5-SURE Safe Rides ProgramThe 5-SURE Safe Rides program maintained a fleet of 5 vehicles and saw a plateau of ridership numbers given our current resources and capacity, but four-year growth rates are encouraging. We continued to offer safe rides 7 nights a week, 9pm-2am. Ninety-five percent of passengers are female and ridership continued to be heaviest Wednesday to Saturday nights.

5-SURE on Foot Bystander Intervention Program

The 5-SURE on Foot Bystander Intervention program offered safe walks, snacks and water in high-traffic party areas every weekend during the academic year. Program evaluation results show strong support and positive community impacts related to safety, trust and student well-being. Utilization numbers remained relatively consistent from last year due to our current resources and capacity. Nevertheless, the impact of the program has greatly expanded and it is highly popular and deeply impactful among the student body as seen in the four-year growth rate.

OAPE Education & Outreach ProgramsThe education and outreach services provided by the Office of Alcohol Policy & Education continue to be widespread and extensive, targeting a broad range of individual students and student groups (Greeks, student-athletes, first-year students, graduate students, Stanford Band, resident assistants, LGBTQ community, underrepresented minority communities and first generation & low-income students, etc.).

Highlights from this past year included:

• Fifty-one in-person group educational sessions/workshops in which over 1700 students were educated and trained on alcohol and drug issues.

• Worked closely with various community centers to reach various identity and affinity groups. One example of this in the past year was a partnership developed with the Weiland Health Initiative to offer substance abuse prevention resources to students who identify as LGBTQ.

• Co-hosted a large-scale anti-hazing workshop for over 1000 student-athletes and Greek students.

• Met individually with 226 students for alcohol and drug educational sessions conducted by OAPE staff.

Peer Health Educator Outreach InitiativeOAPE funded and trained 27 student Peer Health Educators (PHEs) to lead dorm-based alcohol education workshops in 24 residences held over the course of two-weeks in the fall quarter. These peer-led workshops were well received and directly educated approximately 700 undergraduate students.

Results from the program evaluation were promising: • 96% of attendees rated the workshops as excellent/good.• 91% of attendees reported that they feel comfortable socializing without

alcohol.• 97% of attendees reported that they feel prepared to intervene if they see

someone drinking too much alcohol.• 96% of attendees reported that they know when to call 911 for an

alcohol-related emergency.

Cardinal Nights expanded its student staff for the third straight year and increased capacity for popular programs. At least three Cardinal Nights events are offered every weekend all academic year and over 23% of Cardinal Nights attendees are graduate students (including families), coming in just second to first-year students at 27% participation. Highlights from this past year included:

• Orchestrated 6 private movie screenings in Redwood City to new blockbuster films including Avengers End Game, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2, Captain Marvel, and Disney’s Live Action Aladdin that totaled over 3,000 students in attendance.

• Worked with Stanford Live and Stanford Concert Network to conceive and help fund the Frost Music and Arts Festival concert in the newly renovated Frost Amphitheater.

• Partnered with Stanford Blackfest, El Centro Chicano y Latino, Stanford Pow Wow, and the Markaz Resource Center to enhance multi-cultural programming to the student community through our mini-grant funding program.

• Distributed over 600 free financial assistance tickets this year to predominantly low-income students totaling over $11,000.00 - a jump from the previous year where 380 tickets and just over $7,000 total were allocated.
