ELEMENTARY NEWS
Seal Elementary Teachers have been learning about “SeeSaw.”
Team Tech is a group of teachers at Seal Elementary that have received training on one of the latest technology tools called SeeSaw. Seesaw is a student-driven digital portfolio app that students can use to “show what they are learning in school” by using photos, videos, drawings, text, voice recording, and links. It is also a great tool for teacher and parent communication. As soon as a teacher approves a student’s item that has been uploaded to their digital portfolio, parents that are “Connected” will automatically receive a notification. This is a great “Showcase” tool that shows parents what their child is learning at Seal Elementary, says Mr. Ceynar. He is one of five Seal Elementary teachers on Team Tech. Team Tech consists of Brian Ceynar, Melinda Woody, Leslie Henderson, Danielle Dunagan, and Christina Dunham. They gave a Seesaw presentation to the elementary staff on February 2. Mr. Ceynar has been using Seesaw fluently in his classroom since January. His students enjoy adding items to their digital portfolio. He currently has two-thirds of his students’ parents connected using SeeSaw. SeeSaw can be used with Apple, Android, Google, and laptop devices.

MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWSSisk Middle School Bulldog Club
A new club has been formed for parents of middle school students and we invite you to join us!
The purpose of the club is to provide support to all Sisk Middle School students and staff in whatever capacity is practical, ethical, and within the capabilities of this organization; and to promote sportsmanship, show student recognition, and aide staff during the school year.
We had our inaugural meeting on November 30, 2017 with 16 people in attendance. We discussed what the goals of the club will be, the benefits to having a parent group at the middle school level, fundraising ideas, and officer elections were held. The officers are President-Cina Shirley, Vice-President-April Starr, Treasurer-Elisabeth Hiser, and Secretary-Shana Downer.
At the next meeting on January 18, 2018 an additional officer was elected, which was Member-at-Large-Kim Gash. The club’s by-laws and articles of incorporation were adopted at this meeting.
Because there are fees associated with becoming a 501(c)(3) organization the club has already worked two concession stands at high school basketball games and had a bake sale to raise the money to pay for these fees. Any additional money raised from these activities and from future fundraisers will be used to support the students and staff.
The club meets the second Sunday of every month, August through May, at 3:00PM in the high school/middle school library.
We would like to thank Mr. Dunham and Mr. Menard for being supportive of us forming this group.
Please join us at our next meeting! The students and staff need our support!
This year’s eighth grade scholars bowl team finished the year with 30 wins and 15 losses. Unfortunately for us, 3 of those losses came during the league tournament, keeping us from advancing to the finals.
Thank you to our scholars bowl parents and grandparents for supporting us and allowing us to work with your students. We competed well and these scholars will be a great addition to our high school team next year.

Scholars Bowl
Scholars Bowl season has just concluded. Our Team was led by our Captain Amy Black who scored 1330 pts for the year. Others on the team were Michael Bauer, Kassie Davis, Tyler Kiekel, Ella Livengood, Jordan Perkins, Jacob Scharff, Payton Schuler, and Payton Sholander. We saw some great competition and saw our share of victories with a win/loss record of 26/19. The team came up a little short during the league competition but overall they had a good season. Hopefully these 7th graders have learned a little about Scholars Bowl and will continue to compete next year as 8th graders.

HIGH SCHOOL NEWS
We are excited to announce that Jason Menard Douglass High school and Sisk Middle School Athletic/Activities Director has been selected as the Area 4 Athletic/Activities Director of the year in the state of Kansas. There are 353 high schools in Kansas, and only 4 AD's are recognized each year as AD of the Year award recipients. Jason was nominated by his peers and selected by a committee of former and current athletic directors in the state of Kansas and then receive the highest number of votes from the membership of KIAAA for our region. It speaks volumes that Jason's peers in the profession think so highly of him. We are extremely appreciative of Mr. Menard and the work he does for our district. He puts in countless hours for our kids and our schools, and he does so with the absolute highest level of character and integrity. Without a doubt, Mr. Menard is deserving of this recognition. Jason will receive his award at the Spring KIAAA Conference Awards Banquet on April 14th in Manhattan.

Job Shadow Program Kicks Off in April for DHS Juniors
Once again this spring, the DHS juniors will be participating in job shadowing activities. By now many of you probably know that job shadowing is a component for the senior project/graduation requirement. The official day for this activity is Friday, April 6 which will coincide with career activities for other classes at DHS. Juniors will choose a job/career in order to observe an adult at work for a period of four to six hours. The activity is coordinated through English III classes.
This spring marks the fifteenth year for this activity. Most students are able to arrange their own business contacts. However, a few juniors may need help finding placements. You may have a junior student contact you in the near future.
The job shadow event has proven to be highly successful and of great benefit to most students. In fact, many schools in Kansas have begun encouraging students to participate in this kind of activity at least one time. In previous years our juniors were given the chance to experience careers ranging from construction contractors to physicians.
The school is grateful for those of you who are able to help the students by giving them opportunities to become more familiar with the job market. With your continued support and assistance, the project promises to have another successful year.
Drivers EDSign up for drivers education will be from March 12th to the 18th. Students must sign up during that timeframe. The sign up sheet will be in the office. After March 18th no one will be able to sign up. The class will begin May 29th and go until June 14th. There will be no classes on Wednesdays. If you turn 14 on or before May 29th you will be eligible to take drivers ed. The cost for drivers ed is $200.00 for students attending Douglass and $300.00 for students not attending Douglass. A letter will be sent to parents of students that have signed up on a later date.
After-Prom Party!
Prom will soon be here and the Douglass High SADD Club is working hard to plan another great After-Prom Party! Since Prom will be held in Andover at The Ville, we have reserved the Andover YMCA for the night. With no cover charge, Douglass High students and prom dates will be able to go swimming, play in the gyms, or even go rock-wall climbing! SADD will also provide refreshments and prizes throughout the night.
But to make all of this happen, we need your help! We are working to raise $1500 to cover the cost of the facility, gift cards, and refreshments. We would also like to have merchandise and gift cards from local business to use as raffle items for the students at the party.
Since our organization relies on the generosity of individuals like you, we ask you to consider a donation to help further our efforts. After-Prom provides a safe and alcohol-free entertainment for our teens and we want to provide them with a night to remember!
