Commandant Steve Schwartz As usual we have a busy holiday season ahead of us. Greetings to all Detachment members, Associates, FMF Corpsmen and Chaplains. At our last meeting we had 42 attendees and I appreciate you attending. Just a few reminders of what is upcoming the next couple of months. The Veteran's Day Parade takes place on Saturday, November 2 in downtown Colorado Springs. Our Jr. Vice has sent out staging and time information. Don't forget the Marine Corps Ball on November 8 at the Marriott Hotel. Be sure to buy your tickets soon and help us celebrate the 244th birthday of our Corps. IMPORTANT!! Don't forget our meeting on November 16 when we will take nominations, hold elections and conduct the installation of officers for 2020. Also, be sure to bring a toy for Toys 4 Tots and the Detachment will buy your breakfast!! Speaking of Toys 4 Tots, anything you can do to help this annual endeavor would be appreciated. Just contact Russ. Let's not forget Thanksgiving when we will gather with our families and friends and "Turkey Out"! Jumping ahead just slightly to December, same thing: free breakfast for all at our meeting! I have contacted the Military Affairs writer for the Gazette Telegraph and have offered to do a write up about our League. Hopefully, he will get back in touch for an interview or write up so we can brag a little. Hope to see everyone at the Parade, Ball and Meeting. Don't forget, recruiting new members is always the Order of the Day. Semper Fi, Steve

Senior Vice Commandant Terry Crum Greetings motivated Marines, dedicated FMF Corpsmen, and outstanding associate members. Snow is in the forecast and hopefully everyone has drained their lawn sprinkler systems and done all the other tasks needed for the winter season. The last two months of the year will be busy for the Detachment, hopefully you will be able to be part of it. Please look over this newsletter, you will find many opportunities to get involved. With a bit of prayerful consideration you might find a good fit for yourself. Please keep the sick and in distress members in your thoughts and prayers. Doc Frank Evans is recovering from leg surgery and Marine Pat Thompson is recovering from surgery to her face and is in ICU. This will hopefully last only a short period of time and she will be transferred to a more relaxed setting. Pat is in good spirits and enjoys the company of visitors. Chaplain Vince Espinoza still is in a battle for his health. He is a fighter and carrying on with business as if nothing was the matter. He still needs your prayers as he battles cancer. Recently we also bid a sad farewell to Marine Iris Rudesill. A longtime member of the Det. she will be sorely missed. The Pikes Peak region also lost Korean War veteran Marine Leonard Stawasz. Both of these Marines are most likely checking into heaven, drawing 782 “Deuce” gear and checking the watch roster for duty guarding the streets of heaven. Semper Fi Marines. We will join you when we receive our final PCS orders. In closing your patronage is what makes all of this possible. Hope to see you all at the next Detachment meeting. Bring a toy and breakfast is on the house. One shot, one kill. Ooh Rah Terry

Luncheon for WWII, Korean War, and Vietnam War Veterans

This event is intended for the veterans of WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. All red blooded Americans are welcome to show support for our countries senior warriors. A guest speaker is often present to inspire and inform. The patriotism is genuine, the company is friendly, and the food is great. The next luncheon is 12 Nov.

Obituary for Marine Leonard Stawasz November 25, 1931 - October 17, 2019

Leonard Stawasz received his angel wings and joined our loved ones in Heaven on October 17, 2019 at Memorial Hospital. He passed unexpectedly. With him was his wife, Jody Stawasz, who never left his side. Len was born on November 25, 1931 in Omaha, Nebraska. He served our country in the United States Marine Corps, then fought in the Korean War and was the only man left in his Platoon to return home. Len went to college and established a career in Real Estate and Mortgage loans. In 2010, Len retired in Colorado with his wife Jody. He was very blessed to be able to fly fish with Healing Waters and hunt with Wounded Warriors. He is preceded in death by Jamie LeCroy, Tom LeCroy, and Ryan Kennedy. He leaves as his legacy, his wife of twenty-eight years, Jody Stawasz; sister, Judi Wilson; his children and many grandchildren. As a husband, Len shared his heart with his wife, Jody. As a father, he shared his devotion and strength with his children through his faith and being a great provider. As a grandfather, he showed his unconditional love, open arms for hugs, wonderful stories, and was the best listener you could ask for. To everyone, he shared his belief in our Lord, and the best smile ever! Len is now with his creator and has now been reunited with all our loved ones. He will remain in our hearts until we meet again. We love you to the MOON! "SEE YOU IN THE MORNING"
