Each year, this fair brings together a range of employers representing all industries and sectors to meet one of the most diverse, talented student and alumni populations in the country. We are pleased that in these challenging economic times, over 75 employers have made John Jay College of Criminal Justice a priority for recruiting by attending this event. We serve over 15,000 students in a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs with an emphasis on “Educating for Justice.” Our faculty is revising, developing and proposing new programs at an impressive rate as evidenced by recently developed undergraduate majors like English, Economics, Global History, and Gender Studies as well as graduate programs like Forensic Mental Health Counseling and International Crime and Justice. FOR OUR UNDERGRADUATE & GRADUATE STUDENTS The mission of the Center for Career & Professional Development is to assist students and alumni in finding success in the career of their choosing through career exploration, skill development, gaining practical experience, and building a professional network. We work to ensure that each student or alumni we serve approaches his or her professional life with confidence, a sense of purpose and public service, and the knowledge and experience that will propel him or her to success! JOHN JAY CAREERS ONLINE is students’ online portal to viewing internships, full- and part-time jobs, and volunteer opportunities geared directly to John Jay College students; requesting a counseling appointment; and registering for events. CAREER ADVISEMENT & GRADUATE SCHOOL PLANNING will assist students in thinking about their interests, determining which they would like to pursue, and how to connect their academic major to career planning. Students are able to meet with counselors one-on-one during Drop-In Hours, which are Monday-Friday 1:00-5:00pm and individual 45 minute appointments. Additionally, we hold weekly workshops discussing these and other topics surrounding career development. INTERNSHIPS allow students to gain hands-on experience while developing career-specific skills. We assist students in deciding when to do an internship, identifying potential employers, and developing on-the-job success strategies. NETWORKING is a key strategy behind successful job searches and career success. We assist students in building a network by exposing them to alumni and professionals in their field at career fairs, panels, workshops, and networking receptions. ON CAMPUS RECRUITMENT encompasses the many ways that students can learn about our employer partners and meet them in person. Applicants for the full-time criminal investigator position of Postal Inspector must be American citizens with at least a four-year degree conferred, and be between the ages of 21 and 36.
