How We GAIN The Advantage

Our Feed Safety and Quality Management Program

We operate a robust feed safety model based on scientifi c HACCP based risk assessment. This system is benchmarked against industry leading practices and certifi ed independently to UFAS (Universal Feed Assurance Scheme) and BETA NOPS Certifi cations.

Our Material Quality Control

Our quality control procedures are a prerequisite to our sourcing, receipt and manufacturing processes. Our internal laboratory capability ensures the integrity and specifi cation compliance of our raw materials and also our fi nished products nutritional specifi cations.

We operate a positive release program, based on risk assessment which includes BETA NOPS requirements. We also implement stringent product quality parameters and we monitor these throughout the shelf life of our products.

Our Raw Materials

We are committed to sourcing only the best raw materials for our equine feeds. Our dedicated ‘Supplier Assurance Programme’ and ‘Agronomy Programme’ ensure that we use only the fi nest ingredients. Our cereal specialists monitor the crops from when they are fi rst sown right through to harvest. We closely evaluate each ingredient and only those that meet our strict criteria are used in our formulations.

At GAIN Equine Nutrition we take great care and attention in formulating and producing only the best in equine nutrition. We constantly strive for higher quality standards in everything we do, from sourcing our raw materials and quality ingredients to the training and development of our expert team. We are a passionate leader, combining our heritage, expertise and strength to ensure your horse consistently receives the very best nutrition.


Our Production Process

Our oats and cereals are thoroughly screened and cleaned on entry to our processing facility. Then they are moistened, toasted, rolled and pressure cooked at specifi c temperatures, all to achieve the correct moisture and digestibility level.

In the production of our muesli feeds we use ingredients which undergo processes such as toasting and micronizing.

Toasting offers benefi ts such as increased available energy, improved overall digestibility and also helps to standardise moisture content which increases product quality and shelf life.

Micronizing results in increasing the gelatinisation and improves digestion of starchy grains (e.g. oats, barley and maize) in the small intestine. Micronization converts the starches to sugars and the process greatly enhances palatability and fl avour of the grain. The fi nal product has an appealing and attractive appearance, is dust free, with good colour retention of the natural grain.

Our Balanced Formulations

Our expert team of nutritionists formulate our feeds to suit the digestive system of the horse and to ensure maximum absorption. Our unique formulations contain Alltech’s nutritionally advanced vitamins and minerals; Yea-Sacc®, Bioplex® and Sel-Plex®. These vitamins and minerals work in harmony with the horse to optimise digestion and nutrient uptake.

Our Nutra Lock Guarantee

We pack and seal our products using our Nutra Lock guarantee to ensure the highest quality feed and goodness is delivered to you and your horse as fresh as the day it was packed.

Our Nutra Lock bags are made from a strong foil material and when used in conjunction with our modifi ed atmospheric packaging process protects the safety and quality of the feed throughout its shelf life.

Packed in this way our feed has a shelf life of up to twelve months.

Our expert team of nutritionists and business managers are dedicated to developing new equine nutritional solutions. We work closely with universities and industry bodies to bring the latest in research, technology and world leading testing methodologies into our feeds. Ultimately the customer’s needs are at the centre of everything we do.


We incorporate Alltech’s nutritionally advanced technologies in our performance horse feeds.

The Irish Horse Welfare Trust was established in 1999 to help the plight of horses in Ireland. They rescue, rehabilitate and rehome horses that have been abandoned, neglected or ill-treated. It is a privilege for us to support such a worthy cause.

Instructions For UseOne block should provide adequate access for up to 10 horses. Calculate how long the blocks should last based upon the maximum recommended daily intake. Do not replace the blocks before this time period has elapsed. Always remove the handle before feeding. Blocks should be moved occasionally to prevent poaching. Do not feed to stabled horses. Do not feed to sheep. Safe for cattle grazing with horses. Do not feed with additional compound feeds.

Feeding Guidelines

• Each block weighs 12kg.

• Maximum feeding rate: 15g/100kg bodyweight per day (e.g. 90g per day for a mature 600kg horse or 30g per day for a young 200kg horse).

Recommended Feeding Practices

• Feed by weight and not by volume.

• Split daily feed into smaller meals and feed at the same time each day.

• Adjust quantities fed according to bodyweight, workload and temperament.

• Make any changes to ration over 5 - 7 days to reduce the risk of digestive upset.

• Provide clean, fresh water at all times.

• Provide a salt lick.

• Do not exercise for at least one hour after feeding.

• Feed good quality forage free from dust and mould.

• Feed at least 1% bodyweight of forage (in dry matter) per day, i.e. 5kg hay (dry matter) for a 500kg horse or provide access to pasture.

• Do not add further vitamin and mineral supplements unless under professional guidance.

• Feed extra electrolytes as required.

• Keep all feeding equipment and utensils clean.

• Follow a good worming programme.

• Check horses’ teeth regularly.
