Nothing remains the same. Beth Hecquet resigned to accept a position outside the industry earlier this year, and Lori Gamble has accepted a fulltime position as your Associate Executive Director. We are not hiring a director of meetings and events. Instead we are evaluating our needs, creating new job descriptions, considering budget implications and then moving forward with at least one new employee.

In the past year we were able to accomplish the following:

• CSEEprogramredesignincludingadecisiontointroduceon-line learning late in 2015

• Expandedournationalmarketingandpublicrelationsprograms

• StartedourNASCPlaybook(quarterlypublication)• IntroducedourGetintheGameweeklynewsletter• Createdanextensiveseriesofwebinars• Createdourownstand-alonefallconferencethatlaunches

thisSeptemberinColoradoSprings

For 2016 you can expect more. For example, we will establish theNASCHallofFameandholdtheinauguralenshrinement dinner in Grand Rapids. This project will be directed by our LeadershipCouncil, whichconsistsofpastchairpersonsoftheNASC.

So,listen,learn,shareandsell!

Warm wishes,

Welcome to Milwaukee!

We are thrilled to host a record number of attendees at the 2015 NASC Sports Event Symposium and to be the first city chosen to host the Symposium for a second time in its 23-year history.

Milwaukee’s reputation as an attractive, affordable "Sports-Friendly City" continues to grow. The city welcomes thousands of athletes each year to events ranging from NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament, WI State Boys & Girls Soccer Championships, Big East VolleyballChampionships and NCAA Men’s Frozen Four, to USA Fencing North American Cup, USATable Tennis - US Open and US Speedskating World Cup Qualifier. For an unprecedented third year in 2015, Milwaukee will host the USA Triathlon Age Group National Championships along Lake Michigan.

Milwaukee’s winning lineup of first-class facilities includes the Wisconsin Center and UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena with their wide range of configurations, along with Miller Park and BMO Harris Bradley Center, homes of the Milwaukee Brewers and Milwaukee Bucks, and even the Milwaukee Mile, the oldest operating motor speedway in the world. Add to this ThePettit Ice Center, an official U.S. Olympic Training Center, Uihlein Soccer Park, The Rock Sports Complex and Bradford Beach, and you’ve got a great sports destination.

You’ll enjoy the walkability of downtown Milwaukee and the convenience of the Hilton Milwaukee City Center and Hyatt Regency Milwaukee, connected to the Wisconsin Center by skywalk. You can rev up your engines at the opening night reception at the world’s only Harley-Davidson Museum and have fun exploring the city’s vibrant dining scene, nightlife and brewery tours.

Best wishes for a successful symposium in Milwaukee! Our VISIT Milwaukee staff looks forward to sharing ideas with you and learning from you.

April 27, 2015

GREETINGS! On behalf of the City of Milwaukee, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all attendees of the 2015 NASC Sports Event Symposium held April 27-30, 2015. I commend the National Association of Sports Commissions for its commitment to develop the sports tourism industry, promote access to event information and advance the value of sporting events in our communities. The City of Milwaukee is proud to be the home of the Milwaukee Brewers, Milwaukee Bucks, the Admirals and Milwaukee Wave, and our great State is the home of the Green Bay Packers. Milwaukee is a destination for all sports fanatics and as Milwaukeeans, we love to rally and support our home teams.

Milwaukee’s exciting attractions and a lively downtown area, combined with its renowned warmth and hospitality, assure all participants of a memorable visit. The magnificent kinetic “wings” of the lakeside Milwaukee Art Museum welcome visitors to experience its world-class collections. Interactive science, technology and water science exhibits beckon at neighboring Discovery World. The one-of-a-kind Harley-Davidson Museum dazzles with its exhibits featuring motorcycles, history and American pop culture. You will find lively entertainment and a tempting array of dining options throughout the City. A charming RiverWalk links downtown to Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward, where unique shopping awaits at the Milwaukee Public Market, featuring everything from locally made chocolates to spices, wine and seafood. The unique neighborhoods of Old World Third Street, Walker’s Point, Brady Street and Dr. Martin Luther King Drive all invite you to experience the City’s rich cultural tradition and diversity. I hope you have the opportunity to explore Milwaukee and see all our City has to offer. I look forward to meeting you and best wishes on a successful symposium! Sincerely,

Tom Barrett Mayor
