Celebrating 40 YearsRockley Watersports was founded in 1976, which makes 2016 quite a big year for us! We started as a family business teaching sailing off the beach in Poole Harbour with a very simple business philosophy of getting people on the water and having fun whilst learning and improving. Fast-forward 40 years and the business has grown and developed to include professional and career watersports qualifications, training, family activity holidays to south west France as well as residential and non-residential school and group trips. We now manage 5 watersports activity centres between the UK and France and continually develop our programmes on the water to deliver the highest possible quality training and holiday experiences.

RYA COURSES & TRAININGAt Rockley we offer an unprecedented range of RYA courses and training including sailing, catamaran sailing, windsurfing and powerboating. See pages 8-14

SAILING - Rockley was founded to teach sailing and we have stayed true to our roots and still offer beginner, improver, intermediate and advanced RYA courses in dinghy sailing. With courses aimed specifically at every age group from juniors through to adults, at every level of experience and competence from beginners to advanced and instructor, we’re confident that we have the course for you. Our RYA sailing courses are run at Rockley Point and we also run taster sessions at Poole Park.

POWERBOATING - We have unrivalled expertise in driving and teaching in powerboats which is why we can offer a variety of powerboat courses every week of our season including the RYA Powerboat Level 2 course which we run twice a week.

WINDSURFING - From your first tentative steps to the sheer exhilaration of blasting along in the footstraps and harness there are few sports more addictive. Our beginner courses take place at our centre in Poole Park and offer the ideal introduction to this sport with a quality range of beginner equipment, allowing you to develop your skills. We also offer the RYA Start Windsurf Instructor course at Rockley Point.

Something For EveryoneAt Rockley we offer a range of activities to suit all abilities and ages. Take your pick from sailing, windsurfing, powerboating, catamaran sailing, kayaking and stand up paddleboarding.

INSTRUCTOR TRAINING We train more instructors in dinghy sailing, powerboating and windsurfing every year than any other RYA centre with 30% of annual RYA Instructor courses taking place at Rockley. A very popular choice and one that provides many happy memories and firm friends are our week long sailing or multi activity courses staying with us in our purpose-built accommodation at Rockley Point.

For those young people staying at Rockley Lodge, their time with us includes all meals as well as lots of different and challenging activities which guarantee a fun-filled week. We also have a full programme of things to do after the activity day is over from beach games to a climbing wall session and a visit to a local water flume park – so swimming things and lots of energy are essential! 40 YEARS OF EXPERIENCEWe are also innovators, having introduced teaching children to sail in single-handed dinghies in the 1970s and setting up our highly regarded watersports instructor training programmes in the 1980s. Indeed, if you visit a watersports training or holiday centre anywhere in the world you are likely to be taught by a Rockley-trained instructor. During the 1990s we expanded our schools residential activity trips and this is now the largest part of Rockley’s business, welcoming more than 5000 school children to outdoor activity experiences annually.

Students can also be encouraged to set goals in order to gain certification in the RYA National Sailing or Windsurfing Schemes as well as increasing their knowledge in such areas as meteorology.--

WHAT’S INVOLVEDOur Multi Activity Week is an action-packed week which allows youngsters to have a go at a range of activities. While the course does not focus on any particular discipline, the aim is to get youngsters to experience a variety of activities - some of which they may have already had a go at and some that they will have never tried.Youngsters have the option of staying with

Multi-Hull CoursesOur location on the shores of Poole Harbour, offers ideal training conditions for catamaran sailing. With highly trained staff and a variety of courses on offer, this is the ideal opportunity to kickstart your multi-hull sailing or improve on existing skills.

START SAILING (RYA LEVEL 1) £310

This 2-day course is for the complete novice who wishes to take up the sport.You will cover launching, recovery, rigging, tacking, gybing, points of sailing, trapezing and capsize along with all other relevant aspects of safety and theory. On completion of the course you will have a sound knowledge of the basic techniques of sailing a catamaran in moderate conditions.

