The AlgarvePicture cliffs soaring over Blue Flag beaches, quaint
villages of white-washed houses, some of the world’s
best golf courses and plenty of scope for tennis and
watersports. The Algarve is simultaneously vibrant
and traditional, brimming with authentic restaurants
serving only the freshest seafood and Piri Piri dishes,
pretty town squares buzzing with live music and
dancing, and rustic Moorish architecture waiting to be
explored.
Team all of this with year-round sunshine, summer
temperatures averaging 25°C and a short flight time
(just three hours) from the UK, and it’s clear why the
southern coast of Portugal is so popular. Whether it’s
the ancient fortress of Sagres or the fascinating Benagil
sea caves, dolphin-watching boat trips or taking the
kids to waterparks, the Algarve is an intoxicating
destination. We visited Lagos in June 2017. The Old Town is surrounded by 16th-century walls with beautiful cobbled streets and a stunning town square. There’s loads of restaurants to choose from and the Praça Gil Eanes has entertainment and music most evenings, which was perfect for us and the children after dinner.

The Balearics are the epitome of laidback chic. This sun-kissed archipelago
in the Mediterranean breathes exquisite yet understated beauty. Stroll
around peaceful whitewashed villages on a walking tour, dip your toes
in the sparkling seas while you unwind on a jetty in one of the many
charming ports, and drink in the rustic charm of the historic villages.
Ibiza and Majorca lend their visitors the perfect mix of relaxation and fun.
These unique, bohemian destinations are not just home to some of the
most stylish hotels in the Mediterranean, they boast some of the most
incredible scenery too, with fragrant pine forests, striking cliffs and cobalt
seas. Lose yourself in the unhurried way of life that the Balearics is famed
for and savour its mesmerising and diverse aura.
Don’t miss...• Sampling the traditional Balearic dish of Caldereta de
Llagosta – a mouthwatering lobster stew served with thin toast.
• Benirras Beach on Ibiza’s north coast – on Sundays drummers descend on to the sands to drum down the sunset.
Every time I head back to the white isle I fall even more in love. Ibiza isn’t just a party island, there’s so much to discover and some of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever visited. My personal favourite is Cala de Sant Vicent just 10 minutes’ drive from San Juan. It’s lined by beautiful pine trees and there’s a lookout view from the top of the cliff too. I’d also really recommend taking a boat trip over to Formentera one evening for the sunset – it’s just magical.

Make sure you also visit The House of Dionysos - deservedly a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The ancient capital of Paphos has so much to showcase in quite a small area. the entrance fee is very modest, so it is worth going to see the mosaics.

Barbados is our favourite holiday. We love that in bars, restaurants and beaches, tourists and locals mix together, and people are so friendly wherever you go! I’d definitely recommend doing a tour of the island to see all the coastlines, and a trip to the Mount Gay rum distillery is a must!
