What is a Chanticleer?A Chanticleer (SHON-ti-cleer) gives Coastal
Carolina University one of the most unique nicknames in all of sports. Chanticleer comes from Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales and came to Coastal Carolina when the University was a member of the University of South Carolina
system. A Chanticleer is a rooster who rules the barnyard with cunning
and wit. His competitiveness never wanes as he battles to the end, using his brains to come out on top every time.

The HTC Center is a 130,000-square-foot facility that is home to the Chanticleer basketball and volleyball programs. The $35 million project opened in the summer of 2012. When confi gured for a sporting event, The HTC Center seats more than 3,600 people, more than quadrupling the capacity of Kimbel Arena. This new facility will allow Coastal Carolina programs to be more competitive at the highest level, recruit the highest caliber student athletes and allow the Chanticleers to showcase their beautiful University and surrounding region. The facility houses offi ces, locker rooms and team meeting rooms for the men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball programs. In addition, the facility includes a dual use space that is suitable for expanded intramural sports and fi t-ness/recreation activities for the University’s more than 9,000 students. each of the three years, winning eight during the 2006
season and accumulating a 17-13 overall record. In 2007,
the Bulldogs tallied a 3.48 overall team GPA, the best

During the summer of 2005, Forman returned to his
native Hungary to serve as associate head coach of the
Hungarian men’s national team that defeated Serbia-
Montenegro, the runners-up in the 2005 World League

leyball coach at Baylor University during the 2003 sea-

the Middle European Champions League (MEVZA) title
in 2000. He led the team to an overall record of 176-13
for a winning percentage of .931. During his tenure as a
club coach from 1990-00, he guided teams to elite eight
fi nishes in the European professional CEV Champions
League in 1990 and 1994, as well as CEV Cup League in
1991 and 1999.
Forman started his coaching career as the head coach
of the Vasas Sports Club, which made it to the 1990 Hun-
garian Cup title and a fi fth-place fi nish in the European
CEV Champions League. The following year, while serv-

coach Sun De Lee, the team captured the Hungarian Cup
and posted another fi fth-place fi nish in the European
CEV Cup League.
In addition to his club experience, Forman has head

In her fifth year at the helm for the Coastal Carolina vol-leyball team, head coach Tammi McCaudy-Lee led the squad to its first Big South Tournament Championship and a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 1996. McCaudy-Lee received Big South Coach of the Year honors for her success during the 1996 season. During the beginning of the season, the team started off with a school record six wins in a row, including four 3-0 shut-outs. Coastal battled through some losses, but at the start of conference play, the team registered a then-school record 10-
game win streak which was broken up by a 3-2 loss at UNC Greensboro. The UNC Greensboro match was the only loss for the Chants for the remainder of the season until the NCAA Tournament. Coastal posted a 13-1 record in league action, the best in the Big South. In the Big South Tournament, the squad recorded 3-0 shutout victories against Charleston South-ern and Liberty to advance to the champion-ship game. In the final match, the Chanticleers downed UMBC 3-0 to claim their first Big South Tournament title. Roberta Croteau was named tourna-ment MVP and selected to the Big South All-Tournament Team. Croteau also earned Big South Volleyball Player of the Year and Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors. Coastal had two athletes earn All-Big South honors in Croteau on the First Team and Emma Prowse on the Second Team. Before traveling to Atlanta, Ga., for the first round of the NCAA Tournament, the team hosted University of Tennessee-Chattanooga in a play-in game, which the Chants won 3-0. The road ended for Coastal in Atlanta as Coastal fell 3-0 to Georgia Tech. The 1996 team holds several records in the Coastal Carolina all-time record book. The squad ranks first on the all-time list for service aces with 296 and second in kills with 1,832.
Roberta Croteau was named Big South Volleyball Player of the Year in 1996 and
was selected to the First Team All-Conference. She also earned Big South Tournament

As the old adage goes, “It’s not how you start the sea-son, but how you finish it,” and that could not be more true for the 2009 squad. The Chanticleers had a tough road, going 7-7 out of conference and 10-6 in the Big South to finish fourth in the league. However, the turning point in the season came on Se-nior Night after the team lost a disappointing match to Pres-byterian. At the conclusion of the match, the team went into
the locker room and talked about what needed to be changed and where they were going to go from there. After a lot of tears and frustration, the squad emerged as a new team with one goal--to win the Big South Tournament and go to the NCAA Tournament. Looking like a new team, Coastal faced its first test in the opening round of the Big South Tournament as it beat High Point 3-2 in a tough five-set match. The Chants played spoiler for the third time of the season, defeating regu-lar season champion UNC Asheville in all three meetings of the season, including a 3-0 win in the Big South semifinals to advance to the tour-nament finals. In a rematch of the 2008 cham-pionship match, the squad defeated Liberty 3-1 to earn the school’s third Big South Tournament championship. Junior Chelsy Kimes was named Big South Tournament MVP after registering 50 kills in three matches, including 12 kills in one set against UNC Asheville. Kimes was also se-lected to the All-Tournament team along with ju-nior Megan Bickford. Freshman Sierra Livesay was named Big South Freshman of the Year and senior Jill Nyhof earned Big South Scholar-Ath-lete of the Year for the second year in a row as well as being selected to the ESPN The MagazineAcademic All-America Second Team. Coastal Carolina was sent to Nebraska to play the Cornhuskers in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, falling 3-0.
Chelsy Kimes was named Big South Tournament MVP after registering 50 kills
in three matches, including 12 kills in one set against UNC Asheville. She also was named to the All-Big South First Team for the second
year in a row.
