To work in partnership with parents to challenge children to become
confident, connected, actively involved learners who are
caring and responsible people.
From The Principal...
HERE ARE A FEW OF OUR RECENT CELEBRATIONS AND SUCCESSES
Goal Setting Conferences were a great chance to catch up with parents/
caregivers and to put in place goals for the children to aim for.
The Kiwi Can values programme is going very well - the children are really
enjoying learning more about values.
Students in Totara and Kahikatea classes have been making the most of the hot
sunny weather and getting lots of swimming training done both at school and at Baywave with their SWIM IT programme.
The children (and staff!) have been learning more about recycling and looking
after our environment with the annual Zero Waste programme being run by Rachel this week.

The senior students are very keen to design and construct a Parkour playground at the back of the school for their Enviro project Inquiry as part of the school’s Vision Map. We are getting resources donated to do this. A huge thanks to the “Tyre Doctor” in Te Puke for getting us some awesome tractor tyre and tubes. We still need springs, scaffolding, wooden posts metal poles and frames. We have received some great funding from the Ministry of Education for property projects this year. Please see insert for information about projects that we will be working on during the next school holidays. While the weather is good we are looking at a working bee for the school and community hall on Saturday 9th March, starting at 9.00am and ending at 12.00pm with our famous community BBQ lunch at midday. If you can help in any way, please let us know by contacting Gary at school. “Many hands make light work”. We will be working on the following projects:
Parkour Playground (Senior Playground)
Cutting up Trees / splitting firewood for fundraiser
Scraping, sanding, cleaning and painting the schoolhouse
Putting up a fence
Finishing off the Flying Fox fort
General clean up
Finally, congratulations to Raspreet, Fraser, Sophie, Lane, Maniah, Samanpreet, Jaden and Ammon - our new student leaders and council for 2013. I am sure you will rise to the challenge and be wonderful role models for our school. Gary Veysi Principal

Board Elections - 30 May 2013
“Our communities need great boards to help build great schools”.
Trustees are active leaders in our schools and we need more people willing to use their skills and experiences for the benefit of students. Trustees have an important role supporting strong professional leadership and effective teaching for all students through informed governance. Both parents and people from throughout the wider community can be school trustees. It is important that boards represent the diversity of their school communities to ensure a bright future for our children. The elections also give parents of children at state and state integrated schools the opportunity to vote for candidates who will make a difference for their schools. It is an important responsibility and all eligible parents should use their vote in an informed way.
The elections are coming up very soon, please spend a little time thinking if you would like to help out your child’s school by becoming a Trustee. Feel free to contact any of the current trustees to discuss what is involved in the role of School Trustee (Julie can give you contact details if you are unsure who to speak to). We need responsible and interested parents or community members who are willing to make a difference to the education of the children at Te Ranga. Strong schools come from strong leadership, starting at the top with the Principal and Board of Trustees. For those who may be interested, take note of the following dates: Nominations Open: April Nominations Close: 16 May 2013 Election Day: 30 May 2013 New Board takes office: 06 June 2013
