Season

A Grand BeginningOn February 12 1925 two of Lancasterrsquos most prominent businessmen J R and S G Haselden opened the doors of ldquoThe Grandrdquo The enthralled opening night guests raved ldquoSpectacular a Kentucky Showplacerdquo Six beautiful chandeliers crafted using actual parts from Model T Fords and illuminated with 277 lights adorned the main auditorium Four elaborately furnished boxes that comfortably accommodated 36 perched in luxury above the 750-seat auditorium The Haseldens theatrical connoisseurs with a penchant for New Yorkrsquos Broadway invested the then extravagant sum of $40000 to build and equip The Grand The sparkling new theatre fulfilled their vision of creating a gem in Central Kentucky Lancaster embraced The Grand and it became a regional theatre that featured the latest movies including serials comedies and westerns The bill of fare also offered stage shows and vaudeville acts On Saturday nights it was standing room only for late-comers

Today the Lancaster Grand vision has been re-animated by history and civic-minded benefactors Through painstaking planning and efforts The Grand has been preserved and restored to itrsquos glory as a living part of Kentucky history Itrsquos previous architectural and visual grandeur has been integrated with technological advancements to make it a state-of-the-art performing arts center This inaugural season is just the beginning of a long parade of world-class entertainment that will come to the heart of Central Kentucky The Grand truly comes to life again in the eyes and ears of a new generation

Lee Crusersquos Kentucky Comedy TourLee Cruse has become the gold standard for comedy in the Bluegrass and beyond He has been making Kentuckians laugh through radio plus Lexingtonrsquos 1 morning television program on WLEX-TV for over a decade Lee took his talents to the stage in 1995 to become a stand-up comic His self deprecating style and sarcasm is biting without any vulgarity

Lee headlines the evening and brings the winners of the Comedy Off-Broadway competition to the Lancaster Grand Winner Joe Saleem and two finalists Kyle Kimball and David Williams will join Lee onstage as they bring out the laughter in all of us A fun time for the entire family

Riders In The SkySince 1977 Riders In The Sky has faithfully tended a musical tradition kindled by singing cowboy legends such as Gene Autry and the Sons Of The Pioneers A group that began with a commitment to carry on an American musical tradition has after two decades itself become a national treasure with more than 4000 shows 200 national TV appearances 200 public radio shows 23 million miles on the road three television series and dozens of albums down the trail

The group reached a whole new generation of listeners with its performance on the soundtrack for Disneyrsquos Toy Story 2 garnering Riders their first Grammy Award in 2001 for ldquoBest Musical Album for Childrenrdquo Two years later Riders roped their second Grammy in the same category for ldquoMonsters Inc - Scream Factory Favoritesrdquo the companion CD to Pixarrsquos award winning movie
