The Bush Church Aid Society has a heart for people living

in remote and regional Australia.

We are committed to going the distance to reach

Australia for Christ.

Under God, we do this by

• proclaiming Christ so that people may respond to Him;

• nurturing Christians in their faith and ministry;

• strengthening local Christian communities in their mission;

• providing services of Christian care and advocacy;

• developing an understanding of Christ’s mission and

• promoting active partnership throughout the church.

Our core commitments are

• relying on prayer for God’s help and the Holy Spirit’s guidance;

• trusting in the vision, authority and encouragement

of Scripture;

• working in humility, servanthood and fellowship with the church

in mission;

• developing interdependent relationships with Diocesan Bishops;

• providing pastoral care and professional development for staff and

• responsibly managing our resources.

The Bush Church Aid Society

We are Going the Distance by

• bringing the gospel of Christ to the outermost parts of

Australia – We are committed to sending messengers so that all

Australians, no matter where they live and work, are able to hear

the life-changing message of Christ.

• developing a new generation of culturally diverse Christian

leaders – We are committed to engaging young people,

discipling them in the faith and encouraging them in ministry so

they can lead others to Christ.

• supporting ministry by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander

people – We are committed to working with our first peoples

so they can serve Christ in ways that are Biblically faithful and

culturally appropriate.

• planting and renewing sustainable churches –

We are committed to establishing vibrant and outward-looking

gatherings of Christ’s people.

• equipping local leaders for fruitful ministry –

We are committed to supporting Christians ‘on the ground’ so

they can be salt and light for Christ.

• providing care in Christ’s Name –

We are committed to serving hurting people in times of crisis and

through ongoing Christ-centred pastoral care.

I grew up in a church-going family and was converted at fifteen. Since then I have been part of nine parishes and all but one supported BCA. I can still remember things said or slides shown by Bill Rich, Barry Huggett and Theo Hayman. The annual BCA deputation in each parish was always a well-attended Sunday. Supporting BCA was simply a normal part of being Christian, especially an Australian Christian.Of course, there is more to this than a city dweller’s fond imagination of the romance of the bush. There is the compulsion of Jesus’ great commission for us to go into all the world and make disciples. This must include those spread thinly across outback tracks as well as those clustered in crowded cities around the globe. And there is also the matter of fairness. Everyone should have a chance. The Word that was with God in the beginning is the light of all people so everybody has some opportunity to respond to the Word but how much more likely is such a response when they also hear that the Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.Cities and larger towns across Australia are oversupplied with churches and a choice of both parish and denomination. The quality of congregational life and witness may not always be ideal but churches are there and if one disappoints there is always another option nearby. Not so ‘on the outer Barcoo where churches are few’. Fairness requires us to see that everyone who gives God a thought has a chance to join a congregation of saints and seekers led by someone equipped to teach everything that Jesus has commanded – even when the congregation can’t pay the full cost of being pastored. Economic rationalism presses us to forget those who can’t afford to pay for ministry but St Paul responds: At the present time your plenty will supply what they need, so that in turn their plenty will supply what you need. The goal is equality, as it is written: “The one who gathered much did not have too much, and the one who gathered little did not have too little.”(2 Corinthians 8:14–15)BCA is God’s agent to balance the supply of leaders, pray-ers and givers – especially pray-ers, the engine room of all mission.

Nomads Coordinators

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. Acts 1:8

Give thanks for the Nomad Conference in Forster. Some 70 Nomads gathered to learn from guest speakers, study the Bible and learn about the change in focus of outreach needs in the field. We are becoming more aware of how enormous the potential and need that our ministry is being presented with. We’re looking at new service models and outreach opportunities. We most earnestly seek your ongoing prayers in knowing our Lord’s path.

JanuaryThings are hot and quiet in town during January. It is however a wonderful time for hospitality with Christians and non-Christians who are still in town. Pray that as we seize those opportunities we might be able to declare God’s praises.

FebruaryPlease pray for the new Parish council. Pray that Frank leads them well, and that together we would partner for the cause of making Christ known in Exmouth. Please pray that new Sunday School teachers might be raised up too.

DecemberThank God for His grace and mercy in providing Kees and Cindy Bootsma and Rod and Heather Williams to locum in Karratha while we were away. Pray that God will continue to grow and bless His people through the ministry of the word.

THE BCA PRAYERLord our God, help us to remember those who live in isolated and remote parts of our land. We ask you to strengthen and encourage all whose ministries are supported by The Bush Church Aid Society. Refresh them in times of discouragement and loneliness and call others to stand with them in the task of making Christ known. Grant that, through the ministry of the Word and Sacraments, through caring service and by support for young people, the message of your redeeming love may be proclaimed and accepted by the people of our land.

We ask these things through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:21

DecemberEach week we place a short article in the Hay newspaper. Pray for people to start thinking that belief in God is reasonable and to look at the implications; that we are made in God’s image and need an external moral code.

JanuarySchool Scripture starts again in Hay from mid-February. Thank God for the open door and support from the Principal and staff. Pray that students will continue to keenly participate in lessons and come to love Jesus.

FebruaryPray for a revival in church life in Hay, particularly for spiritual and numerical growth at St Paul’s. Numbers are getting very low, just a handful of committed church-goers. Pray that their faith in Jesus will be strengthened.

ProfileWe have been in Hay for over six years as BCA Co-Workers. Our ministry comprises three principal areas – St Paul’s Church, primary school SRE and various community involvements. The church congregation is very small and ageing. School SRE is rewarding, community response is hard to gauge.
