At the O'CJenint; of this period the battalion w.:,s in n reserve
status with the First Marine negiment the Reserve Regiment for
the Fir2t Narine Division, The period 1 December 1951, to 9 Dec
ember 1951, wae suent in carrying out an intensive retraining
schedule and improving livl.ng conditions in the bivouac area.
Daily reconnaissance and combat patrols were carried out in the
assigned battalion area of patrol resJonsibility.
On 10 December 1951, at 07051; this ·uat·::alion begcn relief
of the First Bsttalion Seventh Marines, then in reserve for the
Seventh Regiment. At 09501, on th&t dftte the ba.t~.alion c:.lmoleted the relief of Firct Battall.o:,, Seventh Farines, as reserve bat
talion of the Seventh Regiment. On ll December 1951, a.t 1525I,
Second Battalion, First Marines, reverted to operational control

From 1~ December 1951, to 16 December 1951, reconnaissance
of LJ.ne ? ek 1,;as completed :end tentative plans prepared and
submitted to the Division vie< the Flrst H.·,rine Regiment for
occupation of that line.
On the 26th of December 1951, at 0725!, Second Battalion
First Mcrines relieved First Eatti·.lion First Marines on its
defensive position in the regiemtal sector of Line Minnesota.
During the period 26 December 1951, to 31 December 1951; the
battalion 1.1ss committed to occupying, defending, improving
defensive installr.ti~ns and conducting vigorous counter recon
naissance of its assh~ned sector of Line Minnesota. In the
accomp1lsr~ent of the-mission, bunkers were built and improved,
reverse slope trails dug e.nd improved, :,nd fields of fire clear
ed. Daylight combat and. reconnaissa.nce patrols a.nd night ambushes
''ere conducted daily. Throughout this period the bsttalion we s
subjected to 50mm Mortar, 76mm RG, 82mm Mortar and constant snip
er fire. Counter battery and return sniper fires were delivered
'"i th excellent results. Normal harassing and interdictory fires
were maintained throughout. At no time during this period did the
enemy choose to )robe or test 'the defensive position in strength.
The morale of thr command durin1= the entire period of this
report was excellent.

At 0815!, a reinforced squad from Do;; Co. departed C.P. on Combet P&trol, Route No.1 and returned 7.t 1705!: negE>tive contect, no casualties. At 0900!, 1•1eapons Co relieved Fox Co on X Corps Radio Relay St»tion Out9oet. At 1010!, a helicopter :x:trol consist.lng of one officer and two enlisted personnel depa.rted in an HRS - 1 •.:1 th t·."o flame throvers, c·.•hite phosphorus and thei'I!Iite t:;renades and .30 calibre incendic ry and trC>.cer ammunition. Mis sian of the pe.trol was to destroy houses, by burning, in the battalion patrol area. The helicoj)ter )atrol returned at 1130!, Lnd reported having burned three ho•J.ses.

2 December 1951: Holiday routine in accordance with Battalion Tralntn~ Memo No. 1;3-51. At 0847! a reinforced squad from Fox Co, dep;-·rted on Combe._t- Patrol Rou:te No. 2. Divine Service for all denomim.tions at 0900!, At 1'240! the oa.trol vehicles received three bursts from an ~ utomE: tic w apon from the vicinity of DT 329219. At 1655! the petrol returned to the C.P.; no casualties. Fox Co relieved E2sy Co on be.ttalion outpost at lO;Y1I. At 150JI ell companies , __ •ere :relieved of Battalion \•lest Outpost duty from 0600!, 3 December to 120::;! 6 December, because of company firinl'' problems w'·ich were to be conducted in that area.

Dog Co. secured its objective, and ort,anized defense for t:-~e ni[';:lt. At 0807! a reinforced squsl ;xJ.trol from Weapons Co. depc.rted for Combat Patrol Route No. 2. At 1655! Weapons Co. patrol returned and reported six ho'-!ses burned, negative contuct, no ca.suc.lties. At 08201 Fox Co. 1·1ent into attack on field exercise. 08201 t1~0 squads (reinforced) from Dog Co. departeC: C.P. for Combat Pe.trol Route X-Ray 1 Hnci returned 2t 15301 1-:i th repart of netatlve contact and. no casual ties. At 0830I the experimental group on anti-mine expedients depPrted C.P. for the experimental area &nd returned at 160:-,I. Tests were conducted on the ability of .50 Cal. machine gun and 3.5
rockets to detonate or nec.tralize emplaced mines. Experiments were also held on sympathetic detonation qualities of various mines and a test drop of dumwy explosives ,,a..s made from the HRS-1 Helicopter to determine the prscticability of delivering charges on a mined area. At 10301 Easy Co. 11as secured from its field firing problem. 14301, Fox Co. secured objective X-Ray send set up its defense. Fox Co. vc:.s secured from its field firing exercise at 18351. b. Personnel will carry two canteens ot water and one third ration (A.eult). ·
o. Class V will be distributed •• follows:
4 clips per Ml rifle 40 rds per BJR 30 rds per Carbine Basic unit ot tire, Class V, will be 41stributed at supply point upon completion or movemeat.
d. Fuel will be distributed or drawn trom a•pply dump as required.
2. Evacue.tion - Casualties oocuring during the movement will be treated by Company Corpsmen. tbulances will be located as follows: One with. erial Bumber One; One with Serial Bumber three aad One with Serial number six.
3. This Battalion will move north on MSR in siX aerials, at one halr hour intervals, commencing at B-hour, D-Day. Serial Collllllllders will elear their serials with cheelr.points located .at intertala along the MaR. Serials will be held at check point located at »~·29&422 tor instructions tor mov~g into detrucking area. Upon reaching the final destination, serial coamamders will haTe personnel detruck immediately and t~cks will be utilized ~1 relieved unit tor return trip. ror Serial breakdown and entruoking zones, see £ppend1x l to Annex lOG.
4. Service troops are included in the Order ot March, see Operation Order 2-51.
