  • In the pictures on the previouspages are the names of the mainparts of the sewing machinewhich we have used in this man-ual.

    Because models vary, some of theparts and controls may lookslightly different but they do pro-vide the same function.

    Stitch length regulatorcontrols.

    The pictures opposite show themain styles of the stitch lengthregulator controls.

    The earlier models requiredexperience and guesswork butlater 99 models (as shown) had anumbered guide to stitches perinch.

    The introduction of the 201 (bot-tom right) provided 8 forwardstitch lengths and the same inreverse..

    Tension Mechanism.

    Top of the machine:

    Explained fully in the followingsection on How a SewingMachine Works, the position andlook of the main (top) tensionmechanism also varies with dif-ferent models.

    The 15K is the most distinctive,mounted outside the machine atthe face plate end.

    Early 99s are the same as 66s butthe later ones look like the 201and have a disc-dial with numbersettings.

    Bottom of the machine:

    The bobbin case must berevealed for the differencesbetween models to be appreciat-ed. This too is dealt with in thenext section.
