I enjoy all of the MS personnel that run off the event, as well as meeting fun people that have raised so much money to help people with MS. What is your connection to MS? I didn't know anyone with MS when I started riding in the BPMS 150. I did it as a challenge to see if I could ride all of the way from Houston to Austin. Since then I have learned that I know people who have MS, that I never knew before. What motivates you? Competition Motives me, as well as helping other people. I played basketball and tennis in high school, went to college on a basketball scholarship, and was lucky enough to play on many United States basketball teams and travel over ther world. I usually do a bunch of the training rides, but my schedule and my friends’ schedules didn't conincide and I don't like to ride along. I plan to do the Hotter'n Hell Hundred in August. What is your favorite ride and why? The BPMS 150 ride is my favorite by far, because of the people and the fun I have raising money. Are you active in any other organizations? If so, which ones? I am active with my QuickBooks Consulting, and belong to business groups related to that. Did you use social media in your fundraising efforts this year? If so, how? Yes, for the first time, but I didn't really have time to learn how to use it effectively. Maybe some of the people on the trip can help me. Next year I want to do a lot better job at this. I think at times we all wonder what life is all about and what our purpose is?, why we weren't born into different circumstances?, why we are so lucky?, why not me?,etc. While I don't have any of those answers, my motivation comes from an understanding that I am indeed very fortunate and that perhaps my real purpose is to help other people that can't quite help themselves. No, but need to. I do worry that this gets overused though. I think we need to be mindful that multiple requests every week tend to make all of them get ignored. Seeing old friends, making new acquaintances, and enjoying camaraderie with all the fabulous people who support the MS movement. What is your connection to MS? Working at the Society has given me the opportunity to meet many wonderful people who live with MS. In 2000, my sister was diagnosed with MS but thankfully she's doing very well. I do not believe in coincidences; there is a purpose for everything. What motivates you? Ever since I was a little girl I have wanted to figure out my purpose and make a difference. As an adult, I've figured out that I am just a piece of clay on a potter's wheel, being molded and shaped every day. Sometimes I get inpatient and I want to get off and do my own thing. It's not easy to sit still and be molded. I've learned that it's not about pleasing myself or pleasing others that counts. I desire to be motivated to serve others. Does your bike have a nickname? If so, what is it? In 1999, someone walked into the Society office and donated an unusual hybrid bike to me called "the Hop." I rode that bike to Austin in 2004 and turned lots of heads! My father was a public servant and proudly served as the Mayor of Englewood, Ohio, a small town outside of Dayton in the mid-70's.
