League Rules The role of the league is to improve basketball skills along with good sportsmanship behavior.
It is very important that all teams act in a proper manner at all times. Standard CIF rules will
apply except as follows:
1. Schools should not charge fees for entrance to visiting teams, because volunteers usually provide transportation and they are already giving to make these games happen.
2. Games will be 4 quarters each. 6 minutes in duration. Each quarter will be a stopped clock. (If a team is ahead by 15 or more points at any time during 4th quarter, the clock will run for the remainder of the game.) Home team is responsible for the clock and official book. Home teams will report the game scores within 24 hours to league director.
a. The time period for the half will be no more than 4 minutes. The warm up time between games will be no more than 5 minutes. Time between 1st and 2nd, then 3rd and 4th quarters will be 1 minute.
b. Timeouts will not exceed 1 minute. Horn should sound at 45 seconds.
3. Fouls: 7 team fouls result in a 1&1 shot bonus 10 team fouls result in a double shot bonus
4. Technical Fouls: 2 technical fouls against coach- coach leaves premises
3 technical fouls on a team- the game is forfeited by that team
2 technical fouls on a single player- player out for remainder of game and next game.
5. Time Outs: Each team shall receive 4 time outs per game (to be used at any time) In the event of over time, each team will receive 1 additional time out.
6. Press: Full court press is approved.
After a 15 point lead, only half court press (leading team shall allow the losing team to
bring the ball across half court. 1st violation is warning. 2nd violation is a team technical
with no effect on rule #4
After a 35-point lead, the winning team cannot play defense outside the 3-point line. 1st
violation is warning. 2nd violation is a team technical with no effect on rule #4.
7. Overtime: Each overtime period will be 2 minutes in length with a stopped clock rule.
8. Conduct:
All coaches are responsible for the behavior of their player and their fans. Any physical
altercations (fights) will be looked into and the primary aggressor’s program WILL be placed on
probationary status. A second offense will result in the program being suspended from the
league.
9. Competition Rule:
Once a team is up by more than 25 points, they must take their starting players (the best 5
players) off the court and they must remain off the court until the lead drops below 20 points.
(This is clearly a rule where honor among coaches is important. You know your talent level and
need to honor this to the best of your ability.)
10. Uniform exception:
Under shirts may be the color of the uniform, white, or black. If the opposing team is wearing
white uniforms, the under shirts may not be white. Arm sleeves can only be worn with a
medical need from a doctor.
11. Playoff format:
Playoffs will be the top 8 teams. The tie-breaker will be the head to head results. If there is a
three-way tie that results which could push a team from the playoffs, then there will be a head
to head playoff game, prior to playoff brackets beginning.
12. LEAGUE RULES MUST BE POSTED AT THE SCORERS TABLE BY THE HOME TEAM. If the
rules are not posted the home team will receive a technical foul, with 2 shots awarded to the
visiting team prior to the start of the game.
Coaches should provide a copy of the rules to their referees for consistent enforcement of the
rules.
