The plant is similar to that of a Brussels sprout but forms open rosettes up the stem to a frilly leaved top. The rosettes are the Flower Sprouts® and look like tiny cabbages with flashes of purple, edged with green frilly leaves.

It crops in the UK from November until March.

Flower Sprout® the brand new and unique vegetable

Flower Sprout® was developed to meet the demands of the modern domestic kitchen:

Ease of preparation: A quick rinse before cooking.

Versatile: Flower Sprout® can be steamed, stir-fried, roasted, microwaved or boiled.

Great Flavour: Flower Sprout® is much more milder and sweeter than Brussels Sprouts. It has a distinct nutty flavour and is great as a stand alone vegetable or can be used within more complex recipes.

ForewordA Local MultinationalWhen Mr Arthur Tozer and dr dermot dawson commenced their business relationship in the early 1940’s it would have been hard to imagine that 70 years later their little Cobham based venture would have blossomed into one of the world’s leading independent vegetable breeding companies. In those faraway days the Tozer Seeds market place was the home counties of England and our principal customer’s market gardeners whose produce was sold through regional wholesale markets.Today our customers are as likely to grow in the Salinas Valley of California as in the Thames Valley, in Murcia as in Evesham or the Loire as in Lincolnshire.Despite a rapidly changing business environment; our core values of innovation and quality are as relevant today as they have always been and as relevant in the rest of the world as in the U.K. Products borne from this philosophy such as celery Monterey, Parsnip Javelin, lettuce Ashbrook and onion Guardsman have become market leading cultivars throughout the world.Tozer Seeds have a richly deserved reputation for niche breeding, for seeing new opportunities and possibilities, for exploiting and setting trends. This ‘out of the box’ thinking has given rise to products such as Flower Sprout®, Wild Rockets, Dragons Tongue® & Wildfire®; Runner Bean Moonlight and Cavolo Nero Black Magic. All of which are finding their way onto supermarket shelves and into retailers around the globe.Over the decades Tozer Seeds has evolved into a truly multinational business. Our U.S. subsidiary Tozer Seeds America LLC based in Santa Maria, California distributes Tozer Seeds bred products throughout the U.S.A., Canada and Mexico. Our Spanish subsidiary Tozer Iberica SLU based in the Murcia region of Spain markets our products directly to growers throughout the Iberian Peninsula. Elsewhere we have long

standing relationships with seed companies and distributors ensuring that our products have the maximum possible exposure and support. To service our customers in the UK and throughout the world we are continually investing in plant breeding, product development, quality control warehousing and distribution.During the past 12 months we have invested in new glass houses at our Surrey HQ and on the South Coast of England, commenced breeding work in California, implemented a new web based product development system and started the erection of an additional 1000 sq. m climate controlled warehousing.Throughout the world we work closely with seed technology companies such as GTG Germains & Incotec to ensure that our customers have access to leading edge priming, pelleting and coating products.Whether you are producing pumpkins for your farm shop in Cornwall or Maine, celery for a multiple in Cambridgeshire or California or lettuce in Melbourne or Murcia our aim is to give you world class products and a world class service.I would like to thank our customers and collaborators everywhere for your continued support and pledge that we will work tirelessly to bring new, exciting and relevant products to the market!Danke, Merci, Dekuju, Kiitos, Obrigado, Efcharisto, Grazie, Agrigato, Spasibo, Dzieki, Sha sha, Gracias, Dank U zeer and THANK YOU.

The results of many years of breeding are now starting to show and seed is available for trial. Market standards require leeks to have a dark green, robust thin leaf, accompanied with easy to peel leaves and bulb free shanks.

Graded leek seed, Polymer coated or pelleted (with incorporated thiram) will be available for most varieties; ForceTM may be added to control bean seed fly and onion fly if requested.

AlliumsONI 60 eiffel*A white Lisbon type but with distinctive stiff upright leaves which shed water very effectively, making Eiffel less susceptible to disease at difficult times of the season. Slow to bulb, especially in the long days of summer. A very versatile variety, which although predominantly for spring and summer production, will overwinter with careful crop husbandry. An ideal companion for Ramrod, especially during the summer cropping period.

ONI 225 Ramrod*A distinct Tozer Seeds salad onion which has proved itself in the marketplace. Very versatile, being used for both spring and autumn production. Ramrod is also winter hardy, making it a good variety for drilling in the autumn. Additionally, it can be used for producing larger, bolder type salad onions, especially if overwintered and left to develop in the early spring. Very popular and a superb stablemate to Eiffel.

