A Huge thank you to Craig Grocke!! I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Craig this year and am
grateful for his experience and approach to all things community - another great example of different
organisations partnering for excellent community outcomes. All the best to you, Craig! ~ Rebecca
Peak Advisory Forums The Barossa Council at its’ November
Council Meeting endorsed the Terms
of Reference for the Community and
Economic Development Forum, and
the Sport, Recreation and Community
Facilities Forum .
Council Representatives Councillors Margaret Harris, Leonie
Boothby and John Angas will partici-
pate in the Community and Econom-
ic Development Forums. Councillors
Scotty Milne, Michael Lange and
Richard Miller will participate in the
Sport, Recreation and Community
Facilities Forum.
What is Their Purpose? The forum is a venue for two-way
strategic communication between
Council, community groups and
regional stakeholders directly involved
w i th tow nshi p devel opm ent ,
community buildings and recreation
assets. It also allows communication
between groups with common inter-
ests.
When Will they Begin? Peak Advisory Forums will begin in
February 2016. The Corporate and
Community Services team will coordi-
nate in total four forums per year, two
focussed on Community and
Economic Development, and two
focussed on Sport, Recreation and
Community Facilities associated with
recreation parks.
Nominate your Representative One representative (or proxy) from
each volunteer community group or
incorporated association registered
with Council, and representative from
each sporting code is able to register
to attend each forum.

MERRY CHRISTMAS
Purchase Order Books Why people volunteer?
Emotional: because they care and want to help and receive a personal enjoy-
ment out of giving
Experience: fun, social interaction, seeing an outcome
Tangible: work experience, develop new skills, knowledge and a network of con-
tacts
One in three people would volunteer if asked but often not asked or unaware their
club needs volunteers.
Barriers/ Challenges to Volunteering:
Lack of structure and communication
Poor support in being shown how the job can be done
Perception of time requirements being too much
Fear of being criticised
Lack of empowerment to use own initiative to do the job
No job description or flow chart to define who does what
Stay tuned next year as the Committee Focus newsletter
completes its own transition, to the Volunteer Focus newsletter!
