  • Message from the Principal

College Education is the foundation for all future possibilities in

the life of a student. It is from here that one chooses the future

line of studies and subsequently one’s career.

I am sure that alumni association through E-PALAM will provide

a mechanism for keeping in touch with each other, making new

contacts and friends both at personal and business level. In

addition it will keep them in-formed about the progress and

development of their alma mater. I congratulate the editorial team

for this beginning and looking forward to reading the magazine.

    I wish you all success...

  • Connecting Alumni

    About Us:

Pandian Saraswathi Yadav Engineering College was started in

the year 2000 by the successful NRI entrepreneur 'Hind Rattan'

Malaysia S. Pandian, the Chairman, PSYEC with a vision to educate

more rural students in the field of Engineering and Technology.

The College is approved by AICTE (All India Council for

Technical Education), New Delhi and affiliated to Anna University.

The first batch of the college consisting of 184 students passed out in

April/ May 2004 with affiliation of Madurai Kamaraj University. The

second batch of students consisting of 109 passed out in April/May

2005 with affiliation of Anna University, Chennai. Our institution is an

    ISO certified Institution.

PSYEC is proud of its alumni. As of now there are more than

3000 alumni of our college around the world, distinguishing

themselves in different endeavors. The Institute welcomes its alumni to

continue an endearing relationship with its alma mater.

The main objective of the PSYEC Alumni Association is to

encourage the Alumni to take an active and abiding interest in the

work and progress of the Institute so as to contribute towards

enhancement of the social utility of their Alma Mater.

  • PSYECAA – VISION:

“To connect PSYECions to PSYEC and to each

    other”

    PSYECAA – MISSION

The PSYEC Alumni Association aspires to

be a primary linkage between the PSYEC and its

family of alumni across the globe, to commit them

to the missions of life-long learning, discovery and

engagement, and to promote a spirit of unity and

loyalty among former students and friends.

    About PSYECAA E-Magazine

The name E-PALAM has been chosen for our

    alumni e magazine.

    Palam – A Bridge... why?

A Bridge shows the crossing of two

cultures. We wanted a medium that would connect

the present day students to the students of the past

(alumni). And also, we wanted to felicitate our

mother tongue and include it in our magazine.

Hence the name suggested by some of our alumni

    members has been confirmed

  • II. INTERVIEW WITH AN ALUMNI

    An interview with

    Mr. Prabu Shankar (Batch-2000-2004, ECE)

He has received the “Best Out-Going Student”

Award in 2004 for the first batch. Now he is

working as Legacy Modernization Architect in

    CTS, USA.

    Your popular name:

Most of my friends call me Prabu and very few call me as Shankar. Have got a

couple of pet names as well within family and friends.

Tell us about your journey after passing out of PSYEC.

Searching jobs via Off-campus was both interesting and challenging. I have

attended interviews across marketing, BPO, IT and Banking sectors. Had a short career

with ABN AMRO Bank and then moved to Cognizant and it has been more than 10 years

now since I joined Cognizant. Now I serve as a Legacy modernization Architect and help

the clients to re-write the software applications from older technology platform to recent

platforms. For the past 3 years have been actively following stock markets. I am also

doing some research on agri based solutions.

How was the environment like at PSYEC during your times?

Being the first batch to join the college we were privileged to get the special care

from the management!! I could recall the classrooms and labs set well enough before us

joining the college. It was really commendable and provided a satisfaction that we are

    indeed in good hands.

Any interesting memories of your batch/batch mates?

My batch mates still continue to be my best buddies in life even after 10 years.

  • What changes have you observed in the college?

During the past 10 years close to five years I have spent my

time outside India. I always wanted to visit the college but

couldn’t and I really feel I got to visit our college in near future.

But based on the activities I see online it has been really nice to

see our college making strides in the right direction

What do you like most about PSYEC?

    The management and staff

What are your reflections about the alumni meet? How can

    we increase student alumni interaction?