ONI 10 White Lisbon* Original variety for the salad onion market. Still widely used for a range of applications to back up the more specialised varieties. Our stock of this White Lisbon is always well received by growers.

ONI 50 White Lisbon – Winter Hardy A mid-season variety that matures from November, this variety also has the flexibility to hold in the field in good conditions until late winter due to its hardiness/robustness.

ONI 106 ApacheAttractive and versatile red skinned variety with mild flavour and crisp texture. Apache has been developed to satisfy the market demand for a red salad onion which is vibrant and also peels easily. For spring, summer and autumn production.

OnionSalad VarietiesTozer Seeds are continuing to develop new salad onion varieties in the A. cepa, A. fistulosum and the interspecific species. A. cepa varieties such as ramrod, eiffel and the red apache have proven to provide growers with reliable crops. Our aim is to further develop an improved Guardsman and increase the assortment of A. fistulosum varieties in the near future.

Allium cepa VarietiesA. cepa Varieties have more leaves and are less pungent than A. fistulosum types. They can be grown past the traditional salad onion stage to produce a small bulb onion.

Allium fistulosum VarietiesA. fistulosum Varieties are non-bulbing and more pungent than the A. cepa types.

A. cepa x fistulosum varietyONI 30 Guardsman*A very distinct and innovative variety from the Tozer Seeds breeding programme. Guardsman combines the non-bulbing qualities of A. fistulosum varieties and the reduced pungency qualities of A. cepa types. A vigorous root system helps to maintain the strong, upright, dark blue-green leaves which make this variety not only suitable for the summer cropping period, but also ideal for autumn crops when disease can be a particular problem.

A. fistulosum varietiesONI 200 SentryA tall, non-bulbing variety, which has been grown successfully for many years. Sentry is recognised as a versatile salad onion, suitable for summer and autumn crops.

ONI 105 Summer Isle*A Japanese salad onion selected by Tozer Seeds for summer and autumn production. Summer Isle has a sweet flavour and lower pungency giving it more consumer appeal. Good green colour and very upright habit.

NEW Flower Sprout®

Flower Sprout® is a brand new vegetable, a cross between a Brussels sprout and kale. The plant is similar to that of a Brussels sprout but forms open rosettes up the stem to a frilly leaved top. The rosettes are the Flower Sprouts and look like tiny cabbages with flashes of purple, edged with green frilly leaves. It crops in the UK from November until March.

In Order of maturity:

NEW BRO 121 Tz 7037 F1 – FOR TRIALThis variety has been outstanding for the often difficult late autumn cropping period of October and November, however from sequential sowings it can be cropped from late July onwards. The colour, yield and stem qualities of this variety make it an excellent choice.

BRO 65 Red Admiral F1Our first hybrid introduction, Red Admiral is best suited to cropping in the important mid November to end December cropped window. The vigorous plants produce prolific high quality spears with small heads ideal for the premium pre-pack market. The spears are medium sized, dark purple and have excellent texture and flavour. Red Admiral can be cropping over a reasonably long period and will yield average weights of 200-300g per plant depending upon time of year, location and season.

BRO 105 Red Fire F1 Tz 5055This outstanding winter hardy variety produces uniform, erect plants which mature from the end of January to start of March depending upon the sowing date and location. The stems are easy to pick with excellent colour and medium to large heads with 8-15cm stem diameter. It is generally best programmed for one main pick with a follow-up secondary pick after 10 days giving average yields of 300-350g per plant. Therefore we would suggest at least two sowings to extend the cropping period of this excellent variety.

BRO 75 RudolphBred to perform well in the September to February period but is at its best from November to February. Produces good sized spears ideal for fresh market sales and prepack. Plants are large framed and suit fertile, heavy soil types.

BRO 117 Summer PurpleSummer Purple was bred for summer/autumn production, cropping late June to October depending upon sowing date, season and the location. A versatile variety with large frame and good yields over a long cropping period.

BRO 100 Cardinal

BRO 15 Red Arrow

White SproutingBRO 90 White EyeThis Tozer Seeds selection produces excellent white spears early in the season. Crops February to March.

BRO 35 White StarOur own reselected stock to give quality spears in the April / May period.

BroccoliPurple SproutingTozer Seeds have an extensive range of purple sprouting broccoli and have now released a range of new hybrids to cover the UK cropping season. Areas of focus for our breeding programme include developing varieties for the challenging start (June) and end May/June of the UK cropping season and ensuring that the new varieties produce high yields of excellent quality stems. As well as trialling new varieties in the UK we have wide-spread trials in Europe and America.

