I liked that the postgraduate course offered a range of diverse and interesting elective subjects, with the option to choose a specialty. The course delivery was flexible, which meant I could balance my study around full-time work and personal responsibilities. Some subjects were offered via distance and others delivered through block sessions where I attended class for two days twice a semester, and then completed work independently. Now I have been able to apply the skills and knowledge I learned in my studies in my job, which has given me greater confidence in my work.

Study your wayCOURSEWORKUOW coursework programs are designed to develop practical and relevant skills from a range of specialisations that are driven by the current needs of industry. Similar to undergraduate study, postgraduate coursework assessments are based on a combination of written assignments, presentations, exams and practical exercises. Some coursework degrees also offer the option to complete a research project. Diverse course delivery options allow many students to complete their postgraduate studies while still working full-time.

MASTERS BY COURSEWORK 1.5–2 YEARS FULL-TIME OR PART-TIME EQUIVALENT

A UOW Masters degree can help you gain that promotion, start your specialist career, or change career paths completely. Admission normally requires students to hold a recognised Bachelor degree in a related area. However, there are exceptions. See coursefinder.uow.edu.au for details.

GRADUATE DIPLOMA 1 YEAR

GRADUATE CERTIFICATE 6 MONTHS FULL-TIME OR PART-TIME EQUIVALENT

The courses leading to these awards are designed for students who may be:

– Seeking a professional development course at postgraduate level

– Seeking to take a different direction from their Bachelor degree

– Looking for a pathway into a Masters degree.

RESEARCHA postgraduate research degree allows you to play an active role in transforming lives and communities. By contributing to a body of knowledge you’ll be shaping our future and furthering our understanding of the world. In most cases, you will be allocated two supervisors to ensure maximum support. There is also a wide range of research scholarships and awards to eligible domestic HDR students.

For information on scholarships, visit uow.edu.au/research/rsc/prospective

For information about UOW research strengths, visit uow.edu.au/future/postgrad/study/research

MASTER OF RESEARCH 2 YEARS FULL-TIME OR PART-TIME EQUIVALENT

This degree combines advanced research training and a substantial research project to provide a pathway doctoral programs. It represents an alternative to add-on (one-year) Honours degrees at UOW.

MASTER OF PHILOSOPHY 2 YEARS FULL-TIME OR PART-TIME EQUIVALENT

Combining research and coursework, a Master of Philosophy allows students to further their knowledge by undertaking substantial research in an area of their interest.

DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY 3 YEARS FULL-TIME OR PART-TIME EQUIVALENT

Candidates will make an original contribution to the body of knowledge in a specific discipline in this research-only program, which culminates in the production of a written thesis of research findings.

DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY INTEGRATED 4 YEARS FULL-TIME OR PART-TIME EQUIVALENT

A four-year degree that integrates a traditional three-year PhD thesis with one year of coursework, which allows candidates to improve their research skills and develop a detailed research focus.