BASIC SKILLS (RYA LEVEL 2) £310

This 2-day course is aimed at the sailor who already has a good basic knowledge of sailing whether mono or multi-hull. Instruction will cover rig tuning, equipment theory, sailing the boat in a wider range of conditions, helming on the wire, improvement of tacking, gybing and capsize recovery techniques, responsibilities of helm and crew, introduction to coastal sailing, tides, charts and compasses. By the end of the course you should be confident in a variety of weather conditions.

SAILING WITH SPINNAKERS & ADVANCED BOAT HANDLING £360

This 2-day advanced course will improve your existing techniques whilst introducing some new ones including improvement of helming on the trapeze, asymmetric spinnaker handling, advanced rigging, introduction to class racing, planning longer trips and sailing more technical catamarans.

CATAMARAN CONVERSION £180

This 1-day course is designed for the monohull sailor or windsurfer who already has a sound of knowledge of sailing and wishes to transfer their skills to a catamaran.

With our highly qualified and committed team of staff chosen for their passion for the outdoors and ability to instill a sense of fun into all aspects of their stay. From teaching watersports to our programme of ‘after hours’ activities, we will ensure that your children are engaged in exciting and stimulating activities throughout their stay.

JUNIOR & YOUTH RESIDENTIAL HOLIDAYSWhether you are looking for RYA training or fun-filled weeks on the water for your youngster, then our hugely popular residential weeks for 10 to 17 year olds are a wonderful option.

We draw on 40 years of working with and looking after young people to deliver the very best watersports courses and holidays from our superb, safe location based on the shores of Poole Harbour. It is our goal to ensure that all our young charges leave us with improved skills, new friends and happy memories which we are proud to say we achieve, so that youngsters come back to us year after year.

Our residential weeks include full board bunk accommodation and their week-long activity or RYA dinghy sailing or windsurf training course. This full board option is particularly popular as their experience with us is as much about their time off the water as it is on (or in!) the water.



OUR ACCOMMODATIONOur fully supervised, purpose-built accommodation is only a short walk from the sailing centre. Each en suite bunkroom sleeps between four and six people with girls and boys accommodated separately and those of a similar age sharing a room. Please inform us if friends are holidaying together and would like to stay together. Our own catering team provide three healthy, balanced meals a day and enough to satisfy appetites energised by days out in the fresh air.

YOUR TIME OFF THE WATERWe have a full programme of things to do after the sailing day is over to keep even the most energetic and enthusiastic young person entertained. After dinner activities can include anything from beach games to a beach bbq. 2 - PROFESSIONAL WATERSPORTS TRAINING (4, 6 & 10 WEEK PACKAGES)

Our Professional Watersports Training (PWT) is aimed at those individuals with little or no watersports experience and offers RYA Start Windsurfing Instructor (4 weeks), RYA Dinghy Instructor (6 weeks) and combined RYA Start Windsurfing Instructor and RYA Dinghy Instructor (10 weeks). Watersport Instructor qualifications will open the door into a world of possibilities in this globally expanding industry.


Instructor TrainingFor the more experienced sailor, our range of RYA Instructor Training Courses will help you take things to the next level.

This course is aimed specifically at candidates looking to progress to RYA Dinghy Instructor level who already hold the RYA Advanced sailing modules. The emphasis of the week is on getting you prepared for both the Instructor course and the RYAPre-Entry Assessment. During the course you will recap on

advanced sailing and the skills required for the RYA Pre-Entry Assessment on the water and upgrading and consolidating your theory and background knowledge off the water. The week will conclude on the Friday with the RYA Pre-Entry Assessment.

