The arrival of Wilderness Systems, Mad River Canoe and Infinity Inflatables has resulted in great changes for us. Our factory has grown to accommodate more products. New staff have joined our team, and more key models than ever are now made in our UK factory.

As paddlesport continues to grow so does the variety of activities that people use boats for. That’s why we support a wide range of events, organisations and influential individuals. From extreme races to country fairs, we thrive on getting out, meeting our customers and sharing our love of paddlesport with a wider audience.

Owning a kayak, canoe, sit-on-top or inflatable is now considered in the same light as, for example, owning a pushbike. In short, paddling is cool and our 2011 line looks set to continue this trend.

The Dagger line is more solid than ever. Tweaks to outfitting, colourways and our continued dedication to quality mean that classic Dagger boats like the Axiom, with its speed and style, have won many accolades.

The premium design and innovation that Wilderness Systems is famous for continues. The Tarpon remains the boat that defines the expectations of sit-on-top users. Joined last year by the award winning Commander, the possibilities for kayak fishing are further extended with a new larger capacity Commander model.

The return of founder Jim Henry into the Mad River Canoe development process has brought about new models, likely to become future classics. Further developments are sure to come from this renewed partnership and with a strong emphasis on craftsman produced products the Mad River brand continues to offer depth and quality.

Together, the Islander and Infinity brands get people on the water having fun. Islander has grown as a great beach brand suited for families and those who just want to get out and go. The Infinity line takes the increasingly popular boat in a bag concept and adds Palm’s trademark innovation and quality.

Because EXL plastic is a super-linear polymer, it is recyclable. We use our recycled plastic in outfitting items and also to manufacture our 100% recycled Fiesta model - an industry first.

All Dagger Europe kayaks are outfitted by hand. We use only the highest quality components including corrosion-free brass inserts, 100% stainless outfitting screws, nuts and bolts. SKEGS AND RUDDERS

Most Dagger Europe touring and recreation kayaks feature rudders or drop-down skegs. Rudders allow you to steer the kayak by pushing on the foot brace pedals and making it much easier to turn long, fast touring boats. Drop-down skegs are designed to assist paddling in a straight line. Both options allow you to concentrate on your forward paddling without worrying about keeping the boat straight.

HATCHES

WoodTo many, there’s nothing like a wood gunwaled canoe and Mad River’s always been known for the quality workmanship in our wood gunwales. Crafted of native white ash specially selected for long, straight, tight grain providing strength, stiffness, and a touch of flex. Periodic maintenance required. Choice of natural or dark walnut finish.

Aluminium (for Royalex)Designed to minimize weight and maximize efficiency in select cruising Royalex canoes such as the Reflection 15 and 17. Light to moderate in weight and high stiffness. Minimal maintenance.

Royalex RXRoyalex is a vacuum-formed sheet laminate consisting of external vinyl layers enclosing multiple ABS plastic layers and a foam core. Not all Royalex is the same. Each canoe is made of a specific Royalex sheet designed for the intended use of that canoe. Royalex is very resistant to impact and its moderate weight makes it the preferred material for paddlers wanting to balance durability and weight in demanding conditions. It has memory, allowing it to distort to absorb impact and then rebound to original form after pressure is relieved. Royalex is repairable should the worst-case scenario ever occur.

PolyethyleneSingle solid layer of linear high-density polyethylene is used exclusively in our economically priced Adventure 14+16s. Polyethylene has excellent abrasion and impact resistance but if unsupported is too flexible for efficient paddling. Rather than simply put a reinforcing pole down the center of the hull we opted to integrate the hull and deck structure to provide the necessary rigidity and gain the strength available in a uni-body style construction. The result is a very tough and virtually maintenance free hull at a very modest price. Weight is comparable to TT hulls.

Triple ToughTM TT

Mad River’s proprietary polyethylene skin/foam/skin hull material produces a tough, durable, maintenance-free, value-priced hull. Foam core provides integral flotation and stiffness. High density linear polyethylene skins provide superior impact protection and are repairable. TT hulls average about 15–20% heavier than Royalex and offer similar performance characteristics.

KEVLAR® KX

Mad River’s been building canoes of Kevlar aramid fibre longer than anyone else. We know it well. With tensile strength 5 times that of steel, Kevlar’s got a lot going for it. Mad River combine the best attributes of Kevlar with a blend of fibreglass, graphite and core materials. The result is the most durable canoes pound per pound available.

Shallow V-hull

HULL CROSS SECTION

To visualize this aspect of canoe design, think about bisecting the canoe from side to side. The hull can impact canoe performance in a number of ways, from stability to maneuverability to speed. Canoes usually feature one of three hull cross sections: Flat, Shallow Arch, and Shallow V. Note that both Shallow Arch and V can vary in terms of degree or angle.

