Ciao a Tutti

Hello to all. First and foremost, my sister Karen and I want to extend a heartfelt “Thank you” to every

member of our IASC Family who gave a hug, sympathetic words, Mass cards, condolence cards, flowers,

food and prayers on the loss of our Mother Phyllis. Also, a special “Thank You” to my Board for their

understanding and compassionate support through this time.

July was a very hot and rainy month but not at our Club! We kicked off and cooled off the month with our

Margaritaville Dinner Dance. Enjoyable time was had by all, especially those who partook in our

Margarita specialty drink with souvenir glass! Tim Rippey kept all on the dance floor and the food was

delicious. Thank you to all our staff and special thank you to our Social committee for the planning and

beautiful decorations as always! After this cool down the club got “HOT” like the weather with our

extremely successful Tito “Latin Pub Night” they were fantastic. The club was full and dancing went on till

1:30 am! Last, but not least we had our 2nd pub night of the month with a new band “Twisted Vibes” a

local rock group. They rocked it out with many memorable tunes and we thank the support of our local

nonmembers for coming out to make this a successful night. Please support our Club! You have no idea

what you are missing.

We only have 2 events to support our club this August month financially, so please make an effort to

come out and enjoy. We are currently selling tickets for our August Dinner” Seas the Day and Nautical

Nights” with entertainer Phil Farino. Again, please come out and support this summer time dinner dance,

we need you! Tickets are still on sale up to next Tuesday night, August 8th, so don’t delay anymore call

the office and reserve your seats now. Remember the Front door opens at 6:00pm and the ballroom

opens at 6:30PM. You have plenty of time to get your drink and your seats. Hope to see all of you there.

Our 2nd and last event of the month will be our Pub Night this month featuring “Soul Fire”! They are back

by popular demand from numerous member requests. Everyone loves their sound and dance music! If

you have never joined us and love that Disco era you will be amazed with their feature singer Nicole

doing a few Donna Summer tunes and more. There is no place around where you can get this great

entertainment and a good appetizer buffet for $10.00. We have started a new “Bistro 45” (in our front

lounge) $10.00 buffet every Thursday night 5:30pm-7:00pm with dancing and karaoke after 7pm. Do not

want to cook that night? Then come out for a delicious and filling buffet and the price is right! Then

starting August 24-October, we will be having Beginners Salsa Lessons in the Ballroom. The cost is a

one-time fee of $50.00 which includes eight weeks of classes from a professional instructor Luis

Caballero. The time is every Thursday from 7:30pm – 8:30pm with an additional 30 mins of practice.

Please call the office to sign up now. We still have some openings so do not delay sign up!

On to our Club business. Thank you to Mike Aulicino and Lois Big Mountain for stepping in pro tem as

Director and Secretary until we can vote on permanent placement. We lost one of our newer Members

this month Dominick DiAngelo. Please pray for him and his family members. Also, please pray for our

members who have just lost a loved one recently and all who need our prayers.

Remember, “THIS IS OUR CLUB AND OUR FAMILY”. We are the “BEST CLUB ON THE STRIP”!

Grazie a Tutti

The study of Astronomy was invented by Ptolemy, a second century Egyptian astronomer and geographer. The Earth

was the center of the universe; the sun, the moon, and all other heavenly bodies revolved around the Earth.

This was accepted until Copernicus, a sixteenth century Polish astronomer, published a treatise on the revolution of

heavenly bodies. His treatise placed the Sun, rather than the Earth, at the center of the Universe. His book was banned

by the Catholic Church.

Shortly after the publication of Copernicus treatise, a brilliant Italian astronomer and mathematician at the University

of Padua, Galileo Galilei, perfected an instrument called a telescope. This instrument could be of use to the Church. The

telescope would resolve the pernicious conflict between the church and the new emerging science. Galileo was

summoned to Rome, and he was ordered not to teach the Copernicum system. He was ordered to use his telescope to

prove that the sun moves around the Earth and not the other way. In 1632 Galileo published documents that, not only

confirmed the discoveries of Copernicus, but also laid the foundation of modern astronomy.

Galileo was arrested and brought to Rome for trial. He was forced to retract his publications and accept the prevailing

science that the Earth was a stationary body at the center of the Universe, and the Sun revolved around the Earth. As he

rose from his knees, Galileo muttered, EPPUR SI MUOVE, “nevertheless, it does move.”

Galileo died under house arrest in Siena, Italy. He defiantly insisted that truth arrived at through science is more

valuable than wishful thinking. His final book, DIALOGUES CONCERNING THE NEW SCIENCES, summarized his

remarkable contributions to the way in which the physical world is understood to this very day.
