This is the latest edition in CnetG’s ongoing Diversity Series and occured as part of the IRC Asia Pacific Regional Meeting, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The event was a joint effort with the Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF). In tandem with the Malaysian Government's aspiration to have 1,500 women on the boards of public-listed companies i.e. representing 30% of board composition, IRC Malaysia (CnetG Asia) has made a call for the development of a sustainable women executive pipeline at all levels. This is to ensure that the organisations in Malaysia would have high-impact board-ready women to take on significant board positions. Prepare At All Levels To Get To The Top Based on the nationwide survey, which was conducted as a collaborative effort with the HRDF and AMCHAM, CnetG shared some of the insights of the nationwide survey to the participants at the event. The survey revealed that while most companies have family-friendly facilities, not much is being done to facilitate attraction and also development of women leaders to key decision making positions. “Effective D&I programs are needed to enable women to develop enough experience and expertise to get to the next level. If any woman decides she wants to climb the ladder, the same opportunities that any man in the organisation has access to, should be made available to her as well. Executive Search firms play a key role in identifying these women as part of their rigor and comprehensive search process for all assignments,” said Raj Kumar, Founding Partner of IRC Malaysia. As a response to this, IRC Malaysia announced its Diversity Statement, launched by the IRC Board Member, Dr. Rohan Carr. “Gender diversity has been the focus of many Board Members, CEOs, lawmakers and HR practitioners in Malaysia in the last decade. The evidence is clear that balanced boards better represent their customers and stakeholders, make better decisions and deliver better financial results. Diversity challenges ‘group think’ and spurs competitiveness, invites different perspectives, and brings about creativity and innovation”, affirms Raj.
