A message from the West Region Director

On behalf of the entire Western Region family, we welcome all of the volunteer umpires that have been selected to umpire in the “2015” Western Region Baseball and Softball Tournaments. Through your dedication and volunteer service to the leagues in your local communities, you have earned the right to represent us at this elite level of play.

The Volunteer umpire plays a major role in the success of the local league and selection as a Regional umpire is a significant achievement deserving of much recognition. To earn such an honor an umpire must demonstrate above average skills, adhere to the true principles of Little League Baseball and Softball and provide their officiating services on a voluntary basis.

Many of this year’s Regional umpires have waited years for the opportunity to umpire at this level and it will undoubtedly be an experience that will last a lifetime.

Our sincere thanks and best wishes go out to each volunteer umpire and we wish you the best and hope that you have a pleasurable and rewarding experience and thank you for your dedication and commitment to Little League Baseball and Softball.

A message from the West Region Umpire In Chief

It is with great pleasure and honor that we introduce you to the 2015 Western Region and World Series Umpires. Each is an exceptional Little League volunteer and have reach the goal of being selected for the highest levels of officiating. The volunteer Little League Umpire has a critical role in the development of each child involved in the Little League program.

The umpire is an essential part of the lessons learned relative to sportsmanship, responsibility, winning and losing. They understand what it means to be part of a team. Each takes on the responsibility of being a good role model and providing each participant with the positive life lessons that will allow them to become better adults and future leaders in our communities. The men and women honored with Regional or World Series selections in 2015 have attained recognition for their hard work, commitment and loyalty to Little League. Each is now a member of a special fraternity. Please congratulate them for their accomplishment.

As Umpire in Chief of the Western Region and on behalf of the Assistant Umpire in Chief, Doug Perret, we both thank you for all you have done this year and in years past to garner this achievement. You are a credit to your local leagues, Districts, Sections and the Western Region. On behalf of my fellow members of the Western Region Little League Umpire Alumni Association, I want to congratulate all of you who have been selected to umpire at a Western Region baseball or softball tournament in 2015. You join a long and distinguished list of volunteer umpires who have had the honor and privilege of being selected from amongst their peers to work one of these

prestigious post-season tournaments.

Your selection is a great honor for you, your family, and for your District and one you have worked hard to attain I am sure. The volunteer umpire is an integral member of the Little League program. This assignment takes you away from your family, friends, and work to positively help shape the lives of our youth. For that commitment and sacrifice, you should be highly commended.

I, along with each member of our Umpire Alumni Association thank you for your time and dedication. You are part of the closest and best fraternity in the world. Be proud of your achievements, they are well earned. Enjoy the games, the atmosphere, the camaraderie and have a great Tournament!!!

Thru generous donations and memberships since its inception in 2005, the Umpire Alumni Association has invested tens of thousands of dollars into equipment, scholarships and facilities benefitting Little League volunteer umpires throughout the Western Region. Since that beginning, we have grown to over 200 members, both men and women, from all walks of life. What we have in common is a true dedication to the Little League program and the belief in its principles; Character – Courage – Loyalty.

PERSONAL: By profession, I am a high school social studies teacher in Vacaville, California and have taught for 20 years. I have also been a staff development trainer for history instruction for 14 years.; I am the proud father of two teenage boys, Kevin and Jack, and have been in a wonderful relationship with my girlfriend Dina for the last three years; I am also very active in my church and have served as the Sacristan for St. James Parish for the last 15 years.

HOBBIES: I love baseball - especially following the SF Giants! My other hobbies include umpiring, photography, and hiking.

VOLUNTEER CAREER: I have 20 years of volunteering for Little League from coaching to being a local league president for 2 different leagues to being an Assistant District Administrator. I have been a volunteer Little League umpire for 12 years including at the District and State tournaments for 7 years.

PERSONAL: I have been married to my wife Beth for 27 years. I have two children, Logan and Amelia. Logan is 25 years old and is a Lieutenant Junior Grade and Naval Aviator in the Navy. Amelia is 23 years old and a massage therapist in Las Vegas.

HOBBIES: In addition to umpiring, I am an avid runner who has completed 23 marathons, including 3 Boston Marathons. I also enjoy chasing a little white ball around a grass field trying to get it to go into a 4.25” hole 18 times.

The next year I became the softball coordinator for the program. In 2003 I began umpiring at the local level for both softball and baseball. I also have held the following jobs in my league from President, safety officer, umpire-in-chief, and player agent. I have umpired in many state tournaments beginning in 2005 and was also invited to be a host regional umpire for Junior softball that year. In 2007 I was an assigned Junior softball regional umpire and continued to umpire softball and baseball at the state level until 2013 when I was selected as a Junior softball World Series umpire. In 2104 I was selected to go to Poland and umpire at the Europe-Africa Regional Senior, Junior, and Little League Softball tournaments. PERSONAL: I moved to Arizona in 1996 and raised by three children. Megan, Michelle, and Bobby. I now have three grand-daughters to enjoy and watch grow. I teach 8th-grade science at the middle school.They have 3 children, Cameron 17, Wyatt 15, and Anika 13.

HOBBIES: My new found love is traveling. I give little league some of the credit for the new adventures that I have found when traveling to the many tournaments that I have been involved in over the last 16 years.

I have volunteered at the local league level since my kids started playing baseball. Within District 59 the level of umpiring is set to the highest level and a lot is expected of their umpires. Attending umpire school at Western Region is the only way to become one of the best. I have attended almost every clinic offered from Western Region Little League Umpire School. Including the week long school, the “Train the Trainer”, The Rules clinic as well as the Outreach clinics held in San Jose. I have umpired league championship games, District Championship games, Section Championship games and Division Semi-Finals games. I have been a volunteer at the Section 5 Outreach clinic for the last 3 years. PERSONAL: My wife Londa and I have been married for 15 years this July 22, 2015. We have 2 boys Reilly 11 (Has played 7 years and last 2 seasons in the Majors division) and Nick 8 (Has played 5 years and the last season played in Minors) HOBBIES: Other than volunteering in LL baseball I enjoy woodworking, bike riding and hanging out with my wife and kids. There are 5 generations still alive in my family, so my grand children have great-great grandparents still alive. HOBBIES: Besides umpiring, I am an avid bowler, having bowled 2 perfect games. The second game was very special since that came on the night my first grand child was born.

I had a few health issues that caused me to miss a season and couldn’t make up the lost time. I decided to run track and cross country to stay in shape. I played slow-pitch softball 3-4 nights per week during college and through age 42. That is when I really started to focus on coaching my boys and umpiring games. Baseball was a huge part of my childhood. My father played in the Cubs’ minor league system, my cousin played at AAA for the Dodgers, and I had a high school buddy drafted by the Pirates.
