Sustainable thoughts: At the Gym Bring your own reusable bottle filled with filtered water from home every time you go to the gym. You could save an average of $200 per year as well as 14 pounds of plastic. If one in twenty gym members who generally buy a bottle of water before each workout brought a reusable water bottle from home, the plastic saved annually would total nearly 29 million pounds. If the weather is right, consider giving the treadmill a rest and taking your walking or jogging routine outdoors. A 25 percent shift in time on the treadmill to time outside would conserve about 60KWh of energy per year. Bring your own workout towel instead of using one that your gym provides. You will not only reduce exposure to harsh detergents, bleaches, and other disinfectants, but you will help save water and energy as well. If just 1 percent of fitness club members in the US were to start bringing their own towel, four thousand fewer loads of laundry would be washed per day – an annual savings of more than 36 million gallons of water.

IIDA Texas/Oklahoma Chapter was one of the affiliates for the 2010 Gulf Coast Green Symposium held on April 15-16 at the University of Houston Hilton. As a proud participant, IIDA Houston City Center presented information about IIDA during the symposium. Thank you to all volunteers participating and those who stopped by our table. Our winner for the Power Mat (donated by Teknion) was the City of Houston Green building Resource Center Program Director, Steve Stelzer. The winner for the Digital Photo Frame (donated by OM Workplace) was from Foresight Communications Group Principal, Pam McConathy. Congratulations to both and thank you for stopping by our table and supporting IIDA! Also big thank you for our volunteers and prizes sponsors Teknion, OM Workplace, and Bruna Colosio-Collazo.

CONCEPT: raw romanticism

Victorian architecture, much like Victorian fashion, was perceived as superficial and aesthetically focused. In reality the underlying structure was quite severe and solid. Inspired by the duplicity-- our garment combines delicate attributes with rigid elements. We further push this concept of defied expectations by introducing raw, edgy detailing to the romantic silhouette. The dress itself transforms from an elegant gown into a sassy ensemble. Everything about the garment is well planned, yet completely unpredictable.
