global Services – 23 students got selected.

Wipro - 3 students got selected.

Vertex – 86 students got selected.

HDB Financial Service – 21 students got selected.

NATIONAL DIGITAL LITERACY MISSION WITH ICTACT

A set of 375 students along with 16 teaching and admin staff successfully completed online

National Digital Literacy Programme organized by Govt. of India.

‘CHAITANYA’ INTER COLLEGIATE FEST

Competitions provide a myriad of opportunities, a platform to demonstrate talent, a stepping

stone to achieve greater things in life and also helps to show off additional strands of knowledge and

interest. It is a platform to test their ideas to see how viable they are.

Under the direction of Ms. B. Rani, Head, Dept. of Mathematics, the Intercollegiate fest was

inaugurated by Dr. S. Sivasubramanian, Advisor (Research and Development) Vel‟s University. 31

city colleges participated and SSS Jain College bagged the overall rolling trophy for co-curricular

activities.

SPORTS ACHIEVEMENT

Sports are a refreshing act for both body and mind. To boost the confidence and build up the

skills, this academic year the Sports Day was Celebrated on 6th

Feb 2017 with Mr. G. Shashank Sai,

IPS., as a chief guest.

ZONE‟ inter-collegiate Tournament

ADD ON PROFICIENT COURSES

To bridge the gap between the job market and the academics, students not only get trained by

professionals but also get hands on experience. It supplements what students are learning in the core

programme.

COMMON PROFICIENCY TEST (CPT)

CPT coaching classes was conducted in the college premises in collaboration with Maruthi

Coaching under the Course Director Mr. T.G. Suresh. The motto of this initiative is to give a

platform to the CA aspirants of North Chennai to achieve their dream. 50% of the enrolled students

from the first batch successfully cleared CPT exam 2016. The next batch of CPT classes commences

from 3rd

April 2017.

BANK COACHING CLASS

Coaching classes for bank exams is started in association with SBIOA and T.I.M.E.

MS OFFICE

Department of Computer Science and Computer Application Faculties successfully trained

final year students in MS OFFICE.

INTERNATIONAL MOTHER TONUGE DAY

Department of Telugu conducted an international Mother tongue day on 21th Feb 2017

wherein eminent personalities and scholars were honoured.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY CELEBRATION

International Women‟s Day is to be celebrated on 8th March 2017 and Ms. Jeyshree,

Proprietor, Palam Silks, will be the Chief Guest of the day. On the same day the Students‟ Council

Valedictory, the Empowerment Programme Exhibition, College Magazine release and Investiture of

office bearers will be held.

CONCLUSION:-

Mahatma Gandhi said, „If I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity

to do it even if I may not have it at the beginning‟. True, I PROUDLY say that we at SKPC believe

in our vision, our mission. We have the confidence in our abilities and incessantly explore our

strengths and weaknesses as it is essential to march on the path of success. We have self-reliance in

our capabilities and will positively excel to be the pioneer in the field of women education in the

forthcoming years.
