JACKSONVILLE CONFERENCE RECAPThe Orange County Sheriff’s Office is the first recipient of the newly created “Excelsior Agency” designation. To be an Excelsior Agency, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office had to complete five CFA reaccreditations with no conditions. This new designation was created to recognize those agencies that

remain committed to state accreditation, and consistently demonstrate professional excellence in how they conduct business. A specially created framed certificate was awarded to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office for this exceptional accomplishment.

CFA is excited and pleased to announce that the Neptune Beach Police Department received its initial accreditation.

In addition, the following agencies received reaccreditation status: Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Largo Police Department, Palm Bay Police Department, Palmetto Police Department, Port Orange Police Department, Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office, Boynton Beach Police Department, Cape Coral Police Department, Collier County Sheriff’s Office, Delray Beach Police Department, and the Port St. Lucie Police Department. The Commission congratulates these

outstanding agencies on their success and commitment to a philosophy of professional excellence.

CFA has three outgoing Commissioners, Sheriff Ken Mascara, Sheriff Wendell Hall, and Sheriff Richard Nugent. We are sorry to see them go and appreciate all of the hard work they accomplished while on the Commission. The Florida Sheriff’s Association has appointed Sheriff Deryl Loar of Indian River County to replace Sheriff Mascara, and Sheriff Mike Adkinson of Walton County to replace Sheriff Hall, and Sheriff Susan Benton of Highlands County to replace Sheriff Nugent. was chaired pro tem by Commissioner Butch Arenal who did an outstanding job of managing the agenda. The Change notice can be found on our website www.flaccreditation.org.

Other Commission business included the announcement of the new web-based program, “Power Standards”, developed by Innovative Data Solutions (IDS) for clients to use in managing the accreditation process. One of the outstanding features of this new program is that it will render Florida’s accreditation programs paperless – the first in the nation! This will mean less resources used in the accreditation process, and eventually, less time for assessments. Power Standards is part of the IDS Power Suite of products.Florida Accreditation remains vigilant in researching ways in which to continue its tradition of outstanding customer service, presenting relevant and best practice standards for review, and keeping the cost of professionalism as low as possible. Many agencies new to the accreditation process recognize the value in the accreditation process and have taken first step by signing an agreement and entering into “self-assessment”. We are honored to present the following new CFA agency: Division of Inspector General, Palm Beach County Clerk and Comptroller. We congratulate and welcome this fine agency into Florida’s accreditation family. The next conference will be at the same beautiful location as last February, the Marriott Hutchinson Island in Stuart. The conference dates are January 31 – February 4, 2011.Be sure and visit the website, www.flaccreditation.org for more information on training opportunities and other pertinent information about CFA and FCAC.
