Returning 12 letterwinners, seven sen-iors, six starters and its All-Americanlibero, Lynn University’s volleyballteam enters the 2010 season with highexpectations. Coming off of three-con-secutive NCAA postseason appear-ances, the Fighting Knights aim fortheir first Sunshine State Conferencetitle and another deep run on the na-tional stage.

Returning starters for the Blue andWhite include four-year letterwinnersDevon Woolard, Lacy Redwine, So-phie Gagnon and Haley Pratt as wellas second-year Division I transfer sen-iors Kala Abdell, Katie Bradley andMallory Deneen. The seven standoutsaccounted for over 86 percent of theKnights’ offensive production from ayear ago.

Running the show at setter, Woolardhas already decimated the all-time as-sists record and looks to put togetherher fourth-straight 1,000 assists season. She also needs 109 digs to become justthe second LU member of the1,000/1,000 club and the first in assistsand digs.

Pratt and Gagnon will get the nod inthe middle, having combined for 381blocks in their tenure in Boca Raton. Both seniors rank in the top-10 all-timein career blocks as Pratt is second with222 and Gagnon is sixth with 159.Pratt needs just 20 rejections to passformer All-American Daris Ro-driguez’s program record of 242blocks while Gagnon should comfort-ably put herself in the upper-echelonof the books by the end of the season.

Redwine, an AVCA All-American andAll-SSC performer as a junior, anchorsLynn’s defensive presence at the liberospot. Setting a program record with543 digs and 4.76 digs per set last sea-

son, she has an outside shot of toppingthe all-time career digs record of 1,808.

On the outside, the trio of Abdell,Bradley and Deneen will provide astrong rotation of skill and athleticism.Abdell led the Knights with 320 killslast season, Bradley topped the squadwith 3.09 kills per set and Deneen wassecond on the squad with 28 serviceaces.

Coming off the bench and earningstarting nods depending on rotations,Chelsey Semprini adds additional fire-power to the Blue and White’s high-octane offense. An SSC All-Freshmanperformer in 2009, she averaged 2.36kps on the right side.

Waiting in the wings are a bevy of tal-ented reserves. Junior defensive spe-cialist Kara Bailey looks to shake off aninjury-plagued sophomore campaignto match or surpass her 94 digs and 18service aces as a freshman. JoiningBailey on the back row are sopho-mores Michelle Jordan and DarianWeppner, both strong defensive play-ers that will also see time as service spe-cialists. Fellow sophomore AbbeyBrokop will see time as a reserve setterwhile the Knights utilize her strongserving skills as well.

Despite returning its entire roster fromlast year, Lynn will also depend onthree talented newcomers. Graduatesenior Keiu Polluveer adds depth andexperience to the middle while juniortransfer Natalie Harville will split timein the middle and on the outside.Freshman Angie Caple will also con-tribute on the outside.

Five teams ranked in the top-25 of theAVCA Preseason Poll, and three morereceiving votes, highlight the 2010schedule for the Fighting Knights. The

Blue and White open the campaign byhosting the Courtyard by MarriottClassic where they face 16th-rankedLewis and top-receiving vote getter Cal-ifornia (Pa.) along with Valdosta Stateand Colorado-Colorado Springs. Lynnthen heads south to take part in the 5thAnnual Nova Southeastern SharksClassic the following weekend to battle18th-ranked Minnesota State-Mankatoand a trio of in-region Gulf South Con-ference programs in Arkansas Tech,Christian Brothers and West Ala-bama.

Always a brutal conference schedule, the Knights then head into SSC playwhere they were picked to finish thirdin the league while garnering a pair offirst place votes. Lynn plays five of itsfirst six SSC matches on the road, in-cluding at traditional league stalwartsFlorida Southern, Barry, third-rankedTampa and Eckerd.

Wrapping up the first half of confer-ence play against 11th-ranked SaintLeo in early October, the Knights takea respite from league action but notfrom tough competition. Hosting22nd-ranked and 2009 national semi-finalists Flagler to open the week, theBlue and White then take part in theFlorida Southern South RegionCrossover where they face North Ala-bama and West Alabama, as well asWest Florida who is receiving votes inthe AVCA poll.