An RYA pre-requisite for the RYA Dinghy Instructor course is that all candidates have to pass RYA Pre-Entry Sailing Assessment, conducted by an RYA Coach Assessor. Sailing skills such as man overboard, sailing tight circles, sailing a triangular course and sailing a follow-my-leader course will be assessed to advanced sailing standard. Successful completion will enable the student to join the RYA Dinghy Instructor course. Held over two days, we offer the first day as a training day to brush up on skills

and familiarise yourself with the equipment and sailing area in preparation for the assessment on the second day. We also offer the assessment only as a one-day course. It is important that you satisfy yourself that you can sail to the required standard.

This 3-day course trains you in the various techniques and teaching methods required to instruct the RYA Level 1 and 2 syllabus and is run by an RYA Powerboat Trainer. STORIESLIZZY BOURNE started in 2011 as a paddlesport coach and in 2014 CAT ALBUT joined the Rockley team.

Lizzy & Cat became part of the Rockley Scholarship and achieved their RYA Dinghy and Windsurf Instructor qualifications. Both are now acting Centre Seniors and are working towards their Senior Instructor.

PADDY POWNEY came to Rockley in 2011 after graduating from Plumpton College. He gained his RYA Dinghy and Windsurf Instructor qualifications and is now working towards his Senior Instructor qualification.He has worked 3 seasons as a Dinghy Instructor and 2 as a Centre Senior in France and the UK.

Special Requirements All special requests should be clearly noted at the time of booking. We will make every effort to comply with all special requests although they may be subject to availability. Please make sure that you have informed us, either on your booking form or in writing, of any special dietary requirements (if you are having meals with us) and any medical notes which we should be aware of. We need to know about any medication that you are taking or any disabilities that you may have. Junior & Youths (<18yrs)For youths under 18 years of age we are authorised to act for the child according to our best judgement in any emergency situation requiring medical attention and to act in the place of the parents in an accident or other situation demanding an immediate decision.Arrival and Departure - Residential Students If you arrive the evening before your course, please check in at Rockley Lodge (situated on the left at the entrance to Rockley Park) at 1700 if you are under 16 years and 1800 if 16 years and over. When you arrive, a ‘Childcare Assistant’ or ‘Residential Senior Instructor’ will show you to your accommodation. Dinner is at 1830. After dinner all students will be given a talk regarding general safety procedures. Breakfast is served at 0800. You are expected to clear your room on the morning of departure. The final day of your course will finish at 1630 for most courses apart from the 5-day sailing courses, which will finish at 1600 on the Friday. Please note that instructor courses may finish later for completion of debriefs.Arrival and Departure - Day Students You are requested to book in at the sailing centre reception at Rockley Point on the first day of your course. Booking in is between 0915 and 0925. Parents/Guardians who are responsible for picking up students should do so by 1645. Please inform the office on 01202 677272 if you are going to be late for pick ups or drop offs. Accommodation Our accommodation sleeps between 4 to 6 people per room. We ensure that all room occupants are of the same sex and try our best to match you with people of a similar age. It is up to our residential customers to ensure that their rooms are kept clean and tidy throughout their stay and that they respect those sharing the room with them. Sleeping Bag and Pillow For those who are staying in our residential accommodation we do not provide linen therefore you must bring a sleeping bag and pillow with you. Food and Drink Inclusive in the residential option are three meals per day. Snacks and drinks are available at the Harbour’s

Edge Cafe where you can enjoy lunch or snacks throughout the day. These facilities may not be available very late or early on in the season and opening times may be restricted. Centre Rules For the safety and comfort of all our students and staff we have a number of rules for the sailing centre and residential accommodation. These include: NO SMOKING anywhere around the centre or accommodation. NO EATING OR DRINKING in the bedrooms. NO TAMPERING with the FIRE/SMOKE alarms. NO ALCOHOL is permitted in our centre or accommodation. Rooms to be kept tidy – please use the shelves and under bed storage boxes for your belongings. Things left lying around may be thrown away. Your room will be vacuumed, your bins will be emptied and your bathrooms will be cleaned, if left in a tidy condition. We reserve the right to charge for any extra cleaning or repairs that we deem is required. We can not be held responsible for loss or damage to personal property – please look after your belongings, keep doors & windows closed &/or locked. Any damage, however caused, will be charged to all occupants in the room concerned – unless the person responsible owns up to it. Car Parking The car parking area is owned and administered by Rockley Park and not ourselves. Charges are made for car parking (half price if you say you are with us) and do not apply if you are simply picking up or dropping off.