CeleryCEL 55 Victoria F1The UK’s market leader for early and mid-season celery production. Mid green colour, tall with fleshy petioles. This quick growing hybrid has good standing ability, is slow to bolt from early plantings and performs well under difficult spring conditions. Victoria is one of the best flavoured celery varieties available.

NEW CEL 151 Nero F1 Tz 6029This is our newest introduction for early and main season cropping to run alongside Victoria. Extensive UK trials over the past 4 seasons have shown this variety to be quick to mature and gain weight early in the season and often slower to bolt than Victoria. With similar colour and texture to Victoria as well as excellent eating qualities and we believe this variety will be a great addition to our range.

CEL 80 Spartacus F1Mid green hybrid for field use, tall with slightly ribbed to smooth petioles. Heavy yielding with good standing ability and excellent flavour. Early to mid-season production.

CEL 125 Monterey F1This variety performs well in Southern Europe and is the market leading variety in Spain. It is a dark green vigorous variety. Attractive, very fleshy tight sticks hold well in the UK in autumn.

NEW CEL 117 Titus F1 Tz 9778We have introduced Titus TZ 9778 specifically for the faster growing season where field holding ability is extremely important, it also performs well in the main and late season maturity slots. In trials Titus TZ 9778 has been found to hold for 10-18 days after reaching maturity as well as having excellent long smooth petioles ideal for the ‘stick’ or pre-pack markets.

CEL 110 Granada F1Dark green hybrid. Strong vigour, produces heavy, tight sticks with good presentation. Best for cool season September onwards.

tozer Seeds developed the world’s first commercial F1 hybrid celery varieties and now lead the world in celery varietal development. The focus of our breeding programme is very closely linked to the needs of the various international end-market requirements. We breed for yield, resistance to bolting, good flavour, field holding ability and disease resistance. Two recent introductions, which have performed exceptionally well in UK trials, are Nero (TZ 6029) and Titus (TZ 9778).Our expertise and breeding work are now truly international; we have varieties tailored to production and market preference around the world.

Root

38

F1 Hybrid VarietiesPNP 172 Gladiator F1Gladiator presents a refined regular obovate root shape with white skin and strong resistance to root canker. It is very early bulking and is ideal for lifting through to late autumn in the UK.

PNP 173 Javelin F1Consistent, reliable, flexible and very well proven. Javelin is probably the most commercially successful parsnip variety ever. Javelin produces an obtriangular slender wedge shaped root; ideal for the pre-pack market. Shallow to level crowns make for easy cleaning and the skin appearance is white to very light cream in colour with excellent canker resistance. Javelin can be sown throughout the sowing year and its tremendous field holding capacity means it can be cropped almost continually from July to June.

PNP 190 Albion F1Albion has a very white skin finish which is noticeably slow to discolour. Roots are of an obovate shape which taper nicely, filling well down the root length making it suitable for retail trade and also popular for processing. Albion produces heavy yields and is suitable for early to main season sowing with lifting from autumn to mid-winter.

PNP 150 Archer F1A heavier ‘bolder’ parsnip of more traditional obovate to broad obtriangular shape. Long uniform roots with the traditional parsnip off white / pale cream colour. Best sown in the main spring period and lifted before January.

PNP 130 dagger F1Dagger has very slender roots of a narrow obtriangular shape. Smooth white skin with high crowns make for relatively easy cleaning. Sown at higher densities, Dagger will produce large quantities of regular uniform roots ideal for pre-pack market demands. Sown at lower densities it will fill well down the root producing heavy yields. In terms of root shape, Dagger could be described as being the parsnip nearest to looking like a large traditional carrot. Ideally sown in the spring and lifted before the turn of the year.

ParsnipThe development of new and improved parsnip varieties has been important in the history of Tozer Seeds. We pioneered the development of F1 hybrid varieties with the release of Gladiator in 1982 and the very successful Javelin in 1991. We are continuing to develop new hybrids with good vigour, canker resistance, shallow crowns, smooth skin, resistance to bruising and white roots of uniform shape and size.

Seed TreatmentsSeed from Tozer Seeds is generally sold as treated, although untreated seed is also available. In addition we can offer polymer seed treatments. A dramatic reduction in chemical use is achieved by this highly accurate method of crop protection. Fungicides and insecticides are applied to the seed surface by a specialised film coating technique, field operator and environmental exposure is therefore greatly reduced.
