1. GENERAL

1.1 The NAC EM02-XXX is a rugged and durable mountable housing designed for indoor or outdoor environments. The EM02-XXX is designed to house up to 2 (type-200™) T1/HDSL, DDS or DST modules. The unit can also be used to house 1 (type 400) module by populating only slot 1. This assembly is designed to be mounted on a wall, pole or other outside location where termination of services are required. The EM02-XXX has a one door that secures the facility wiring and equipment with a pin-in-hex style screw. There is a separate customer access door for security of CPE wiring.

1.3 The EM02-XXX provides the following features and capabilities:

• Die-cast aluminum construction engineered to endure extreme environments and physical abuse.

• 2-slot mounting designed to house up to 2 (type-200™) or 2 (type-400) T1/HDSL, DDS or DST module.

• Separate and secure compartments and access doors for the Service Provider and Customer.

• Versions with full Surge protection sockets, Facility only sockets and no protection sockets with the option of adding post mounted station protectors.

• CPE screw terminals and RJ48 Jack that is switchable from C (T1/HDSL) to S (DDS or DST) configuration

• GR-63, GR-49-Core & GR-487 compliant

• UL 60950 Listed.

• Local power terminal block provided.

2. APPLICATIONS 2.1 The EM02-XXX will house up to 2 (type-200™) or 1 (type-400) T1/HDSL, DDS or DST module. 2.2 The EM02-XXX is designed to be installed in outdoor locations, such as the side of a customer residence, strip-mall or other location. This assembly can be wall mounted or pole mounted. With the EM02-AC101 accessory it can have even more options for mounting. This assembly can also be used indoor where it could be exposed to more extreme environment or physical abuse. typically used as a service demarcation from Service Providers to End-Users or Intra-Facilities.

3. DESCRIPTION 3.1 The EM02-XXX all have two (2) slots for T1/HDSL or Data modules. They all have screw terminals for the Facility connections and screw terminals and RJ48 Jacks that are switchable for the CPE connections. The Switch will configure the RJ48 jack into a RJ48C or RJ48S. An RJ48C jack is used for T1/HDSL modules and an RJ48S jack is used for DDS or DST modules. They all have a ground lug for proper grounding of the assembly. 3.2 The EM02-000 and EM02-200 is supplied with sockets for 5-pin protectors on the Facility side connections only. Protectors are not provided. Refer to figure 2 for reference.

3.4 The EM02-010 and EM02-210 is supplied with sockets for 5-pin protectors on both the CPE and Facility side connections. Refer to figure 4 for reference.

4. INSTALLATION

4.1 Housing Figure 5

a. Locate the desired location and install the hook bracket using a #10 screw. Use an appropriate screw type for the intended installations. A second screw can be used if desired.

b. Hang the EM02-XXX from the hook bracket as shown.

c. Secure EM02-XXX using an additional #10 screw in the provided hole at the bottom of assembly.

d. An “optional” pole bracket (EM02-AC101) can be ordered for pole or wall mounting applications as shown.

4.2 Connections Figure 6

a. Slit rubber grommet at the bottom of the assembly and gently push wire through.

b. Manage any cable slack and use a cable tie to hold cable securely. Connect wire to the appropriate terminal blocks. Refer to figure 6 for wire connections.

c. Insert 5-pin protecting plugs on assemblies that require them. (Protectors are not supplied)

4.3 Grounding

a. All grounding should follow Service Providers practices and local codes.

b. Route the appropriate gauge ground wire through the rubber grommet.

c. Connect the ground wire to the ground lug and attach the other end of the wire to a bonded ground point

4.4 Optional Post Mounted Station Protectors

a. Optional post mounted station protectors can be used on the EM02-001 or EM02-201. Refer to Figure 7 for reference.

b. Route the appropriate gauge ground wire through the rubber grommet.

c. Connect the wire to the station protector and add a wire from station protector to the terminal block. Only one wire pair is shown for clarity. Refer to Figure 7 for reference.

4.5 External Power

a. A terminal block is available for a local external 48Vdc power source. Refer to figures 2-4 for reference.

6. WARRANTY & REPAIRS

6.1 Warranty

NAC warrants this product for the period specified by the terms governing the sale of the product. Any attempt to repair or modify the equipment by anyone other than an authorized NAC representative will void the warranty. This limited warranty does not cover any losses or damages resulting from shipment to or from the customer, or from improper installation, abuse, modifications, or unauthorized repair by other than NAC personnel.

6.2 Repair and Return

NAC equipment will be repaired or replaced without cost during the warranty period if the product is defective for any reason other than abuse, improper use, or improper installation. Before returning defective equipment, first request a Return Material Authorization (RMA) number from NAC. Once an RMA number is obtained, return the unit, freight prepaid, along with a brief description of the problem, to:
