Chairman of the Peter G. Peterson

Foundation whose mission is focused

on “undeniable, unsustainable and

untouchable” threats to the nation’s

fiscal and economic future and to

future generations of Americans.

He is Chairman Emeritus and Co-

founder of The Blackstone Group,

a private investment banking firm.

He is the Chairman Emeritus of the

Council on Foreign Relations (having

served as Chairman from 1985-2007).

He is also founding Chairman of the

Peterson Institute for International

Economics (Washington, D.C.) and

founding President of The Concord

Coalition. Mr. Peterson was the Co-Chair of The Conference Board

Commission on Public Trust and Private Enterprise (Co-Chaired by John

Snow, formerly Secretary of the Treasury). He was also Chairman of the

Federal Reserve Bank of New York from 2000 to 2004.

In 1971, President Richard Nixon named Mr. Peterson Assistant to the

President for International Economic Affairs. He was named Secretary

of Commerce by President Nixon in 1972. He has been awarded honorary

PhD degrees by various universities and is the author of several books.

Mr. Peterson, who resides in New York City, is married to Joan Ganz

Cooney, and is the father of five children and nine grandchildren.

Afsaneh Mashayekhi BeschlossPresident and Chief Executive Officer, The Rock Creek Group

Ms. Beschloss is President and

Chief Executive Officer of The

Rock Creek Group. Prior to this,

Ms. Beschloss was the Treasurer

and Chief Investment Officer of

the World Bank, responsible for

managing $65 billion in assets and a

$30 billion funding strategy, as well

as $160 billion in derivatives and

structured products. In this position,

Ms. Beschloss was instrumental in

developing a $3 billion portfolio

of alternative investment funds.

Her previous responsibilities at

the World Bank included Senior

Manager of the Derivatives and

Structured Products Group and

Fixed-Income Portfolio Manager. Ms. Beschloss previously worked for J.P.

Morgan in New York and London, for Shell International Group Planning in

London, and she taught international trade at Oxford University.

Ms. Beschloss is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Ford Foundation,

where she has chaired the Investment Committee. She is a member of

the Board of Trustees of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and is on

the Investment Committee of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund. She advises

international pension funds and central banks and has written a number

of journal articles and books. She holds an MPhil (Honors) in Economics

from Oxford University.

For ten years, 100 Women in Hedge Funds has made a real difference for

women and families by providing them with resources they need for long-

term success. This year also marks a decade since I began my Foundation’s

work and I am glad we have the friendship and support of 100 Women in

Hedge Funds.

Tonight, we are calling attention to a nationwide problem: nearly one-third

of all American children and teenagers are obese or overweight. It is our

collective responsibility to reverse this epidemic. Since my Foundation

and the American Heart Association established The Alliance for a

Healthier Generation in 2005, we have helped reduce the calories in drinks

shipped to schools by 88 percent and we are working with more than

12,000 schools in all 50 states so they can offer healthier food and create

and expand fitness programs.

The Alliance is demonstrating how we can all achieve change through

partnerships and measurable commitments to action. My Clinton Global

Initiative also provides a forum for businesses, governments, and ordinary

citizens to form collaborations. Since CGI was founded, our members have

made more than 2,100 commitments, which have improved the lives of

more than 400 million people in more than 180 countries. Nearly a quarter

of these initiatives, valued at nearly $8.5 billion, address global health.

I am pleased 100 Women in Hedge Funds is helping my Foundation make

a positive impact for people around the globe. Thank you for your support

and for all the good work you do.
