Don’t hide yourcharm — or crazy
“I think the No. 1quality of a good reali-ty star is that they’re aType A personality;they’re willing to dis-cuss everythingthey’re thinking inthe moment,” says TVcritic Andy Dehnart, who writes about reality TV atRealityBlurred.com.“The best reality starsare not introspective, quiet people, becausethat doesn’t translatewell to TV.”
Be yourself, but a camera-friendlyversion of youAs the founder of theNew York Reality TVSchool, Robert Galin-sky trains wannabe re-ality stars how to ap-peal to castingdirectors. But his ses-sions aren’t so muchabout creating a char-acter as they are aboutmaking your own per-sonality camera-ready.“You need to wear iton your sleeve, but itneeds to be true,” hesays. “Audiences aregetting smarter.”

Premiering April26 on Spike TV, “Re-po Games” surpris-es contestantswhose cars areabout to be repos-sessed with a high-stakes trivia game:If they answer cor-rectly, the showpays off their car. Ifnot, it’s off to theimpound lot.
It’s a seriousgamble as far as thecasting, but produc-er Sally Ann Salsanois used to the risk— “Jersey Shore” isanother one of herprojects.
“I think it worksbecause it’s honestand it’s real —those kids would bedoing this whetherI was there with mycamera or not,” shesays of casting“Shore.” “I think atthis point, the audi-ence can callbulls—.”

Have a story ...Four-time Emmy win-ner Terence Noonan isconstantly pitchedshows — hint: Thereis no room for “thenext Paula Deen” —but he discovered thestars of his TLC show“DC Cupcakes” whenhe stopped in theirbakery. And it wasn’tthe phenomenal but-tercream that soldhim: “There was thisstory of sisterhood, giving up your jobsand taking a chance —as a producer, I’m al-ways looking for a sto-ry,” he says.
... And then stickwith that story
Once you’ve landedthe gig, you need tokeep doing what gotyou on TV in the firstplace.
“If you want to beon a reality show, nev-er stop doing thething that got you areality show,” advisesNoonan. “Don’t thinkyou’re ever too goodfor the cupcakes —you can’t be too goodfor the cupcakes.”
So you want to be a reality star?
We’re notsaying the worldneeds anotherone Just thatif you must, youmay as well befun to watch
The first wristbandsfor Thursday’s “X-Factor” auditions inNew Jersey were dis-

With that many peoplelooking to get discoveredon reality TV — or just be acringe-worthy clip in theouttakes — it’s tough toland a spot on even the B-team shows.
We checked in with theexperts to see how those ofus who aren’t Top Chefs canscore a little camera time.

“You’ve got to be acharacter. You haveto be memorable.Think about‘American Idol’ —most of the timeyou remember thestory, you don’tremember thesong. I’m alwayslooking for peoplewho are a little bitoff-beat, a little bitleft-of-center, thebest version ofthemselves.”TERENCE NOONAN

But don’t apply to everyshow, every season, warnsDehnart.
“One of the reasons
‘Survivor’ recruits peoplenow is because they get alot of the same applica-tions again and again,”he says. “Most shows arenot going to be interestedin someone like that —they want someone who isinterested in the show andwhat they’re doing, notjust fame.”

Despite how successful the“Scream” franchise hasbeen for her, Neve Camp-bell hasn’t become an oldpro at watching horrormovies.
“I usually cover my eyesand scream and cry duringhorror films,” she admits.
But just because her eyesare covered doesn’t meanshe isn’t enjoying herself.“These films are a roller-coaster ride,” she says of the“Scream” films. “I thinkthey’re great fun to watch.”
They’re just as much funto make, she insists, andfilming “Scream 4” lastsummer was no different.“We were having fun dur-ing the filming,” she says ofreteaming with David Ar-quette, Courteney Cox anddirector Wes Craven. “We
would often just go andhave dinner and a nice glassof wine and have somelaughs, so even during ityou’re not feeling like it’sthis really intense experi-ence or dark experience, be-cause there’s a lot of humorin these films as well. Youcan’t take them incrediblyseriously. Part of the fun ofthese is that they’re so self-referential and make fun ofthemselves.”
And while working withCox and Arquette again wasa treat, Campbell was par-ticularly impressed withher younger co-stars, in-cluding franchise newcom-ers Hayden Panettiere andEmma Roberts: “Courteneyand I looked at each otherand were like, ‘We could betheir mothers,’” Campbellsays with a laugh. “But theywere good. They came withso much enthusiasm to theproject. People keep askingwhether we had to showthem the ropes, and they’reprofessionals. ... They’vehad long careers already atyoung ages, and they camein and they did a great job.”
Neve Campbell is back for more thrills in ‘Scream 4’ But the scariestpart is aging: ‘We could be their mothers’ she says of her young co-stars
It’s been a while,SidneyThough a decade and ahalf have passed since“Scream” — and 11years since “Scream 3”— it didn’t take Camp-bell long to get back inthe groove. “It’s been15 years now we’vebeen doing these char-acters, so not difficultto jump into. I had funwatching the filmsagain before we startedthis, just to get a senseof it, and it was reallynice to see that they stillhold up really well.”

