Advanced Placement Courses • 14 AP course options in school district • Optional AP Exams offered in May – $87

each• Class helps prepare for the exam , but can

take exam without the class• 5 is highest score; 1 is lowest – If you earn

a 3, 4, or 5 on most exams, 90% of colleges accept this for credit

• Results sent to students and school in July• See page 11 in book for more information

• Students should remember to calculate how much time is needed for homework in AP classes

1 AP class may = 1-2 hours of homework per night

Concurrent Enrollment Program Courses (CEP)

Can apply to receive both high school and college credit for certain courses taught at area high schools. Grades go on an official high school and college transcript.

Deadline for paperwork is March 1, 2011. Can change mind about taking it for college credit 10 days into the class. Need to complete:

Application with personal statement of interest Two recommendation forms *An English and one other teacher Tuition is charged for St. Norbert’s ($180 for 3 credits)

and UWGB ($ TBD) classes. NWTC CEP courses do not require tuition. See pages 19-20 in book for more information

SCIENCE• Only need Physical Science and

Biology to graduate, but a minimum of THREE years of lab science is generally necessary for 4-year college entry (and some technical college programs).

• Conceptual Chemistry = college level science with less math for non-science majors

• Chemistry = college level science with math foundation for science-related college majors or those wanting more rigor

SCIENCE• Chemistry is

required before AP Chemistry

• Physics is not required before AP Physics

• Talk to teachers for their recommendations

Personal and Financial Literacy .5 credit

• Test out option before senior year• Offered in November of each

school year• Students must score 70% or better

to earn a “P” and not have to take the class.

• Credit is not given – only waives requirement

Physical Education - 1.5 credits over 3 years• Students MUST pass Personal Fitness

before Strength Training• If students take a year of PE, the 2nd class

will count for elective credit (unless making up a failed class)

• Students can take the same class over twice for credit (except PE 9)

• PE classes can be taken for Pass/Fail instead of a letter grade (will not be calculated into GPA). This must be chosen before the class starts. No changes after school year begins.

• Be sure to list alternative choice for phy ed on back of sheet!

Summer Physical Education• If you plan to take summer

phy ed, still sign up for a phy ed class on your sheet, but make a note you plan to take the summer option

• Also indicate what you’d like to take in place of phy ed if completed in summer

• No guarantees of being able to take summer phy ed due to space limitations

Summer School• Course information and

registration materials will arrive in late March or early April.

• Listen for announcements

• Some courses fill QUICKLY! Register early.

World Language• UW-Madison and UW-Eau Claire

require a minimum of two CONSECUTIVE years of a world language for entry

• UW-Madison prefers four years!• World language taken in middle school

and sign language count for college admission

• Check with the colleges of your choice for their requirements

• Talk to your current world language teacher for their recommendation for next year

NOTE:• Students planning

to pursue a nursing degree must have C.N.A. certification (2-hour Nursing Assistant block) prior to applying to the college

Principles of Engineering taken at East, SW, or West High will receive one credit of science elective upon successful completion (PLTW)

Retaking a Course• If you earned a “D” or

“F” in a semester of a class, courses can be retaken

• New grade will replace old one if higher

• NOTE: You cannot earn credit for the same course twice (exception is math)
