OverthepastnineyearsatBrevard,shehastakentheTornadosfrom eighthplaceintheconferencetofirstplaceintheAppalachianAthletic Conferencewithherbestseasoncomingin2005asshewasnamedAAC CoachoftheyearwiththeTornadosfinishing25-6,andhasguidedthe TornadosthroughthetransitionintoNCAADivisionIIplay,qualifyingfor theFoodLionSouthAtlanticConferenceTournamentineachofthetwo seasonsBrevardhasbeeneligible.

In2008,sheguidedBrevardCollegetoa14-17,3-13SACrecordastheTornadosmadethe2008FoodLionSouthAtlanticConferenceVolleyballTournamentasthe#8seedbeforebowingouttoregularseasonchampionWingate.

Athree-timeBrevardCollegeCoachoftheyear,SkeffingtonwilllooktocontinuetheimprovementoftheentirevolleyballprogramastheTornadoscompeteintheirsecondseasonasfullmembersofboththeNCAADivisionIIandtheSouthAtlanticConference.

PriortotakingoveratBrevard,SkeffingtoncoachedatTheCollegeofWooster,RobertMorrisCollege(DivisionI),andSt.JohnFisherCollege,respectively.DuringhertimeatSt.JohnFisher,SkeffingtonrecordedherbestoverallseasonasaheadcoachastheCardinalsat42-3.

Inadditiontocoachingcollege,Skeffingtonhasbeenactive indirectingvolleyballcampsatBrevardCollege,Wooster, andatSt.JohnFisherCollege.Skeffingtonhasalsobeen apartofseverallocalcampsincluding:BrevardHigh School,EastHendersonHighSchool,GirlScoutsof Asheville,PisgahHighSchool,RosmanHighSchooland ShelbyHighSchool.

SkeffingtonisCAPIIcertifiedasacoachandcontinuesto directseveralvolleyballcampsandTeamCampsoverthe summer.

DobertalsohasextensivecoachingexperiencewithUSAVolleyball,having servedasaUSAVjuniorcoachfrom2003andaUSAVadultcoachsince 2006.HehasbeenselectedbytheCarolinaRegiontoheadcoachtheHigh PerformanceBoy’sNationalteam,andalsohasbeenselectedtoserveasa HighPerformanceCoachtoworkwithboththeRegion’stopyoungmaleand femaleplayers.HealsocoachedtheMakaiWahinevolleyballclubfrom 2003-2005andcurrentlyisacoachwiththeTriangleVolleyballclub.

WiththeUSAVAdults,hewastheHeadCoachofaWomen’sUSAVteam from2006-2010andledtheteamtotheirfirstRegionalChampionshipin

teamhistoryin2009,andhealsomanagedandplayedwithaMen’sUSAV team,servingasanoutsidehitterandsetter.

DobertwasanoutsidehitteranddefensivespecialistfortheUnitedStatesMarineCorps“All-Marine”volleyballteamfrom2002-2005andisacurrentUSAVassociationmember/competitorandanavidoutdoorgrass/sandcourtcompetitor.

ShepertycomestoBrevardaftergraduatingfromAverettUniversityin Danville,Va.,whereshegraduatedwithaBachelorofScienceinAthletic Training.WhileatAverett,sheworkedasastudentathletictrainer,gaining experienceworkingwiththeCougars’football,women’ssoccer,volleyball, men’sbasketballandwomen’sandmen’stennisteams.WhileinDanville, shealsoservedasaFirstAidResponderforlocalhighschoolvarsityand juniorvarsityfootballgames.

OthertrainingexperienceforShepertyincludesworkingwiththeheadathletictraineratWoodrowWilsonHighSchoolfrom2005-2008,assistingwithtreatments,evaluationsandpreparationforfootballandmen’sandwomen’ssoccerpracticesandgames,andshealsoassistedtheathletictraineratthePortsmouthInvitationalBasketballTournamentfrom2005-2007.

Team.Schoonover,anHonorableMentionrecipientforthesixthannualWoodenCuplastyear,returnsasthe

Tornadosactivedigsleaderandisthirdall-timeintheBCrecordbookswith1,210digsinhercareer.Thesenior

finisheduplastseasonwith514digsforanaverageof4.59pergame,goodforfifthintheconferencelast

season.

TheTornadosfinishedfirstoverallintheSouthAtlanticConferencein2009inblockspergamewith2.41per

gameandOsbyandAtkinsonweremajorplayers

intheeffortasOsbyfinishedsecondoverall

intheconferencetoteammateSeamanwith

1.16pergame,with109totalblocks,recording

48soloblocksand61blockassists,including

apairofnineblockeffortsagainstMarsHilllast

TheSAC-8consistedofCarson-NewmanCollege,CatawbaCollege,ElonCollege,Gardner-WebbUniversity,Lenoir-RhyneCollege,MarsHillCollege,NewberryCollege,andPresbyterianCollege.Dr.FredBentley,ofMarsHillCollege,wasnamedleaguepresidentforitsinauguralyear,byavoteofthememberinstitutions.

