Why might this information important?

It provides overview of basic background

2. Drawing content – Plans - What type of information is shown in this floor plan?

Ø Different floor material (e.g. Bluestone, concrete etc)

Ø The division of the area into rooms and their purpose.( e.g. Band room/ Stage, Courtyard, Verandah etc)

Ø Types of door (e.g. single swing door, sliding door etc) and the direction of it when it is opened & Stage of work of the windows.

- Why is some information found in General Notes?

Making sure the accuracy of the drawing.

- What is the purpose of the legend?

The legend is the illustration of the symbols on the plan. So

people can refer to the legend when encounter these symbols in

order to get a better understanding of the plan.

- Why are some parts of the drawing annotated? Illustrate how

the annotations are associated with the relevant part of the

drawing.

The annotation is the explanation of certain section.

This annotation illustrates the

material that is used for the stairs.

- Illustrate how the locations of sections are identified on the

plan. What of these symbols mean?

The arrow of this symbol gives you the

direction of where to look.

- Illustrate how references to other drawings are shown on the plan.

What do these symbols mean?

If you want to see the detail structure of this

section in the direction which the arrow is

pointed towards, referring to B part on

drawing # A 402

- Illustrates how floor levels are noted on the plan?

They are noted on the Title of the plan.

- Are some areas of the drawing clouded?

Yes. Clouding area means adjustment needs to be made in

this area.

- How are windows and doors identified? Provide and example of each.

Is there a rationale to their numbering? What do these number

mean? Can you find the answer somewhere in the drawing?

3. Drawing content – Elevations

- What type of information is shown in this elevation? How does it differ from the information shown on the plan?

The elevation shows a zoom-in version of a small part of the plan. It provides a more comprehensive and detailed information particular

to that section.

The information that is shown in this elevation is height, existing footing system and windows as well as doors。

- Are dimension shown? If so, how do they differ from the dimensions on the plan? Provide an example of the dimensions as they relate

to the elevation.

Yes, it is shown on the top of the section,

connected by dotted lines.  

- Is there a legend? What does it identify and how is it used?

Yes, there is a legend. It identifies the material that is used for certain parts.

And gives a detailed illustration for the codes which are on the plan.

- What types of information on the elevations are expressed using words?

Illustrate how this is done.

The information expressed using words illustrates the

material, which is used for that part as well as the

status of that structure, whether it is built or remain

unchanged or for later stage of work.

- Any parts of the elevation clouded? Why?

Yes, changes need to be made.

- Illustrate where this elevation is located in

relation to the plan?

North elevation A – F represents the appearance

of the building by looking from north direction

within the range of A – F on the plan.

4. Drawing content – Sections - The types of information shown on the section and how does it different from the information shown on the plan and elevation?

Section: shows detail information for a particular section, its dimension, material used and the structure of that section

Elevation: the appearance of the building viewing from different perspectives

Plan: overview of the entire building

- Are dimensions shown? If so, how do they differ from the dimensions on the elevation?

Yes, dimensions are shown. Sections show a more detailed dimension of the components of the building, such as the dimension of doors

and windows, whereas elevation does not show these features.

Different types of material, its size (by referring to member schedule), function and position

- Are the details compressed using break lines? Why?

- Provide examples of how different materials are shown on drawings at this scale. Find the locations of these details on the plans, elevations

and sections.
