SPOTLIGHT ON

THE VHS RED CROSS CLUB

The Vicenza High School Red Cross

Club has been busy this holiday season! In November students sorted holiday cards for

soldiers on Veterans Day (see photo on page 1),

fundraised for our Vaccinate a Village project,

and conducted interviews for the Veterans

History Project.

In October, club members came up with a

goal of raising $500.00 by 15 February for our

chapter of the Vaccinate a Village project, a

project associated with the American Red Cross

Measles Initiative. For each $1.00 donation, a measles vaccination is provided to someone who

lives in a high risk area in Africa. The club held

its first fundraising event on November 28th, the infamous Black Friday, gift wrapping for

donations inside of the Ederle PX. The students

exceeded their goal for the project's first

fundraiser, raising more than $400.00 for the

project. The next Vaccinate a Village fundraiser will be after the New Year. Stay tuned for more

details!

The Red Cross Club has also been busy conducting interviews for the Veterans History

Project, a project through the Library of Congress which seeks to collect video interviews

of the experiences of Veterans in all branches of

the United States Military. A group of students

were trained on how to conduct interviews in

October and began interviewing Veterans in

November. These were the first Veteran

interviews ever conducted in Italy. Once the

videos are completed they are uploaded to the Library of Congress website where they will be

available for future generations to watch.

These are just two of the projects that the students are currently involved with, and the Red

Cross Club continues to be an active participant

in the Vicenza Military Community. Congratulations to Kiki Sibila on being awarded

Garrison Youth Volunteer of the Month in

November for all the great work she has been

doing with the Red Cross Club. We are very

proud of our members and look forward to

seeing the great things they will accomplish in

2015!
