BULLETIN

Hello Everyone, Lovely to have some beautiful sunshine last weekend. I hope you are making the most of the end of the summer months. Classrooms have certainly been busy and it has been wonderful to see everyone settled positively into the routines of school. This year I will continue to work alongside the leadership team as one of the ‘Learning Centre Leaders’. In addition to this role, I will lead the schools ‘Pathways and Transition Program’ for our exiting students, coordinate our VCAL and VET Programs as well as Work Experience Programs and the Careers Curriculum in the secondary school. In my role I will also oversee and manage daily organisation, whole school events, camps, excursions and the Advance and Awards Programs. In addition to my role this year I will introduce ASDAN which is a new curriculum to the senior secondary school and will work with Christine on School Wide Positive Behaviour Support. Post School Options Expo This term our annual Post School Options Expo will take place on Tuesday 17th March at Jackson School. I’d like to extend the invitation to all parents across the school to attend. The expo aims to provide opportunities for parents and students to learn about the post-school options available, build an understanding of the process of transition and network with service providers and other parents. I am looking forward to our families connecting with Service Providers, TAFE Representatives, Employment Services and Community Organisations that support young people with a disability. I hope you can join us this year! ASDAN This year I am fortunate to have the opportunity to introduce ASDAN to our senior secondary school as an alternative to VCAL. ASDAN is an international curriculum development and awarding organisation. It provides students with flexible and engaging programs and qualifications that help young people develop skills for learning, work, and life. We believe this program will provide an engaging curriculum that will empower students through personalised learning and choice. I look forward to sharing our success with the school community throughout the year. Secondary Elective Program I am excited to lead the development of the new secondary school ‘Elective Program’. After a program review with the secondary school staff last year, and gathering student feedback, we’d like to introduce several different hands-on learning programs to enrich what we are already achieving in the secondary school. The activities we have selected to start with this semester will offer authentic experiences that have the clear purpose of building skills for students to participate and communicate successfully in the community beyond our school. The Elective Program is designed to enable students to learn in a variety of settings and contexts as well as transfer their learning to real-life situations. Students will select from a number of programs on offer and will be given every opportunity to have a say in their learning journey.

It is a journey of development and discovery, connecting young people and supporting their successes. With alternative requirements, participants are supported to fulfil their potential and achieve their personal best. The secondary team will use the interschool sports program, swimming, the school canteen, café club, and school camps to fulfil the requirements of these awards. This year the team will be introducing environmental studies to the list of programs on offer to students. Water 2 All Water 2 All will continue in 2020. We have several year 11 and 12 students enrolled to commence this School-Based Apprenticeship which will commence shortly.