Entertainment We organise various activities for those on our Junior/Youth Residential courses. In high season we host a barbecue and evening activities, ranging from beach games, to excursions to Tower Park - a local leisure complex with “Splashdown” and “Megabowl”. Although these activities are for residential children, those who are not staying with us can also join in the fun for a small extra charge - please ask for details. Youngsters over the age of 16 but under the age of 18 are allowed off site only with the WRITTEN consent of their parent or guardian. Students are ONLY permitted to use Rockley Park facilities if they have obtained a pass from Rockley Park. Facilities As we share this part of Poole with Rockley Caravan Park, their customers and local residents, Rockley Watersports asks you, as our customers, to respect the other users of Rockley Lodge, Rockley Park and its facilities. Certain facilities will not be available out of high season (July and August) when the park will be quieter. Laundry facilities are available and tokens can also be obtained from Rockley Park reception for a fee.

Brochure Accuracy The Rockley Watersports brochure is prepared some months in advance. The images used in our brochures have been taken from a selection of our centres in France and the UK. Every effort is made to ensure the accuracy of the facts contained in the brochure. Circumstances may arise however where certain particulars have to be modified. In these circumstances the Company will make every effort to provide suitable alternatives but will not be held liable for changes made by outside influences. Our staff are often asked for information not contained in the brochure. Whilst every effort is made to ensure that all information given is correct, the Company cannot be held responsible if this should prove inaccurate.

Extra Charges A 3-day sailing course can be extended to a 5-day course subject to availability, for a supplement of £100pp. Any extras such as lunches can be pre-booked or requested and paid for on arrival subject to availability. No refunds will be given for extras booked and paid for but not used.

What to Wear Buoyancy aids and waterproofs are provided. You will, however, need PLENTY of old clothes - as sailing can be a damp sport! Bring shorts and tee shirts for warmer days and tracksuit bottoms and sweatshirts for colder days. A pair of old trainers or wetsuit shoes is also recommended. A kit list is provided on our website www.rockley.org and in your Joining Instructons.

Ideal for beginers to Instructor level students, you will find everything from wetsuits to waterproofs, sailing boots to buoyancy aids and whistles to rashvests. Local Activities Poole hosts evening events on the Quay and on Sandbanks beach throughout high season. The highlight being a firework display on a Thursday evening, For advice on where to eat and drink during your stay in Poole, or what to see and do, please contact Poole Tourism.

First Aid Our Centre is fully equipped with first aid boxes located in the residential accommodation and sailing centre offices. All our main safety boats carry a first aid kit and a radio. All our instructors hold a valid First Aid certificate and attend a health and safety induction when joining the Company.

AZURIVAGE


AzuRivageAzuRivage lies on the outskirts of the small town of Azur on the shores of Lac Soustons, in the Landes region of Aquitaine in south west France.

AzuRivage boasts a unique French ambience. Set in a beautiful wooded area just 40 metres from the lake’s edge, AzuRivage offers traditional camping with a friendly holiday atmosphere. There is a pool and small shop on site as well as a children’s play area and multi-sports pitch. A short walk to the lake edge is the perfect place to watch the sunset and unwind after an active day on the water. Simply AzuRivage is ideal for those wishing to get away from it all.

For the more energetic amongst you, the best way to explore the local area is by taking one of the many cycle tracks that lead directly from the centre or take to the trees and test your nerves at one of the local high ropes activity centres. A short 15 minute drive will take you to the small town of Vieux-Boucau. With its bars and restaurants, Vieux-Boucau is a great place to relax and enjoy a well deserved chilled drink! A bit further afield is the beautiful beach town of Hossegor. A real favourite amongst surfers, Hossegor offers a relaxed feel during the day which turns in to a lively holiday vibe by night.

