The White Emperor Town of FengjieSituated in the north bank of the Yangtze River at the mouth of the Qutangxia Gorge, the White Emperor Town of Fengjie county, which is 451 kilometers away from Chongqing city, borders Kuimen Gorge in the east and Bazhentu battle array in the west. It is surrounded by water in three directions, and stands magnificently on the vital water and land communications line.Rumor has it that in the last few years of the West Han Dynasty, Gongsun Shu set up a separatist regime in Sichuan, being the king of himself. He styled himself “White Emperor” just because there usually appeared dragon-like white clouds rising from a well; afterwards, he set the capital here and transformed the name of the town from Ziyang to White Emperor. The extant White Emperor Town, which was ever restored during the Ming and Qing dynasties, is the best place to appreciate the magnificence of Kuimen Gorge. After the completion of the Three Gorges Project, the White Emperor Town will be completely hedged by waters due to the rise of the water level. The town will become a paradise on earth with much more fantastic features and cruisers will be able to reach the town straight through.

TB. Three Gorges Dam

The Three Gorges Dam site area was opened to the public in 1997, it was considered as the 4A scenic spot by the National Tourism Administration in 2002. Now it has 5 different tourism sites including the Exhibition Center, Tanzi Ling High Point Garden, 185-meter Garden, Dam Site Garden and the Water-closing garden. It covers an area of 15.28 square kilometers in total. Taking the world’s biggest dam as its base, the whole tourism area presents its project culture and hydraulic feature in educative, attractive and creative ways. It became a hot destination for the tourists at home and abroad due to its unique landscape and modern feature of human intelligence.

TC. Yidu Converter StationThe Yidu Converter Station, located in the town of Caijiachong, Yidu city, Hubei province, is the sending terminal of the Yihua DC project. The station covers an area about 152.7 acres. It is about 25 km from Yichang city, and about 48km from the Three Gorges Dam. The Yihua DC project is one of the most important channels transmitting the electric power generated by the Three Gorges Hydraulic Power Plant

11

Page 12: 2007 Hvdc Users Conference--programme

out. The capacity of the monopole DC transmission is 1500MW, and bipole DC transmission is 3000MW, with the rated voltage of ±500KV and rated DC current of 3000A. The length of the DC line is 1048km. The project was started in Dec, 2004. On September 5 th, 2006, the AC system started commissioning, and on September 21st, 2006, the bipole DC system started commissioning. The station was put into commercial operation on December 25th, 2006, and the right of operation was delivered to the STATE GRID OPERATION COMPANY LIMITED on December 2nd, 2006.

ACCOMMODATION

The Three Gorges Project Hotel was authorized by the Organizing Committee of the 2007 HVDC Users Conference to take care of the accommodation, tour registration, flight ticket booking, and so on. The participants should reserve the hotel (Nayun Bldg. in Three Gorges Project Hotel) and plan your travel route in advance.
