School’s Out Day CampJune 16 to August 29 (five one-week camps)School’s Out Summer Camp is a great way to broaden friendships and teach campers to be independent through interaction in a group environment. Dedicated camp staff will facilitate fun games, activities and field trips. Campers will experience meaningful social interactions through group games and activities that will last a lifetime.

This program is for children who have completed kindergarten through sixth grade and reside in Isabella County. Sports, arts, crafts, creative expression and other daily activities are centered on weekly themes that will help campers build new friendships and skills. In addition, field trips are spread out over the various weeks to help the campers gain new experiences.

This program is for children who have completed seventh or eighth grade and reside in Isabella County. Campers will participate in various sports, arts, crafts, creative expression, and cultural and educational enrichment activities. West Adventure Camp offers a unique experience as it gives campers three field trips a week. There are two field trips inside the city and one outside the city to ensure a fun but educational experience.

West Adventure CampJune 23 through August 1C PEAK - Partners Empowering All Kids
PEAK, Partners Empowering All Kids, is designed to provide all school age children with educational, enrichment, and recreational activities in a fun and safe environment by keeping schools open until 6 p.m. on school days and turning schools into community centers for kids during the summer months. PEAK began as a 21st Century Community Learning Centers program funded by the U.S. Department of Education in August 2001. Although grant funding ceased May 31, 2005, the PEAK doors remain open through a major grant from the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe, other community support and nominal tuition. PEAK is administered by the City of Mt. Pleasant Parks and Recreation Department in partnership with Mt. Pleasant Public Schools and in collaboration with a number of local agencies.
We strive to provide a safe to all those who attend camps. PEAK is a licensed program that meets internal and external audits annually.
Who Can Attend Children who are have completed kindergarten through eighth grade, and reside in Isabella County will discover the awesome benefits of education and recreation through a variety of daily activities: sports, crafts, creative expression, cultural and educational enrichments.
Snacks & LunchAn afternoon snack is provided each day. Lunch is not provided. Children are required to bring a healthy, non-perishable lunch each day; refrigeration is not available.
Field TripsLocal area field trips, such as skating and bowling will vary by site. All on-site activities are closed when field-trips are planned. Participants must attend the field trip or find an alternate activity for that day; the site will be closed.

Scholarship InformationIt is the goal of the Summer PEAK Program for all children to be able to attend summer educational and enrichment programs, regardless of their personal financial situation. Scholarships are available for the Summer PEAK Program, based on free/reduced lunch income guidelines. Verification will be required. If you are interested in receiving a scholarship or sponsoring a child in the Summer PEAK Program, or are interested in making a personal or business tax deductible contribution to the PEAK Scholarship Fund, please contact Mt. Pleasant Parks and Recreation at 989-779-5331.
The Fourth of JulyDue to the dates of the holiday falling at the end of Summer PEAK week #2, all sites will be closed on Friday, July 4 to allow for this holiday.
Assistance for Special Needs All interested persons may attend and participate. Persons with disabilities needing assistance to participate may call the Parks and Recreation office at -989-779-5331. A seven day advance notice is necessary for accommodation. Persons requiring speech or hearing assistance may contact the City through the Michigan Relay Center at 1-800-649-3777.
ALL PEAK PARENT MEETINGOn Tuesday, June 10, 2014 a PEAK Parent Informational Meeting will be held at Mt. Pleasant City Hall at 6:30 p.m. This meeting will be a great opportunity to meet the PEAK Staff and get all the necessary information for a successful summer with the PEAK Program.
StaffOur camp staff has been hand picked to ensure we have the best staff to provide an exceptional camp experience. Camp staff is trained and certified in providing a safe environment for your campers to excel in. All camp staff have had background checks, drug screening, CPR/First aid training, and have gone through safety procedures and policy training.
Camper to Counselor RatiosTo provide proper and safe activities, camp will utilize a 10:1 camper to counselor ratio. It is extremely important to us that you leave your child in safe hands by providing proper supervision and ensure that your camper will be provide the best experience while attending summer camp.
Registration and PaymentAll registration information is located on our website at www.mt-pleasant.org/summercamps and at the Mt. Pleasant Parks and Recreation office and various PEAK sites. All required paperwork must be completed in full before payment will be processed. Payment is expected in full at the time of registration; however, payment plans are available. Please contact Mt. Pleasant Parks & Recreation for more information at 989-779-5331. Acceptable forms of payment include: cash, check, Discover, Visa or MasterCard (a 3% fee will be assessed to all credit card transactions).

PEAK Camps: What you need to know
Counselors in Training (CIT) - June 23 through August 1 Monday through Friday (times same as PEAK camps)Cost: $150 City resident fee/$200 non-City resident feeRegistration deadline: June 13The CIT program is a leadership training program for teens ages 14 and 15 years old. It is designed as on-the-job experience where teens will attend trainings and have the opportunity to participate in program activities. They willbe rewarded for their hard work with an extra field trip each week. Interested teens must participate in an interviewprocess, along with completing an application, available at the Parks and Recreation Office in City Hall or online atwww.mt-pleasant.org/summercamps
CMU Reading Clinic - July 7 through 31Monday through Thursday - 9 to 11:30 a.m.Cost: $250/scholarship rate: $100This summer, CMU is again partnering with the Mt. Pleasant PEAK program to provide intensive, individualized, one-to-one tutoring in reading and writing for kindergarten through eighth grade students. Youth Police Academy - July 7 through 24Monday through Thursday - 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.Registration Deadline: June 2The Youth Police Academy is a free program led by the Mt. Pleasant Police Department’s Youth and Community Services Unit for students entering 6th through 8th grades. The academy runs weekdays from July 7 through July 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cadets will gain insight into a career in law enforcement through hands-on activities such as building searches, defensive tactics and emergency response demonstrations. These activities focus on the development of character, discipline and team building skills. Cadets will also participate in several field trips such as the Isabella County Courthouse and jail to learn more about the ethical, physical and day to day operations of law enforcement. British Sports Camps - August 11 through 159 a.m. to 12 p.m.Cost: $115Motivate, activate and energize your child with Challenger Sports’ Multi Sports Program. Challenger’s team of British coaches will provide your boys and girls, ages 7 to 14, with a memorable week of nonstop action, fun and competition- All with a British Twist! Children will learn new British sports and develop new skills with team-building activities that include more than just running, jumping, catching, kicking and throwing! They will also learn about respect, responsibility, integrity, sportsmanship and leadership, while playing hard, having fun and making new friends.