Staying at AzuRivageIf your idea of a great family holiday is to get away from it all and escape the routine, then look no further than Rockley and our Get Active holiday.

ROCKLEY WATERSPORTS CHALET TENTSOur Get Active Holiday accommodation is provided in our own chalet-style tents. The Rockley chalet tents have three separate sleeping compartments for up to six people. Each tent has proper sprung beds, full electric lighting and power points. A table, parasol and chairs are provided for you to relax and enjoy the fresh air under the pine trees. On arrival, you’ll find a ‘welcome pack’ including a bottle of wine and some beer (chilled of course) along with some essentials: milk, tea, bread, preserve, coffee and a bottle of water - enough to keep you going until your first visit to one of the local supermarkets or your first meal with us!

If you’ve never been camping before you’ll be amazed how easy and enjoyable it is! Camping allows you to come and go as you please, creating your very own holiday. AzuRivage has all the facilities to make your stay relaxing, comfortable and enjoyable. Of course, if your ideal holiday includes a quiet spot, a good book and a glass of something chilled then camping does that best too.

AL FRESCO DINING Our Get Active holidays are all about you enjoying your time on the water with your family and new-found friends, which is why we take care of everything else including all your meals!

Our chef and catering team offer meals using fresh locally sourced ingredients for you to enjoy after your activities. With buffet style lunches which cater for all tastes and appetites and a two course evening meal including a bottle of beer, glass of wine or soft drink, you can enjoy the relaxed environment of a Rockley holiday and share tales of the day with your friends and family.

SailingWhether beginner or expert, parent or child, you’ll enjoy nothing more than a day out on the water. Our range of sessions and clinics are held throughout the week and are lead by our team of qualified instructors who are passionate about sailing. They will be on hand to show you the ropes and ensure you make the most of your time on the water. Each session is tailored to ensure every sailor achieves the maximum possible from their time on the water and focuses on how to carry on improving whilst free sailing. Our activity sessions are split by age and ability however families can sail together if you wish.

With clinics covering a number of differing techniques we aim to use a variety of boats over the course of the week to ensure the best combination of skills training. With sessions and clinics focusing on a different topics, you can pick and choose your clinic sessions to build your own week of sailing activities. Stand Up Paddleboarding & KayakingTake to the waters and explore the beautiful lake at Soustons on a paddleboard or kayak. Go solo or team up with your partner or your children. With both these activities included in your holiday, you can enjoy being out on the water whilst at the same time receiving a whole core body work out.

Stand Up Paddleboarding is a great alternative to sailing and a fantastic way to spend a few hours out on the water! Our Stand Up Paddleboards (SUPs) are easily launched from the beach and are super easy to use - you’ll be SUPing round the lake in no time!

Kayaking from our beach at AzuRivage couldn’t be easier. The beauty of this sport is that you don’t need to have any experience at all. Partner up with someone to really enjoy your time out on the water. And with plenty to see, you won’t even realise what a great workout you’re having! Windsurfing

So whether you are just starting out or looking to really perfect your skills, our seasoned expert windsurf trainers will ensure you make the most of your time out on the water!

BEGINNERS - Our centre is ideally located to offer beginner sessions for children (9+) to adults. The water is shallow and of course when you fall in, the water is lovely and warm! Teaching sessions include simulator work on land and plenty of on-water coaching to ensure your skills and confidence develop quickly!

IMPROVERS - With our ideal conditions, it won’t be long before you are developing your windsurfing techniques with our instructors providing you with teaching tips and encouragement to introduce you to the footstraps and harness techniques, which will see you racing across the lake, turning round and coming back again!

Trail BikingIncluded in your Get Active holiday, why not take to the road and many off road paths and explore the beautiful surrounds of AzuRivage and Soustons on two wheels.

