Parkside Arts Council, serv-ing Antrim County artists, patrons of art, and art edu-cation in the community, held its first county-wide open studio tour, show-casing 10 artists, on July 18. Those visitors who par-ticipated in the tour had a chance to visit 8 different studios, to chat with the art-ists regarding their meth-ods and techniques, to view their works, and in some cases try a little hands-on experience in making art.

to canvas or paper. Stained glass art-ist, Mary Ellen Murphy, demonstrated how to cut glass and shape a design.

Day in the Life Photogra-phy Project showcases life in Antrim County

With the cliché, a “picture is worth a thousand words” in mind, Antrim County residents donned cameras for 24-hours Saturday, May 22, to help document life in Antrim County. A Day in the Life of Antrim County, a project created by the Parkside Arts Council, encouraged residents both professional photographers or ama-teurs, to photograph the daily life of our communities during the course of one day. Over 30 photographers par-ticipated and several hundred images were submitted, ranging in subjects from our watershed sys-tem, our families, and our farmers.

The project will be-come an annual event, taking place the second Saturday in May, and opening up to other art mediums. Join Park-side Arts Council in the spring of 2011 for a gal-

The mission of the Parkside Arts Council is to encourage cultural en-richment in Antrim County by pro-moting awareness, education and appreciation of the arts, and sup-porting those who do creative work.

UPDATE: “Land, Sky, and Wa-ter: Antrim County Through the Eyes of Its Artists”

We have already had a great re-sponse from Parkside Arts Council member artists for our proposed full-color book, to be entitled Land, Sky, and Water: Antrim County Through the Eyes of Its Artists, with many ex-citing submissions. But we still need more! If you have already sent in samples of your art, we thank you for your interest and participation, and we will be in contact with you as the project progresses. And if you have not yet submitted samples of your art, and you are an Antrim County artist,

please do! Parkside Arts Council is ex-tending an open in-vitation to all of its members to submit samples of their art, either visual or writ-ten (photography, painting, sculpture, craft, poetry or prose) that they feel best sums up their connection to, vi-sion of, or feelings about the Antrim County area, along

with a brief artist’s bio. For further in-formation about submission require-ments, contact Eric Klinert at 231-676-0752 or [email protected]. We look forward to working with you!

Art Festivals We held our 3rd annual Art fair at

the Bridgewalk B&B in Central Lake on Sept. 11. We had wonderful art-ists with a wide variety of work. There was a constant stream of people go-ing through.

Sadly to say Mother Nature did not co-operate all day and we were rained out. Sales were brisk until the rain came.

As usual the artists hung in there visiting and trading with each other. A good time was still had by all. Sept 10 will be next years Art Fair. Watch for info on Parksidearts.org
