A few definitions to help you with flame-retardant terminology in

draperies…Flame-Retardant (FR)Commonly used to describe a fabric that burns but self-extinguishes rapidly when the ignition source is removed.A federal specification or voluntary standard must be ref-erenced to be meaningful.

Inherently Flame-RetardantCommonly used to describe fabrics in which yarns areformulated to be flame-resistant, then are woven intomaterial that is flame-retardant for the life of the fabric.

Intrinsically Flame-RetardantCommonly used to describe fabrics in which yarns aretreated to be flame-resistant in conjunction with the weav-ing of the material, which then is considered to be flame-retardant for the life of the fabric.