Our mountain bikes which are FREE to use throughout your holiday are continually maintained by our qualified mountain bike leaders. Our bikes are available in various sizes and are suitable for youngsters aged from 11 years upwards, however anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. So once you are armed with a water bottle and one of our helmets, you are free to explore the area at your leisure.

GUIDED TOURSWhy not join one of our guided tours where you will get the chance to discover some fantastic trails and superb local cafes. Perfect for all the FamilyWe’re not quite sure who has the most fun on our Get Active holidays! Whether you are the parents, youngster or teenager, we know your expectations are different so we make sure that every family member is looked after!

NIPPERS (3-5 YEARS) - We offer a great activity programme for the younger children in the family. Under the watchful eye of our instructors, they will experience time on the water as well as land-based activities to keep them entertained in a fun way while you enjoy your activities.

JUNIORS (6-8 YEARS) - Youngsters aged between 6 and 8 will get the chance to to get out on the water and mess around on the kayaks, stand up paddleboards and dinghies and basically have loads of fun. Not only will your children have a fantastic time making new friends, they will also gain the water confidence to prepare them for their future activities on the water.

YOUTHS (9-12 YEARS) - Older children get to try as many activities as they can such as kayaking, stand up paddleboarding and sailing with the fun continuing on into the evenings!

TEENAGERS (13-19 YEARS) - Our Get Active holidays offer a great balance of family time together as well as giving your teenagers time away from their parents to spend with their fellow peers! Passport and Health You are required to have a full 10-year (<16yrs full 5 year) passport in order to visit France and non-EU passport holders may require visas. Lost, stolen or new passports will take a minimum of 2 weeks to replace. CurrencyWe recommend that you carry a small amount of Euros for when you arrive. Most major credit and debit cards are widely accepted in France.

Special Requests All special requests should be clearly noted at the time of booking. We will make every effort to comply with all special requests although they may be subject to availability. We need to know about any medication that you are taking or physical disabilities that you may have.

Students (<18yrs)For students under 18 years of age we are authorised to act for the child according to our best judgement in any emergency situation requiring medical attention and to act in the place of the parents in an accident or other situation demanding an immediate decision.

Arrival and Departure Our Rockley Chalet Tents are available from 1600 on the Sunday of your arrival. Please aim to arrive at the campsite between 1600 and 1900 - a member of our team will meet you. On arrival you will need to go to the campsite reception and obtain a barrier code. The campsite barriers are locked at 2300 - if you arrive after 2300, you will have to leave your car outside. You are requested to vacate your accommodation by 1000 on your day of departure.

Extra Charges A 2 or 4-RYA sailing or windsurfing courses are available for a supplement of £100pp or £150pp respectively.

Facilities We try to be as accurate as possible with regards to the availability and opening times of the facilities available on the campsite. However, due to circumstances beyond our control i.e. weather, time of year, local regulations or demand, some facilities may not be available.

Campsite Rules We ask that all our customers comply with the rules set out by AzuRivage for the enjoyment of all our customers and other users of the campsite and its facilities.

Entertainment & Other Sporting ActivitiesAzuRivage organises its own evening entertainment programmes throughout the high season, such as cabaret performances, which is generally open until late. Daytime programmes including sporting activities can be booked at the campsite reception.

Local Activities There are numerous restaurants situated in the smaller and larger nearby towns and villages that will allow you to sample the local french cuisine as well as discovering some beautiful places to visit and explore. For advice and recommendations, please ask any of the Rockley Watersports staff. We also recommend that you visit any of the local or regional festivals or events.

Accommodation Our Rockley Chalet Tent accommodation sleeps up to 6 people. The tents are fully equipped, including a Welcome Pack and tea and coffee making facilities. Each Rockley Chalet tent has electric lighting and a socket which requires a two-pin converter plug.

Barbecues AzuRivage has a designated barbecue island for you to use if you wish to have a BBQ.
