Through 11 seasons as head coach at ArkansasState University, Brian Boyer’s name has becomesynonymous with success and the women’s basket-ball program. Entering his 12th season as headcoach at ASU, Boyer has climbed to second place onthe ASU career win chart with a record of 181-153and needs just 16 victories to take over first placeas the all-time winningest basketball coach in A-State history. Under Boyer’s guidance, ArkansasState has reached the Women’s National InvitationTournament four times, including three of the pastseven seasons. He led the Red Wolves to the 2003-04 Sun Belt East Division Championship, the programhas produced 18 All-Sun Belt Conference playerswith Boyer at the helm, and Boyer was named SunBelt Conference Coach of the Year following the2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons. His 96 career Sun BeltConference victories rank him fifth all-time in ca-reer conference wins.

The 2009-10 Red Wolves finished the year at 13-18 under Boyer, with a 7-11 mark in Sun Belt Con-ference action. Although Arkansas State did finishunder .500 on the year and below the lofty stan-dards that Boyer has maintained during his tenure, the Red Wolves did advance to the quarterfinals ofthe Sun Belt Conference Tournament before fallinglate to the eventual tournament champions. TheRed Wolves posted an 80-79 overtime victory on theroad against Big XII power Kansas State, and thatovertime win, coupled with three other extra-pe-riod victories during the season, boosted Boyer’sovertime record to an impressive 11-1 in the regularseason.

Boyer directed the Red Wolves toyet another winning season as hewrapped up his first decade as theprogram’s head coach in 2008-09.The Red Wolves finished the seasonat 16-14, posting victories over post-

season participants Creighton and Arkansas-LittleRock along the way.

Although the 2007-08 season was expected bymany to be a rebuilding year, Boyer put forth whatwas arguably one of his finest coaching perform-ances, molding a group of unheralded players into ateam that produced yet another 20-win season atArkansas State. Faced with the task of replacingthree 1,000-point scorers, including the program’sall time leading shot blocker and rebounder, alongwith the all-time assists leader, Boyer directedArkansas State to a 20-12 record. ASU won a record13 conference games during the 2007-08 season, andreached the semifinals of the Sun Belt ConferenceTournament for the 13th time in 16 tries. The RedWolves finished the season with the distinction ofbeing the only Division I program in the country witha winning record that did not have a single playerwho averaged double figure scoring.

Arkansas State posted victories over BrighamYoung and Alabama early in the season, earning thewin over the Crimson Tide on the road in Tuscaloosa. The Red Wolves finished 2007 with a 6-7 record, butwent on a tear in the New Year, closing out the sea-son with a 14-5 finish and a run to the semifinals ofthe SBC Tournament for the fourth consecutive sea-son.

Like always, the 2007-08 team was especiallytough at home, post-ing a 13-2 record atthe ASU Convoca-tion Center thatincluded a 9-0record againstSun Belt Confer-ence opponents.
