For further assistance, all Election Staff have received customer service training in accordance with the City of Barrie’sAccessibleCustomerServicePolicy to provide a positive and inclusive voting experience and will be able to provide you with the supportrequired.

The provision of accessible elections for all electors is one of the key principles associated with municipal elections. The 2010 MunicipalElectionAccessibilityPlan was developed in consultation

withBarrie’sAccessibilityAdvisoryCommittee as part of the City’s commitment to the needs of persons with disabilities to identify and eliminate barriers to create a positive voting experience. The purpose of the Plan is to ensure that electoralservicesprovideequalopportunity to all electors and candidates.

Guides for candidates on accessible elections, campaign offices and communications are available on the City’s website.

The 2010 City of Barrie Municipal Election will provide an election that respects the dignity and independence of all electors while maintaining the integrity of the election process.

Who am I voting for? Residents of the City of Barrie who are eligible electors, will be voting for the offices of Mayor, one City Councillor and one School Board Trustee. • TheMayoriselectedatlargebyallelectors. • Councillorsareelectedbytheeligiblevotersofeachward-oneCouncillor for each of Barrie’s 10 wards. • SchoolBoardTrusteesareelectedbyareas,whichincludeoneormoreCity wards for the English School Boards. The board you are entitled to vote for is determinedbyyourschoolsupportstatus,asshownonthevoters’list.Theschool boards that have jurisdiction in the City of Barrie are the following:

Is my employer obliged to give me time off work so I can vote?AvoterwhosehoursofemploymentaresuchthatheorshewouldnototherwisehavethreeconsecutivehourstovoteonOctober25,2010isentitledtobeabsentfromworkforaslongasitisnecessarytoallowforthatamountoftime.Theabsenceshallbetimedtosuittheemployer’sconvenienceasmuchaspossible.Theemployershallnotmakeadeductionfortheemployee’spayorimposeanyotherpenaltyfortheabsencefromwork.Remember:youdon’tneedtowaituntilOctober25thtovote.VotingstartsonOctober20th!

What type of assistance is available to the visually impaired?
