    The a ll new 9-5s a ll-turbo p ow ertrain line-up b rings together Saab expertise in

    turbocharging with state-of-the-art engine technologies.

With g asoline and BioPow er (E85 c om pa tib le) e ngines develop ing more tha n 100 hpper liter, the new 9-5 Sed an a lso a dvanc es Saab s rightsizing p ow ertrain strate gy. Tha tme ans efficient turbocha rge d eng ines as sma ll as 1.6 liters c an make a fitting p artner

for Saab s new premium sed an. With d iesel po we r, CO2 emissions as low as 139 g / km

are a lso on of fer. All transmissions are six-spee d .

Gasoline choiceAll eng ines fea ture elec tronic ma nage me nt, elec tronic throttle control, d irec t ignition

and four valves pe r cylinder op era ted by o verhead, maintenanc e-free , cha in-d riven

c amshafts. For long evity and reliab ility, turboc harge rs are w ater-c oo led and use a ir-

to-a ir interco oling to inc rea se intake c harge density.

To g ive m inima l p iston fric tion and we ar c harac teristics, while a lso b ene fiting fue l and

oil c onsump tion, the c ylinder wa lls of the e ngines a re laser-etc hed for an extremely

smo oth finish. Und er-skirt p iston o il c oo ling and sod ium-filled exhaust va lves a re further

    efficiency measures.

1.6 TurboThe eng ine line-up sta rts with this pow erful four-cylinder motor giving 180 hp / 132 kW

and exce llent torque of 230 Nm a ll the way from 2,200 rpm to 5,500 rpm. It inc lude s an

ove rboost func tion, which ra ises torque to 266 Nm for up to five sec ond s on a wideop en throttle.

Rated amo ng the mo st p ow erful series p rod uc tion engines in its displac ement c lass,

this rightsized pow ertra in gives the a ll new 9-5 strong performa nc e: zero to 100 kph in

    9.5sec ond s, and impressive fuel consump tion a nd CO 2 em issions p rojec ted to b e 7.6l/ 100 km a nd 179 g/ km.

For streng th a nd red uc ed noise, the c ylinder b loc k is in ca st iron. A die c ast, structural

a luminum o il pan a dds further stiffness and noise suppression. Add itiona l refinem ents

inc lude the use of ho llow c am shafts, for red uced weight and lower rec iproca ting

ma ss, and a dual-mass flywheel for imp roved running refinement. A map-based

thermosta t c ontrol raises the c oo lant temperature at low engine speeds, or under

light loa ds, to help red uc e interna l lubricant fric tion and a lso imp rove fuelconsumption.

This eng ine is offe red with f ront w hee l drive or Saab XWD, the industry-lead ing a ll-

whe el-drive system . It fea tures va riable va lve t iming and d irec t injec tion to furtherimp rove fuel c onsump tion, emissions and pe rformanc e. The camshafts have

hydraulic ally op erate d vane-type c am p hasers which a llow both the inlet a nd

exhaust va lve timing to b e a djusted indepe ndently, ac c ord ing to varying engine

spe ed and loa d. The m any be nefits include a b roa de r spread of to rque, higher

ma ximum p owe r and imp roved fuel c onsump tion.

Direc t injec tion delivers fuel unde r high pressure d irec tly into the c ombustion c ham ber
