7‐1/KOREAFURNITUREMUSEUM
With 10 exquisite hanok structures fitting together on approximately 6,600 squaremeters ofbeautifully groomed landscape, the Korea FurnitureMuseum is perhaps the largest best‐keptsecretinSeoul.Andforthetimebeingatleast,itwantstostaythatway.Having unofficially opened in 2008 after 14 years of construction, the privatemuseum is thebeloved brainchild of its owner and director, Chyung Mi‐sook, a former professor at YonseiUniversityandacollectorwhopersonallyamassedthemuseum's2,000piecesofJoseonDynastyfurnitureoverthepastfivedecades.AsKoreantraditionallivingculturewassedentary,mostoffurniturewasbuilttobesmallandlow;forexample,thecabinetsfitperfectlybeneaththepaperedwoodenwindowsoftheMuseum'swomen'squarters.

GilsangsaTemplebelongstotheJogyeOrderofKoreaBuddhism.LocatedonthesouthernsideofMt.Samgaksan,thebuildingsoriginallybelongedtoahigh‐classrestaurant.NamedDaewongakbutweredonatedtoMonkBeopjeongSunimbytheowner,KimYeong‐han.ThetemplewasfirstregisteredonJune13,1995underthenameofDaebeopsaasabranchhasbeenremodeled,mostofthemarepreserverintheiroriginalstate.ThemajortemplebuildingsandmonumentsincludeGeungnakjeon(HallofAmitabha),Jijangjeon(HallofKsitigarbha),Seoulbeopjeon(preachingHall),Gilasangseowon,Yumaseonbang,theHouseofSilence,Beonmjonggak(BellPavillion),Iljumun(OnePillarGate),thetempleoffice,astatueofAvalokitesvara,andamonumenttothedeceasedGilsangwha.EnshrinedinGeungnakjeon,themainhallofthetemple,isastatueofAmitabhaBuddhaflankedbythebodhisattvasAvalokitesvaraandKsitigarbha.

10‐1.Seoul(theCapitalofKorea)Theword"Seoul"meanscapitalintraditionalKorean.Thecitycontainsbothhistoryandtradition,aswellasthelatestITtechnology,makingitquiterareanywhereontheglobe.►Gyeongbokgung(Palace)Builtin1395,andalsoknownasthe"NorthernPalace",itisthemainpalaceoftheJoseonDynasty.Oneoffivepalaces(Changdeokgung,Changyeonggung,GyeongheegungandDeoksugungPalacesarealsowortha visit), Gyeongbokgung is reputed to be themost beautiful and impressive of this era. Destroyed byJapaneseinvadersinthe16thcentury,itwasrebuiltandrestoredinthe19thcentury.Itcomprisesover7,700 rooms.Gyeonghoe‐ruPavilion andHyangwonjeongPondare still relatively intact.
