The purpose of the 2FLY Pilot Selection is to minimise risk. Professional pilot training is a significant committment for cadets. It is therefore crucial to assess that candidates have the necessary aptitude and potential to succeed in completing a programme of commercial pilot training. Successful completion of the Selection Process will result not only in being offered a place on an 2FLY Pro-Pilot Programme, but in the security that any risk of you failing to complete your training is minimised.

2FLY’s Selection Process consists of two STAGES:

STAGE 1 is always completed online and consists of a series of computer-based tests provided and hosted by our independent assessment partners - Symbiotics. These tests can be done either using your own computer at home or at an assessment centre specified by 2FLY which you will attend by mutually convenient appointment. Whichever option you choose, the tests take the same form and the results are sent directly to 2FLY staff for immediate action.

STAGE 2 is always completed at an assessment centre specified by 2FLY which you will attend by mutually convenient appointment. If you wish, you can comfortably complete both STAGES together in one appointment.

When attending, the process is carried out on a specified day at a venue near you, usually a local hotel. Selection days are usually split into three sessions and the session you attend will be mutually agreed between you and 2FLY staff beforehand.

The following pages guide you through the whole Pilot Selection Process, from when you decide you want to see if you have what it takes to train with 2FLY, right through to commencing your Pro-Pilot Programme.

If you have any questions about the process please contact 2FLY staff whose details are at the end of this guide.

We wish you every success in your chosen career.

Whether you have attended an 2FLY Pro-Pilot Seminar at a venue in the UK or Europe, or whether you have done your extensive research as to the various routes to becoming an airline pilot, the fact you are reading this guide means you are seriously considering taking the next step to see if you have what it takes to commit yourself to pursuing an airline career. This first section deals with completing STAGE I of the 2FLY Pilot Selection Process from your own home using your own computer.

REGISTRATIONOnce you choose to commit to taking the online assessment and screening, you will be sent a URL with instructions on how to log into Symbiotics system.

Please enter your full name where indicated to accept the Data Protection Notice, then click the ‘Enter’ button to access the assessment facility hosted by our partners Symbiotics.

The first page you enter will be the REGISTRATION screen, shown below, and you will be asked to provide your first name, surname, date of birth, gender, country of residence, telephone number and email address. The system will remember these details so please ensure that you keep a note of the details that you provide for future reference. You will be asked to agree to the terms and conditions before you continue. When you have completed all details click ‘login’ to continue.

After the registration screen, you enter the PAYMENT screen where you will be required to pay the Pilot Selection fee which will cover both STAGE 1 - the online Assessment and Screening - and STAGE 2 - the Personal Interview. The current cost of the whole process is £95 including VAT.

Once payment is accepted, you will enter the CONFIRMATION screen which will complete the registration process. Email confirmation will also be sent to you.

At this point you have the choice of taking the tests immediately, or to return at a later time to complete them. You could also choose to arrange to attend a Pilot Selection Day at a venue near you in order to complete both STAGES together. The choice is yours.

LOGGING INIf you decide to proceed immediately to the tests, you will be automatically logged in and the tests that you have been allocated to take will load. Whether you have studied the Handbook or not, instructions for each test are given before each module.

If you have decided to return at a later time, you will follow the unique individual link which you received in your registration confirmation email which will automatically log you into the system.

Whichever path you took to log in, you will be required to click ‘continue’ to receive the instructions for your first test. We will look at the tests in detail after the next section which deals with attending an assessment centre to complete STAGE I:

If you intend to attend a 2FLY Pilot Selection Day at a venue near you, you will make a mutually convenient appointment with 2FLY staff beforehand. Upon arriving at the assessment centre, which is usually a local hotel or similar venue, you will be encouraged to relax and take some refreshment before commencing the online assessment.

Please do not bring your own laptop with you as these are provided by 2FLY staff who will set up the Registration screen for you to register. The process you will follow matches that exactly on the previous page and you will be required to pay the assessment fee as you do so. Please ensure you have a method of payment with you when attending in the form of a credit or debit card. We will now look at the assessment tests which are known as ADAPT, which stands for ASSESS, DEVELOPMENT & PERFORMANCE TRAINING. They consist of four separate tests:

STAGE 1: ASSESSMENT & SCREENING - Module 1: Personality Profiling

The first Module looks at your personality, values, behaviour and attitude. It has no time limit, but you should aim to finish within 30-45 minutes, in one attempt. It is split into 11 sections. The questions vary in length and there are 3 different question types, all of which have 4 multiple choice options:

Question Type 1

Read the question carefully and decide which of the two options most closely describes

your opinion or preference i.e. which option is ‘most like me’. Then select the option that

most accurately describes how strong this preference is, a moderate preference or a

strong preference.

