NAMEKAGON RIVER:A northern tributary to the St. Croix River, theNamekagon is a 95-mile long river protectedunder the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway. Most of the Namekagon is undeveloped, offeringa genuine wilderness experience to kayak/canoe/tube enthusiasts. The riverbanks areabundant with deer, muskrat, beaver, turtles andblue herons, while overhead, eagle and osprey can often be seen. It isclassified as a Class I-II rapids. Campsites are numerous along theNamekagon, many of which can only be accessed from the water. Stopinto the Namekagon Visitor Center, operated by the National ParkService, to learn more about this true treasure.

TOTOGATIC RIVER:The Totogatic, dedicated in 2009 as a Wild River, is a beautiful, undeveloped river crossing the northern portion of Washburn County. The Totogatic River flows from Bayfield County all the way to BurnettCounty where it meets up with the Namekagon River, a tributary of theSt. Croix River. Most of the river is wild and remote, making this river abeautiful path for canoe and kayak enthusiasts. However, some areasare dangerous and not recommended for paddling, please check witharea experts prior to paddling the river.

YELLOW RIVER:The Yellow River was called the “River Juane” by early French explorersbecause of the bright yellow sand on the bottom of Yellow Lake, throughwhich it flows. There is excellent canoeing/kayaking on the Yellow Riveras it flows out of Spooner Lake in Washburn County, into Burnett County, where it joins the St. Croix River in Danbury. It offers a slow-to-moderatecurrent and a few gentle rapids. Access to the Yellow River is availableat numerous road crossings and public landings. Wildlife, includingthe White-Tailed deer and numerous varieties of waterfowl, areabundant along its shores.

Woods, water and wildlife – not a dream, but a reality. You need only travel to the southern tip of Douglas County, bordering onWashburn County, to experience what others may only dream of.

With miles of well-groomed recreational trails with recreational parking areas, over 100 pristine lakes to fish, swim andboat, and thousands of acres of forest land where visitors may hunt and hike, it is no wonder that people head “up

north” to relax! This is UP NORTH at its best.

Wascott is a community of volunteers where clubs, organizations and individual citizens work together toget the job done. One such effort is the annual Wascott Area Children’s Christmas Party held at the TownHall on the afternoon of December 24th. Everyone is welcome to come and join in the excitement whichbrings out the “child” in all of us.

Not here during the winter? Then plan to attend the annual Food and Fun event held at the Wascott Ball Park on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend. Meet our friendly resi-dents and other visitors for an afternoon of food, drink, prizes, games and camaraderie. You may come as a stranger, but you will leave as a friend.

During your stay, stop at any of our area businesses. Members of the Wascott Tourism and Development Association will offer you the finest that there is infood, beverages and lodging. You will be planning your next visit before leaving!