‘Rio’Director: Carlos SaldanhaCast: Jesse Eisenberg, AnneHathaway, George LopezRating: PGGrade:
In “Rio,” nerd actor du jourJesse Eisenberg plays —what else — a nerdy birdyfrom small-town Minnesotanamed Blu. The domesticat-ed macaw has neverlearned to fly, but enjoys ahappy and healthy life withhis owner and BFF Linda(Leslie Mann). When theydiscover the last remainingfemale blue macaw (voicedby Anne Hathaway) in theworld lives in Rio deJaneiro, they make the jour-ney to find her, but theirtrip doesn’t go as planned.
“Rio” has an OK storyand fine animation, but itreally lacks the depth of a
Pixar film. It’s perfectlyserviceable; it’s colorful andfilled with nice little touch-es, like a little bird whowarms himself against atraffic light, flitting back-and-forth between the redand green lights in thesnow. But even with all ofthe good stuff, it isn’t partic-ularly memorable. It’ll keep
the little ones occupied inthe theater — althoughvery little kids may findsome of the action a bit toointense — and has somegood messages, but there’sno real sticky content here.
Bird in paradiseWhile it’s colorful and mildly entertaining, ‘Rio’
doesn’t have the depth of a classic animated film

Your sweet’n’ salty fix
For your next party, giveyour cheese plate a springupdate by adding honey tothe mix. It’s a combo madein culinary heaven. “It’s really, really hard to make abad honey-and-cheese pair-ing, because you’re ulti-mately just doing salty andsweet,” assures cheese ex-pert Louise Geller of NewYork’s Murray’s Cheese. Shepicks her favorite honey-and-cheese pairings:
Fresh chevre with spring hon-
ey: These are both so lightand fresh, it’s like eatingthe springtime.La Tur with honeycomb: Thispairing has everything:tang, decadence, syrupysweetness and five tex-tures.Stilton with cherry honey:
Blue cheese begs to betamed by sweetness, and acherry honey makes for anatural partnership.
Slice, drizzle and serve: Springentertaining just got sweeter with aheavenly cheese-and-honey pairing Meet cheese’s new BFF.

It’s pretty obvious thatthe 2009-10 C’s and the2010-11 C’s weren’t builtfor the regular season.Heck, half these guys arestarting to plan their 40thbirthday parties.
Shaquille O’Neal, blesshis soul, has participatedin more charitable eventsthan basketball games thisseason.
But now, it matters. They flipped the switchlast year. Why can’t theydo it again?
“I think this is what ourguys have been playing forall year,” Celtics coach DocRivers said after Wednes-day night’s final regular-season game. “You know, when you lose a Game 7 itsticks with you, and that’s
very difficult to get backthrough the regular seasonbecause the whole seasonyou’re thinking about,‘Gosh, we’ve got to gothrough 82 of these just to
have a chance go get backto where we were at lastyear.’ And now all that partis gone.
“And now we can starttrying to get back to, andfinish the job.”
Jeff Green wasn’t part oflast year’s team thatturned it around in theplayoffs, but he knows allabout it. He’s also getting ataste of it now.
“I mean, that’s whatthese guys have been do-ing the last few years,”Green said.
“When the playoffscome and the lights are onthey find a way to win; andthat’s what we’re going todo.
“I think a lot of peoplehave been kind of puttingus on the back burner andsaying we don’t have whatit takes anymore. But Ithink we’re going to showa lot of people that we do.”
