(5) ~~iith the advent of the winter season, the enemy intensified his psychological warfare activities by employing loudspeaker broadcasts, signs and propaganda leaflets extensively, The majority of the leaflets were distributed along patrol routes, however, in several known instances, the enemy employed mortar rounds as a means for dissemination and, in one case, a light aircraft scattered leaflets in friendly rear areas, The variety and quality of this propaganda material was exceptionally good and indicated a definite iJnprovement over previous ene.uy efforts in this field.
( 6) During this period, two new techniques· in enemy defensive tactics were no Led. In several instances, the enemy employed a limited amount of barbed ~~re on his forward positions and, in one instance, an enemy patrol booby trapped a portion of a patrol route with armed grenades,

Appendix IV to let Marines Command Diary, December 1952
MEDICAL SOOiARY
8 January 1953
During the aonth of December, the Medical Department of the First Marines provided direct support to the two Battalions on the Main Line ot Rasist&~ca, &&~d to thG reser;e Battalion.
On five occasions, Forward Aid Stations were manned ~ the cognizant Battalion Surgeons and Hospital Corps personnel for periods of from six to twelve hours in support of Platoon strength night assaults on enemy positions as a result gf these operations, four corpsmen were wounded in action and eTacuated.
The advent of near-zero t1111perature and light snoWII did not hamper appreei&bly evacuation cf wc~~ded frc= the Main Line ct Reeieta.~co, as all ambulance jeeps are heated, and newly developed plastic lined sleeping bags for eTacuation are now in use. There haTe been no cold weather injuries in the Regiment te date, but one Marine was evacuated froa u outpost because of so-called "immersion foot" following use of Insulated Boots.
There was &, increased ineidanca o£ gonorrhGa among parsor~~al sant to Japan for rest and recreation, and those arriTing on incoming drafts. The program of prophylactic oral penicillin following expesure as outlined in existing directives has been fgllowed in virtually all casea. Evidence of urethritis appeared to follow exposure by as much as one month, which is far in excess of the usual incubation period for the disease. The possibility that the delay in the appearance of the disease is due to prophylactic perdeillin has been entertained.
The incid~nce of upper re3pirator7 inf~etions; and presumed NonBacterial Epidemic Infleunsa was markedly increased, but not of epidemic proportions. There was a decrease in the incidence of Hemorrhagic Fever; only one patient with that presumptive diagnosis ~ eTaouated to the 8228 MASH.
During the month of December, in the course of the Field Test ot Armor, Body, Fre.&mente.tion, Protective, 1.-owr !orao Type ~-J2-lj the~ were three instances in which the wearer, a Marine on patrol, was spared from severe injury to the abdomen and external geaitalia by fragments or antipersonnel mines.