In1989,theleague’s15thyearofoperation,theSouthAtlanticConferencebecameacomprehensive,all-sportsconference.ThatyeartheSouthAtlanticConferencesponsored10sports-football,men’sandwomen’sbasketball,baseball,softball,men’ssoccer,volleyball,men’sgolf,men’sandwomen’stennis.Latertheconferencegrewto14championshipsportsbyaddingwomen‘ssoccer(1990),men’sandwomen’scrosscountry(1993)andwomen’sgolf(1999).

TheSouthAtlanticConferencewascomposedofthesameeightmemberinstitutionsfrom1975until1988,whenWingateUniversityreplacedNewberryCollegeastheeighthmemberinstitution.Newberrylaterrejoinedtheconferencein1996.

AthleticsBrevardCollegeboastsadistinguishedandsuccessfulhistoryinintercollegiateathletics,winningninenationalteamchampionshipsasajuniorcollege(1937-2000).Duringthisperiod,morethan200BrevardCollegestudentathletesreceivedAllAmericanhonors.Aftercompletingthetransitiontoafour-yearinstitutionin2000,theCollegebecameanactivememberoftheAppalachianAthleticConference(AAC)oftheNationalAssociationofIntercollegiateAthletics(NAIA).Overthenexteightyears,Brevardathleticteamsearned10conferencetitlesandmade9nationaltournamentappearances. AneweraofBrevardCollegeathleticsbeganin2006astheTornadosinitiatedthetransitionprocessfromtheNAIAtoNCAADivisionIIwhilealsoaddingfootball,cyclingandcheerleadingasvarsitysports.BrevardCollegewasofficiallygrantedactiveNCAADivisionIIandSouthAtlanticConferencemembershipstatusonSeptember1,2008.Injusttwoyearsofeligibility,everysingleBCAthleticteamhaseitherrecordedaSouthAtlanticConferencewinormadeittothepostseasonSouthAtlanticConferencetournament.Themen’sbasketballteamwonBrevard’sfirstSouthAtlanticConferenceChampionshipandtheCyclingteamwasnamedthe2009FallMountainBikeNationalChampions.BrevardhasalsoseenmultipleathletesandcoachesreceivebothAll-ConferenceandAll-RegionrecognitionastheTornadoslooktoestablishapatternofsuccessbothintheNCAAandtheSouthAtlanticConference.

Dr.DrewVanHornassumedthepresidencyofBrevardCollegeon September30,2002.HeisthethirdpresidentofBrevardCollegesince itbecameafour-yearinstitution. Sincetakingthehelm,PresidentVanHornhasledcollaborativeefforts toenhanceBrevardCollege’scommitmenttoengageandeducateits studentsinthetheoreticalandappliedliberalarts.

UnderPresidentVanHorn’sleadership,theinstitutioncontinues tochallengestudentstointegrateknowledgeandpracticalexperience sothattheycanbecomecompetent,confidentandresponsible citizens,servingtheirlocalandglobalcommunities. Tothatend,BrevardCollegeoffersvariedprogramsandopportunities toitsstudentsthatformthefoundationforpursuingfurtherformal study,meaningfulvocationsandlife-longpersonalandprofessional development.

In2004,PresidentVanHornledoneofthemostambitiouscapitalcampaignsinBrevardCollege’shistory.BytheconclusionofthecampaigninMay2006,theCollegeexceededits$14milliontargetbymorethan$5million.Fundsraisedfromthecampaignwereusedtoprovidesignificantstudentscholarships;increasetheCollege’sendowment;enhancestudentenrollmentandretentionefforts;andrenovatemanyoftheCollege’sfacilities,includingresidencehallsandclassrooms.

Duringhistenure,BrevardCollegehasalsoaddednewacademicprograms,includingpsychology,criminaljusticeandteachereducationlicensure.

TheCollegealsomovedfromtheNAIAtoNCAADivision IIandaddedfootball,cyclingandcheerleadingasvarsity sports.

PatehasbeeninstrumentalindevelopingaModelNCAADivisionIIcomplianceprogramduringthetransitionalprocessfromNAIAtoNCAADivisionII.SheorchestratedthecompletionoftheNCAADivisionIIprovisionalmembershipprocessundertheleadershipofPresidentVanHorninAugustof2008astheTornadosmadethetransitionfromprovisionalmemberstofullNCAADivisionIImemberscompetingintheSouthAtlanticConference.

Pate,a2003graduateofBrevardCollege,wasa twotimeNAIAAcademicAll-Americanathlete andafouryearstarterfortheBCsoftballteam. Sheendedherplayingcareerwitha.377batting averageandholdstheBCsoftballrecordfor mosthits.PategraduatedSummaCumLaude fromBrevard,earningabachelor’sdegreein Business&OrganizationalLeadership.Sheearned hermaster’sDegreeinBusinessAdministration fromWesternCarolinaUniversityinthesummer of2008.