Most of our fellow mates work in cities where there is a

heavy IT presence like Chennai, Bangalore or Hyderabad. How

about setting up some alumni meets in these places? We can also

plan to invite the alumni to discuss with our college students

during their industrial visits close to these places. Also the recent

trending online buzz is with Whatsapp.

Any other suggestions or comments about PSYEC Alumni

    Association.

There should be a dedicated plan on how the college plans

to use the knowledge base of the alumni. An easier way is to put

down the list of strengths and weaknesses that should be

addressed and find an appropriate alumni who can be the right fit.

An Efficient Framework for Data As A Service (DAAS) in

    Hadoop EcoSystem

    Big Data Analytics:

•A process of examining large data sets containing several data

types to uncover hidden patterns, unknown correlations and other useful

    business insights

•The sources for the large data sets include server logs, social

media, mobile devices and sensors. These data’s are of unstructured and

    semi-structured type.

•The traditional databases and Relational databases will not fit

these unstructured and semi-structured data obtained from data sources

•This makes a necessity for the move to the new technology of

    Hadoop.

    Hadoop EcoSystem :

Hadoop is a framework that supports the processing of huge

and diverse data sets across clustered systems

•Hadoop does with support of related tools like YARN,

    MapReduce, Hive…

•This serves as a central repository for all incoming streams of

    raw data.

  • Inferences Identified:

Heterogenous data’s are not handled in BDaaS, thus security is not

    considered in BigData Analysis

Needs to ensure security for the data sources by which efficient data

can be considered for business insights

    Data as a service (DaaS)

    • Data as a service (DaaS) is the delivery of statistical analysis tools

or information obtained from large information sets in order to gain

a competitive advantage for an organization.

    • This is done over the immense volume of unstructured data that was

    updated in the regular basis

    HOW IT WORKS:

The data’s obtained using web crawlers are sent into

framework of Hadoop for the following processing

    * Data Storage

    * Data Processing

    * Data Management

  • Telecom services have been acknowledged globally as an essential tool for

socio-economic development of a nation. In our country BSNL is one of the largest &

leading public sector units providing comprehensive range of telecom services such as

Landline & Broadband, CDMA and Mobile services, FTTH, Wi-Max, ISDN, MPLS

VPN and VSAT etc. Let us see about some of the recent technologies and services in

    BSNL.

Nowadays all are using 3G services. What is meant by 3G? 3G is a short form of

third generation of mobile technology based on set of standard used for mobile devices

that comply with International Mobile Telecommunications-2000 (IMT-2000). 3G finds

its applications in wireless voice, telephony, internet, video calling and mobile TV.

Fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) is a unique technology service provided by BSNL

which is having unlimited Bandwidth & it can deliver high speeds up to 100 Mbps,

Internet Protocol Television and a range of telephony services.

BSNL is implementing Next Generation Networks in its fixed line telephony for

the upgrading the TDM technology. A Next Generation Networks (NGN) is a packet-

based network able to provide Telecommunication Services to users and able to make

use of multiple broadband, Quality of Service-enabled transport technologies and in

which service-related functions are independent of the underlying transport-related

technologies. It helps customers to make video calls also.

VSAT is a very small aperture terminal aligned towards a designated Satellite for

up-linking and down-linking communication signals. VSAT connectivity is made

possible even at those locations, which cannot be connected through conventional

media like copper cable, optical fiber, radio, microwave and any other wire-line /

    wireless links.

  • (iv) Career Guidance

    Industry Expectation & Career Development:

    What is career?

Before moving to career development, first let's understand what career is ?

I'm working with a multinational company, is that a career, if you ask me then my answer is

    NO.

I'm earning in dollars is that a career, if you ask me then my answer is NO.

    Then what is career?

Any occupation or a job undertaken by an individual which has opportunities for growth in

his professional life could be called as “Career”.

We leave the decision of making our career with our friends / relatives / parents /

college management , who in most of the cases don not knoow what your intrests are. We

need to start thinking about our career atleast in the 1st year of college by ourselves. Please

don't put the blame on others, if and when your career doesn't take off well.

Before moving into career development let's understand the industry expectation.