Question Type 2

Read the question carefully and then select the option that most accurately describes

your opinion or preference, strongly agree, agree, disagree or strongly disagree.

Question Type 3

Read the question carefully and then select the one option that most accurately

describes your opinion or preference.

You will answer questions on a range of topics, including your interests, preferences and opinions. There are no right or wrong answers. To assess your personality to the highest standard, we need to get the correct information about you. Therefore, you should be totally honest when answering the questionnaire.

Do not spend too long thinking about each question – your first reaction is usually the best. The information given may not be as detailed as you want, but answer the best you can. Be as honest and truthful as you can. Do not give an answer just because it seems like the right thing to say. Your answers will be saved at the end of each page, so you can come back and carry on with the questionnaire if you get disconnected. You can go back and change any answers once you have pressed ‘next’. You need to answer all questions in all sections.

You will not be allowed to finish the questionnaire until all the questions are answered. The left hand bar on the screen will show you how many questions are still to be answered on the page and how many pages are left to complete.

STAGE 1: ASSESSMENT & SCREENING - Module 2: Maths Test For Pilots

The MATHS test is 30 minutes long and the timer will commence when you start the test. Click ‘next’ to move on to the next page of the test. You may use the ‘next’ and ‘previous’ buttons to scroll through the pages of the test.

The test will automatically finish after 30 minutes whether or not you have answered all the questions. You will be logged out of the test and your data uploaded. If you finish the assessment within 30 minutes you may click ‘finish’ to exit the test. Your data will be uploaded – you will not be able to return to the assessment.

The questions get progressively more difficult throughout the paper

Questions 1-5 are at foundation level and worth 1 mark each

Questions 6-15 are at intermediate level and worth 5 marks each

Questions 16-20 are at advanced level and worth 10 marks each

You may choose which questions you answer and in what order. Topics include:

Speed/Distance/Time Calculating Fuel Rate Basic Pythagoras

Sample question:

1) A car is travelling at a speed of 20 mph. How many miles will it travel in 4 hours?

A) 80 miles B) 60 miles C) 40 miles

STAGE 1: ASSESSMENT & SCREENING - Module 3: Cognitive Pilot Aptitude Test

This Module will measure and assess your aptitude in the following areas:

Numerical ReasoningThese questions test your ability to use, interpret and manipulate numbers and mathematical data.

Verbal ReasoningThese questions test your ability to analyse, interpret and understand written information.

Spatial Relationship ReasoningThese questions test your ability to see spatial patterns and move or rotate these in your mind to solve visual problems.

Abstract ReasoningThese questions test your ability to recognise patterns and similarities between shapes and figures.

Perceptual Speed and AccuracyThese questions test your ability to work quickly and accurately to find information from numbers or images.

Working MemoryThese questions test your ability to hold, retrieve and use information held in short term memory.

All questions are multiple choice in format and will either have three or four choices to select from, only one of which is correct. You will need to read each question carefully before responding.

You will not be able to go back to change your answers so you will need to work accurately but quickly in order to complete the test within the time limit. Each question set will have 6 questions, making a total of 36 questions in the paper.

STAGE 2: ONE-TO-ONE INTERVIEW

STAGE 2 consists of a one-to-one informal interview with Pan Am staff. The discussion will centre around the results of your assessment and the best course of action to take in order for you to achieve your training goals.

Although we refer to the Interview as ‘one-to-one’, we actually invite candidates to bring their parents or sponsors along to STAGE 2 so that any question you or they might have can be answered fully. If you are successful in passing both STAGE 1 and 2, we will make you with a formal offer of a place on the Pro-Pilot Programme and discuss start dates and payment options with you.

If you are unable to attend STAGE 2 in person, we can arrange to conduct the interview via Skype at a time convenient to both yourself and 2FLY staff. Please make us aware of this when we contact you to arrange STAGE 2.

The report generated by Symbiotics will give us your profile and your potential to successfully complete a course of professional pilot training. The purpose of the one-to-one interview is to go through this report with you and assess your training requirements based on the findings. It may be possible that you would require some form of remedial training in order to increase your potential and thus minimise risk further.

Our partners, Symbiotics, have a range of short courses designed to do just this. Therefore, not passing the assessment and screening does not mean you cannot rectify any fault and take the assessment again with greater success.

One other aspect of STAGE 2 is that you will be also assessed on your personal appearance and conduct while attending the process. Although the interview is basically informal in nature, these factors will be taken into account during the discussion. The areas assessed are shown below.