GUNWALES AND WEIGHT

Your choice of gunwales will affect the final weight of your canoe. This is one of the reasons Mad River provides so many gunwale options to choose from. Weights in this catalog reflect canoes outfitted with either vinyl or wood gunwales. If lightest possible weight is your priority, opt for canoes with conventional aluminium gunwales.

KEEL LINE

A canoe’s keel line is the profile of the hull bottom running from stem to stem, best seen by standing back and viewing the canoe from the side. The keel line can range from straight or level to highly arched or rockered (think of the runner on bottom of a rocking chair). We classify canoes that have less than 2” of rocker as slightly rockered. Models with rocker ranging from 2” to 3” are considered moderately rockered and those with over 3” of rocker as extremely rockered.

MAD RIVER CANOE FEATURES

Islander’s range of beach sit-on-tops come ready to paddle and are easily upgradeable, with a large range of accessories to fine-tune your sit-on-top for surfing, cruising or fishing.

ThighstrapsThighstraps are used to hold your legs and give you something to pull against, increasing your boat control. Fitted via D ring attachment points and non corroding brass clips they are fully adjustable and contoured for fit. The thigh straps can also double as a shoulder strap for carrying the sit-on-top

Surf backrestThis low profile backrest is constructed from thermoformed foam with a reinforced back section and features a zipped pocket for storage. It attaches to the deck of the boat via D ring attachment points and corrosion resistant brass clips, mounted at four points for stability. The seat angle can be adjusted via webbing straps for user comfort and fit.

ISO ApprovedAll Infinity inflatables are produced and tested to the ISO 6185-1 standard. This means that our products have met criteria which includes testing for material structure and wear. Floatation under load and in the event of puncture, plus ease of operation and instructions. The TUV test procedure also requires that the production facility is at a required standard ensuring consistency of quality.

Multi-Chamber HullInfinity inflatable kayaks feature reinforced PVC floatation chambers. These chambers provide shape and structure to the kayak, setting the rocker, chine profile and draft. When inflated, they also stiffen the hull to prevent sagging. Because the kayaks contain separate chambers with their own inflation valves, should one chamber puncture, the craft will still stay afloat.

Ergonomic Inflatable SeatsThe Odyssey series of Infinity inflatable kayaks feature ergonomically engineered inflatable seats with supportive, adjustable, padded backrests. The seats have inflation valves positioned so they can be orally inflated and deflated without leaving the seat. By varying the amount of air, the height and comfort can be fine tuned. The backrest is high and supportive and can be adjusted for comfort. The seats are easily configured for various occupants and can be removed with ease.

Child SeatsSmaller child seats are also available. They are inflatable for comfort and feature a low, comfortable backrest. When placed in front of the adult paddler, the backrest is also suitable for use as a footrest by the adult paddler to increase paddling efficiency and comfort.

StorageMany Islander sit-on-tops feature storage hatches built into the hull. Usefull for storing items such as food, spare clothes or fishing gear, they are dry sealed. Using either screw lids, with internal store bag or rubber gasket push fit they are located in the seat or fore deck of the boats. Attached via cord to prevent loss of lids. Some boats also come equipped with storage tankwells. Items (best stored in waterproof dry bags) can be secure into these areas using the elastic securing lines attached to the boats.

Dagger/Islander kayaksDagger Europe kayaks and fitted accessories/lslander kayaks and fitted accessories are guaranteed for three (3) years from the date of consumer purchase based on the coverage levels detailed below. The guarantee is only valid to the original retail purchaser (Consumer) against defects in material and workmanship. If a product is found to be defective before or during use due to a manufacturing failure, Dagger Europe/Islander Kayaks will repair or replace at our discretion the defective part.

During the first year of ownership, this warranty covers repair or replacement of the hull, deck, outfitting, and all parts and accessories at 100% of the original purchase price. During the second year of ownership, this warranty covers repair or replacement of the hull and deck at up to 80% of the original purchase price. During the third year, this warranty covers repair or replacement of the hull and deck up to 60% of the original purchase price.

Wilderness Systems For the original retail purchaser (Consumer), Wilderness Systems kayaks provide a lifetime warranty against material or manufacturing defects in the hull and deck. Parts, accessories, and outfitting are warranted for a period of one (1) year against material or manufacturing defects from the date of purchase.

Mad River Canoe For the original retail purchaser (Consumer), Mad River Canoe provide a lifetime warranty against material or manufacturing defects in the hull and deck. Parts, accessories, and outfitting (including gunwales) are warranted for a period of one (1) year against material or manufacturing defects from the date of purchase.
