2 FWADA SPRING GALLERY NIGHT 2019

FWADA is a unique arts organization in a unique American place. Few cities of Fort Worth’s size are privileged to com-mand such a wealth of major art museums, and fewer still have such a vital community spirit. What truly sets Fort Worth apart, however, is the vigorous, longstanding, clearly defined coop-eration between the museums, the university art galleries, the non-profit exhibition spaces, and the art dealers, all of which are full working members of FWADA. To fulfill its stated mission to stimulate interest in the visual arts through educational pro-grams, art scholarships, and art competitions, FWADA orga-nizes, funds, and hosts exhibitions of noteworthy art. It spon-sors the Fall Gallery Night for members and friends, as well as Spring Gallery Night. All these attainments have created a stable environment that produces a steady stream of top-notch talent, including major local artists who exhibit their work nationally and internation-ally. Newcomers are frequently dazzled by the quality of work being created in every medium and style. Their passion rein-vigorates Fort Worth patrons who have become habituated to the riches that surround them, reminding them anew that the most authentic cultural connection they can make is the one that affords direct communication with the artists who interpret and illuminate the life experience they share through common background and interests. Although the city is justly recognized for its cosmopolitan worldview, it is the local artists and their devoted collectors who are the lifeblood of the Fort Worth art market. The members of the Fort Worth Art Dealers Association are pledged to the maintenance of a high standard of ethical con-duct and professional integrity, these businesses furnish a model that gallery associations in other cities might do well to emulate. FWADA is to be commended for its important role as a contributor to the cultural and esthetic richness of Fort Worth. – Suzanne Deats

From Remington to O’Keeffe: The Carter’s Greatest HitsThrough June 2, 2019

Since its opening in January 1961, the Amon Carter Museum of American Art has acquired one of the world’s finest collections of American paint-ings, photographs, sculpture, and works on paper. Key selections from the collec-tion—from epic landscape and western paintings, elegant still lifes, and singular representations of war and exploration, to unparalleled modernist sculptures and abstractions—are featured in an exciting presentation that reveals the singularity of the Amon Carter collection.

Fort Works Art is pleased to present No Filter, an exhibition featuring the work of artists Kyle Steed and Lisa Krannichfeld. The show will explore issues relating to their upbring-ing in the American south, religion, culture, and gender expectations through stunning mixed media paintings and illustrations. The multifaceted nuances of the theme will be further highlighted in the contrast between their individual styles and subjects. Steed, a Dallas- based abstract painter and illustrator, explores the constant state of change we all experience over the course of our life and his practice in learning to let go of the need to control it. With his stark black line work and vibrant use of abrupt colorful paint strokes, Steed compels you to embrace imperfect moments and mistakes that often lead to a new understanding. Off-setting these works will be the vibrant and pattern-rich figurative works of Arkansas based painter and mixed media artist Lisa Krannichfeld. Her expres-sive portraits refute the traditional portrayal of women being passive subjects to gaze upon, evident in their confrontational, and at times defiant expressions.

Two Friends... Two Views

A joint exhibition by Suzan Cook and Caro Jackson:These two talented artists have a friendship that spans decades and a bond over creat-ing beautiful artwork, though their styles diverge, their works pair strikingly well. Caro has developed a whimsical impressionistic style full of motion and color, concentrating on landscapes in oil, especially those of West Texas, and the mountains. Suzan is an abstract conceptual artist. Her focus in painting has continued to translate concepts that reflect life, creating a visual language through the use of color, form, and texture. Oil on canvas is her medium. Come see the world through the artists’ eyes and be inspired with us on Gallery Night.

Christian Hootsells believes that art at its best is a dialogue between the artist and the viewer. The artist is allowed by the viewer to express his understanding of a given subject, but the artist must in return provide the viewer with work that appeals, interests, and asks the viewer to step into his world. One will see Christian’s work certainly embraces his beliefs.

One will, also, see new works by Rebecca Low, Terry Jones, David Mikitka, Ralph Moresco, Ken O’Toole, Dolly Valdez, Evelyn Denton and jewelry by Dale Ousley and Juliette Edgerton

another FrontIer: FrederIc reMInGton’S eaStFrederic Remington’s art has so profoundly shaped our perceptions of the Old West that we only vaguely, if at all, recall that he was an Easterner born and bred. He grew up in Canton and Ogdensburg, New York—the North Country, the forested region stretching from the Adirondack Mountains across the St. Lawrence River into Canada. The artwork on view, on loan from the Frederic Remington Art Museum in Ogdensburg, New York, shifts the focus from Remington’s popular Western imagery to his less familiar Eastern subjects, inviting visitors to expand their knowledge of the iconic artist.

SiNaCa Studios is hosting local artist, Jack Russell, for Spring Gallery night and will present collaborative demonstrations between Jack and the SiNaCa team from 5pm until 9pm in the glassblowing studio. Jack is a local Texas artist who primarily enjoys working with linoleum-cut block printing process for its simplicity and reproducibility. His subject matter involves pop-culture, historical references, and current local happenings, most often twisted with his personal brand of humor. He studied printmaking at Tarrant County College in 2006 and now lives in North Richland Hills with his wife and two wonderful children. When not being engaged with his printmaking process, he can often be found playing music in the local scene or taking pictures of his pet chickens! Join us for an innovative and unique collaborative exploration as we work together to realize Jack’s concepts in glass.

Additional guest artists contributing to the gallery collection have included Gil Bruvel, Leslie Jandrain, and Melissa Ellis.

The story behind BLK EYE Vodka started with a bold idea. From that, we created something entirely unique. With 100% Texas roots from farm to bottle, BLK EYE is the first vodka crafted by hand from black-eyed peas. Every bottle doubles as a showcase for an original Texas artist, and $1 from every bottle purchased goes back into supporting the local arts community. We set out to take the fine art of distilling in an all-new direction and the result is a smooth-tasting stroke of genius. At BlackEyed Distilling Co., we just believe an ultra-premium experience should be evident from the first sip. 2017 Global Spirit Awards Double Gold Medal and Best Traditional Vodka Winner.
