    Choral Ensemble Camp

    Sunday, June 10 - Saturday, June 16, 2012

**Please note that we now have a waiting list for Sopranos** You shouldnt have to choose between a camp that will help you advance your solo performance versus acamp that develops your choral skills. At our Choral Ensemble Camp, campers have the ability to work on

both. Campers study with FSU faculty in a large mixed choir, a womens or mens choir, and a variety ofsmall ensembles designed to provide ensemble experience with personal attention. Campers will take twodaily elective classes allowing them to explore something new such as diction, conducting, or choral theory. All students will also take part in a music-theatre style finale performance - a dancing and singingextravaganza that concludes the Friday evening concert! Private voice lessons and an elite Chamber Choirare also available to a limited number of campers by audition. (audition information will be posted at a laterdate).

Daily Classes focus on sight reading, theory, diction and repertoire. The subjects taught in these classes givestudents a great head start if they are planning to apply for a collegiate music program. A sample dailyschedule has been provided below.

In addition, students will select two elective classes to broaden their experience. A full listing of electiveclass descriptions can be found byclicking here. Students will be sent information about selecting an

elective class after they are registered. All elective classes are filled on a first-come, first-serve(d) basis.

Small Ensemble assignments are done by the instructors and are based on various criteria including voiceparts, gender, age, number of years at camp, and others. Though all students will be in a small ensemble, there are four ensembles which they may elect to be considered for but that are very limited & very popular. These popular ensembles are the Show Choir, Mixed Madrigals, Treble Ensemble, and the Men's Ensemble. These popular ensembles are difficult to get into because of their size. For example, there is only one ShowChoir and it is made up of 20 students - 5 altos, 5 sopranos, 5 tenors, and 5 basses - but there are over 100students at camp. Campers will be sent a form after they are registered where they can indicate if they wantto be considered for one of these four ensembles. Our instructors will make the assignments based on theserequests.

In the evenings, students can participate in recreational activities such as bowling, swimming, movie nights, ice cream socials, and game nights. Official recreation schedules are handed out at camp check-in, but you

can click here for a sample schedule.

This camp offers private lessons to a few select students based on an audition. Auditions for private lessonsand the Chamber Choir take place on check-in day only. Students who are unable to arrive at camp duringthe designated check-in times will not be able to audition. Selected students will receive lessons during thecourse of the week and prepare a piece to perform at the Solo Recital on Thursday evening. There is no costfor the lessons if you are selected. Detailed information can be foundhereand will also be provided in theParent & Camper Handbook.