Industry Expectation: In earlier days the number of graduates who passes out from colleges were very less and the

employers were ready to pick up good raw talents, but now the scnario has changed.

Employers are looking at something different form each and every candidate they meet, it is

high time to build the bridge between college and corporate. As a job hunter, how are you

going to impress your interviewer is something which you need to think about. Employers /

Companies don't care where you come from...whether you did your education through

English or Tamil medium of instruction OR whether you are from an urban or rural area. All

you need to do is full fill the expectation of employers and get the job. Because, there are

1000's of other candidates with better skills are available for each employer. Some tips are

    given below.

1.Acquire practical knowledge in your stream via summer internship, project work etc.

2.Participate in group poject to prove yourself as a team player and present papers in

symphosium's conducted by other colleges / universities.

3.Take effective steps to improve your communication.

    4.Try to do cetrification courses

    Industry Expectation & Career Development

    Mr.A.R.Jegan (2001-2005 – IT)

  • Never bend your head. Always hold it high. Look the world straight in the face. – Helen Keller

Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. – Ralph Waldo

    Emerson

    Goal Setting:

Assessing goal, is a key important thing which should be done by an individual.

Personal goals play a critical role in healthy human functioning. Effective goal-setting is important in career

    decision-making.

Identify your interests / career goal by putting every point which comes to your mind on a paper. Think

about the feasibility of each of the options / intrest areas, choose top 3 interest areas and decide one of those

3, as you move towards starting your career.

Great works are performed, not by strength, but by perseverance – William Arthur Ward.

    Career Opportunity:

Career opportunities lie plenty when it comes to Engineers, but choosing the right path and establishing

oneself as a pioneer in the field might take time and expertise. Career guidance for engineering students is

a must so that graduates can discover their strengths and weaknesses to choose a profession that is lucrative

    and fulfilling.

If opportunity doesn't knock, build a door – Milton Berle

Entrepreneurship is an exciting option available for all of us, find out when you analyze your interests. If

enterpreneurship is your vision go ahead and start your own enterprise / organization.

    Campus Recruitment-How to Prepare:

Companies visit colleges and universities to add more people to their existing pool of experts. To gain a

good position via campus placements, students should aim for posts that are related to their streams or

discipline. Apart from technical knowledge, recruiters will look for well-rounded personalities; therefore it is

important to appear competent. Dress code, etiquette, body language are all factors that contribute to

employment. Give a projection that you are keen in looking at this opportunity by knowing something about

the position for which you are going to take up interview and know abo the company as well. Confidence

with which you speak will land you into your dream jobs. Preparation is a must to accomplish this. Mock

interviews, an impressive resume and contacting seniors and alumni to get their suggestion would help

excel in campus placements. Not but not the least presence of mind and your technical expertise.

A quitter never wins and a winner never quits. – Napoleon Hill

I wish all the PSYEC students and the management a successful and colorful career in all their future

    endeavour.

    Engineer, Denmark

Founder and President of “INDIANS in

    DENMARK” Association.

“Leaders become great, not because of their power, but because

of their ability to empower others”

I would like to introduce myself as P.Kannathasan, a proud alumni

of PSYEC. I completed my B.E degree in ECE from our college in the

year 2004, the very first batch to come out of PSYEC. In pursuit of job

opportunities, I went to Chennai and my career started as a testing

engineer. Then i got opportunity to associate myself with NOKIA in 2008.

And eventually, it lead to me to Denmark, a beautiful European country.

Even then, with a typical South Indian mentality, i had difficulties in

    accommodating myself with their culture.

It was the exact point where the idea for forming an association for

Indians in Denmark arose in me and today I am the founder and president

for the organisation "Indians in Denmark" which is mainly concerned

about networking and social services among the Indian fraternity in this

country. We celebrate all the Indian festivals together to develop a

oneness and rapport among the Indian contingent living here. Recently i

have started a south Indian restaurant here, which is a huge success

among both the Indian and Foreign people in Denmark. I am privileged to

credit a part of my success to my institution that has molded me into what

    i am today. Thank you.
